The resort is self-contained so once you enter you have all you need within the premises. The Chocolate Museum is a one of a kind, producing World Renowned Chocolate, in front of your eyes. Many activities for children. Bird shows, games, swimming pool, arts and crafts. The food is very good and high quality served in ample proportions or buffet style at times

I definitely wish I stayed longer than two nights! We booked the honeymoon suite and it was just a dream! During the few days we were there, we enjoyed the educational bird and falcon shows, The staff are extremely friendly, responsive, and truly wonderful people. The activities around the park are lots of fun! We woke up, fed goats, hung out with birds, and enjoyed the butterflies - all before lunch! The chocolate museum is a MUST see too! Lots to do for all ages to enjoy. The attention to detail and conservation focus was the highlight of our stay. I'd absolutely recommend Malagos Garden Resort to all our friends and family!

Your Travel Guide to Davao City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Davao City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipino travelers, flying is the most practical way to reach Davao City from Manila and other major hubs like Cebu or Iloilo. Major airlines operate frequent flights to Davao International Airport (DVO). From Manila, flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours. Fares can vary significantly based on the season and how far in advance you book, but budget-friendly options can often be found if you plan ahead. It’s always a good idea to book flight tickets early.

While less common for long distances, bus travel is an option for those coming from nearby Mindanao cities or for travelers who prefer a more overland journey. The bus terminals in Davao City connect to various points in Mindanao. This mode of transport is considerably longer, often taking many hours, but can be a more economical choice for some. Driving your own vehicle is also possible, with major highways connecting Davao to other parts of Mindanao, though this requires significant travel time and planning.

When considering your travel options, weigh the cost against the time spent. For most visitors coming from Luzon or Visayas, flying remains the most efficient method to maximize your time exploring Davao City and its surroundings. Look for deals and promotions on flight booking platforms to make your trip more affordable.

Best Time to Visit Davao City

Davao City enjoys a tropical climate, meaning it’s generally warm and humid throughout the year. The city does not experience a distinct dry or wet season in the same way as some other parts of the Philippines, but there are periods that are generally considered more favorable for travel. The months from March to May often bring the hottest temperatures, while the period from June to October can see more rainfall, though usually in the form of short, intense showers rather than prolonged downpours.

For travelers who prefer slightly cooler weather and less humidity, the months of November to February are often recommended. This period typically sees more moderate temperatures and a lower chance of heavy rain, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions. However, it's important to remember that Davao City is a year-round destination, and even during the rainier months, the sun often shines brightly between showers.

Peak tourist seasons often coincide with major holidays like Christmas and Holy Week, as well as local festivals such as the Kadayawan Festival in August. During these times, expect higher hotel rates and larger crowds. For those seeking a more relaxed and budget-friendly trip, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons or off-peak months. Regardless of when you visit, always pack light clothing, sunscreen, and an umbrella.

Food and Dining Near Davao City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Davao City is a culinary delight, offering a range of flavors that reflect its rich cultural influences. One dish you absolutely must try is the **Kinilaw**. This is the Filipino version of ceviche, where fresh raw fish (often tuna or tanigue) is "cooked" in vinegar, typically spiced with ginger, onions, chili, and calamansi. It’s a refreshing appetizer, perfect for Davao’s tropical climate. You can find excellent kinilaw in many local eateries and seafood restaurants.

Another local specialty is **Durian**, Davao's "King of Fruits." While its strong aroma can be polarizing, its creamy, custard-like flesh has a unique sweet and savory taste that many find addictive. If you're adventurous, try it fresh during its season (typically August to October). Many stalls sell durian around the city, and you can also find durian-flavored candies, pastries, and ice cream.

For a taste of hearty Mindanao cuisine, look for **Satti**. This is a type of skewered meat (usually chicken or beef) marinated in a special sauce and grilled, served with a flavorful, slightly sweet, and spicy sauce, often accompanied by rice or *puso* (hanging rice). It’s a popular breakfast or snack item, with many local vendors specializing in this dish.

