Stayed at Mango's for 3 nights and enjoyed every minute there. This is my second stay at the resort and I can safely say I'll be back again. The staff are all amazing, super friendly and helpful. The restaurant on site is outstanding with food and drinks available 24/7. Room was spacious and comfortable and had everything I needed. Wifi on site is great and shops within walking distance. Highly recommended!

The staff were lovely, accommodations were all in good condition. The shower was a little lack luster. I really appreciated having a diverse mini bar with reasonable prices. Will definitely stay there again.

Major bus terminals in Metro Manila, such as those in Cubao, Pasay, and Buendia, offer frequent trips to Olongapo City. Companies like Victory Liner and Genesis Transport operate these routes. The journey typically takes between 3 to 4 hours, depending on traffic conditions, especially when exiting Metro Manila.

Bus fares usually range from approximately PHP 400 to PHP 600 for a one-way ticket. Upon arrival at the Olongapo bus terminal, you can easily catch a local jeepney or a taxi to reach Barrio Barretto and Mango's Beachfront Resort, which is a short ride away.

If you prefer to fly, the nearest major airport is Clark International Airport (CRK) in Pampanga, which is about a 1.5 to 2-hour drive from Olongapo, Subic. From Clark, you can arrange for a private van transfer or take a bus that connects to Olongapo. Alternatively, you can book flight to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila, and then proceed with the bus journey as described above.

Flying into Clark can sometimes be more convenient if you find good flight deals and prefer to avoid the longer bus ride from Metro Manila.

For those driving from Manila, the most efficient route involves taking the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and then the Subic-Tarlac-Olongapo Expressway (SCTEX). The drive is approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on traffic. You will take the Subic Bay Freeport Zone exit from SCTEX and follow the signs leading to Olongapo City and Barrio Barretto. Toll fees can add up, so it’s advisable to budget for these.

Having your own vehicle offers the most flexibility for exploring the various attractions in and around Olongapo and Subic at your own pace.

Traveling from other major Philippine cities like Cebu or Davao would typically involve flying into Manila or Clark first. There are no direct flights or bus routes from these cities to Olongapo, Subic. Therefore, the initial step would be to secure your flight to either NAIA or CRK, and then follow the respective travel instructions mentioned above. Planning your journey in advance, especially booking flights and bus tickets, can help secure better prices and ensure a smoother travel experience.

Best Time to Visit Olongapo, Subic

The climate in Olongapo, Subic, is generally tropical, characterized by high temperatures and humidity throughout the year. The region experiences two main seasons: the dry season, which typically runs from November to April, and the wet season, from May to October. The dry season is often considered the peak tourist period, offering sunny days and lower chances of rain, making it ideal for beach activities and outdoor exploration.

Temperatures during this time are warm, averaging around 30-32°C, with slightly cooler evenings.

The wet season, while bringing occasional rainfall, can also offer a different appeal. The rain showers are often brief and followed by sunshine, and the landscape becomes lusher. This period can also see fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices, making it a good time for budget-conscious travelers or those who prefer a more tranquil atmosphere. However, it's advisable to check weather forecasts regularly if you plan to visit during these months, as typhoons can occasionally affect the region.

For a balance of good weather and manageable crowds, the shoulder months of November and April can be excellent choices.

For most Filipino travelers looking for a classic beach vacation experience, the dry season from November to April is generally recommended. This period offers the most reliable weather for enjoying the beaches, water sports, and outdoor attractions that Olongapo and Subic are known for.

However, if you are looking to avoid the largest crowds and potentially find better deals on accommodation and activities, visiting during the early or late parts of the wet season, or even during weekdays in the dry season, can be a smart strategy.

Food and Dining Near Olongapo, Subic — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

The culinary landscape around Olongapo and Subic offers a delightful array of flavors, deeply rooted in Filipino traditions with a coastal influence. One dish that you absolutely must try is **Sinigang na Baboy** or **Sinigang na Isda**. This sour and savory soup, typically made with tamarind broth, is a staple in Filipino households and is particularly comforting after a day by the sea. In Olongapo, you'll find versions that are rich and flavorful, often using fresh local produce.

Look for smaller, local eateries in Barrio Barretto or along the national highway for authentic preparations.

Another local specialty that reflects the region's proximity to the sea is **Grilled Seafood**. Given the abundance of fresh catch, grilled fish, squid, and prawns are a must-try. Many beachfront restaurants offer a selection of seafood that you can choose and have grilled to perfection. The simplicity of grilling often allows the natural flavors of the seafood to shine through, usually served with a side of soy sauce, calamansi, and chili.

This is a characteristic dining experience when visiting any coastal area in the Philippines, and Subic is no exception.

For those with a penchant for something a bit more adventurous, **Kinilaw** is a dish worth seeking out. Similar to ceviche, it involves raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili. The acidity of the vinegar "cooks" the fish, resulting in a refreshing and tangy appetizer or light meal. Freshness is key to a good kinilaw, so seeking out establishments known for their quality seafood is recommended.

It’s a dish that perfectly complements the tropical climate and the seaside setting.

Don't leave Olongapo, Subic, without trying **Pancit**. While variations of this noodle dish are found all over the Philippines, local versions might incorporate regional ingredients or cooking styles. Whether it's pancit bihon, canton, or a mixed variety, it’s a hearty and satisfying meal that’s a staple in Filipino cuisine. Many local carinderias and restaurants will offer their own take on pancit, often served with a slice of calamansi for that essential citrusy zest.

Finally, for a sweet treat or a light snack, try **Halo-Halo**. This popular Filipino dessert is a delightful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s a perfect way to cool down on a hot day and offers a burst of different textures and flavors in every spoonful. You can find halo-halo at most local eateries and dessert shops, and it’s a beloved treat for both locals and tourists alike.

They wouldn’t give me a refund for unused nights, even after their property, and only theirs, was having power outages. I hate doing bad reviews, and I wouldn’t, if they had just refunded me the nights I canceled. To start, the front desk is rarely staffed if you need help, and you will, a lot. The woman who showed me my room never showed me how to use the room safe, that was locked. She didn't tell me the water for the shower didn’t work unless you used a special nob at the top of the shower first. So I couldn’t shower the first and only night I stayed. The sink had little bugs crawling in it and the bed had only one sheet. All that I could forgive, but my two biggest problems sealed the deal on leaving. They never told me I had to manually lock my own door when I left the room. I’ve stayed in older hotels with old keys before, but the doors usually automatically lock. So the first time I left the room it was unlocked for a few hours. And considering the crazy guy who was wandering their hotel (the front desk woman said he was crazy), this scared the crap out of me. It’s easy to forget to lock your door after a few beers on the beach. At the very least they could have warned me. Then the power went off. Not the area, just my wing of the hotel. At this point I’d seen enough to know I wanted to stay somewhere safer, cleaner, and better maintained. And after all that, no refund for my unused nights. I don’t mind paying for the one night I stayed. Worst hotel I’ve stayed in.

Poor plumbing and difficulty with beach vendors. I checked in and was giving a room with a constant water leak. The staff first tried to get me to just live with the problem! I complained and was moved to the next room. The plumbing there was a nightmare. Unless you are over 6 feet tall you cannot reach the