Don't leave Davao without trying **Sinuglaw**, a delicious combination of *sinigang* (sour soup) and *kinilaw*. It typically features grilled pork belly and fresh fish, mixed with vinegar, spices, and vegetables. The interplay of smoky, sour, and fresh flavors makes it a truly satisfying dish. Many restaurants in Davao offer their own take on this popular local fusion.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Davao City

Davao City is known for its generally peaceful environment and friendly locals. The culture is a blend of indigenous traditions and modern influences. When interacting with people, politeness and respect are always appreciated. While English and Tagalog are widely understood, learning a few basic phrases in Bisaya (like "Salamat" for thank you) can be a nice gesture.

Safety is a priority in Davao City, and it is considered one of the safest major cities in the Philippines. However, it's always wise to exercise standard precautions: be aware of your surroundings, avoid displaying expensive items openly, and keep your valuables secure. Stick to well-lit and populated areas, especially at night. In case of emergencies, local authorities can be reached through standard emergency numbers.

For travelers, having a few essential apps on your smartphone can greatly enhance your trip. Ride-sharing apps like Grab are widely available and provide a convenient way to get around the city. Navigation apps such as Google Maps are indispensable for finding your way. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are commonly used. Consider downloading offline maps of Davao City before you arrive, especially if you plan to explore areas with spotty internet.

Familiarizing yourself with local customs and being mindful of your surroundings will ensure a pleasant and secure visit to Davao City. The city's welcoming atmosphere, combined with these practical tips, will help you make the most of your travel experience.

Property includes all that you need for your stay. The staff is very nice and helpful, too. Grounds are well taken care of, but the roads are a bit bumpy. Rooms could be better. Largest bed is a double bed only. A disappointment. A queen size bed would have been much better. We stayed in Palmera Villa. Room condition was very clean. However some of the cabinets and furniture need repairs as cabinet doors don't shut. Very nice large bay windows in the rooms. I guess they only have twin size flat sheets because we didn't get one on the double bed. Only 1 true restaurant unless there is an event of some kind which is Koi Cafe. Breakfast ok, but food items were too focused on the sweet side, but they had eggs made to order, steamed rice, and garlic rice. We only ate breakfast and dinners at Koi Cafe. We did not have lunches, but we could have at either the Koi cafe or the Viewdeck cafe next to the pool. For dinners, we had Sizzling pucit (squid), Teryaki chicken, pizza, fried chicken (wings only), and Alfredo pasta and some deserts. Squid was good, Teriyaki chicken was good, Pizzas were good, but they needed to be cooked longer as the bottoms were not browned, breading on fried chicken had no seasoning at all, Alfredo pasta was spaghetti with parmasan cheese sprinkled on it - virtually no sauce, if any. Price a bit steap. Kids enjoyed chocolate making, feeding birds, and bird shows. They have been protecting the birds and environment for 20+ years.

It's a wonderful environment. I love nature so I loved staying here. Actually, our room had problems with water supply and showers. However, the staffs tried their best to improve. Despite heavy rain. Although there were a few issues, the service provided was more than adequate. Breakfast was very delicious. The front staff was really nice to me. I will definitely stay again someday.

Big territory, well maintained overall, nice birds and plants. Very good massage with natural oils. Buffet breakfast is nothing special, just acceptable.

Serene and beautiful place. We stayed for two nights. And we loved the experience to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The staff are courteous and attentive. The amenities are functional.

Like most: the privacy and serenity offered by the place as well as the pleasant staff. The bird show is fantastic - a great reminder to take care of nature.

Playground were not safe and not maintained properly. So disappointed for I was looking forward for my children to be able to run and play around. One big reason I booked malagos garden resort is the nice playground as shown in the AD photos. Although the chicolate museum was good. Swimming pool not maintained well.

Chocolate spa 👍. The villa needs one phone in the communal area I had no load or service on 3 of the phones we had, we had to ask one of the sweeping staff to call the front desk to send the shuttle service over all it was awesome
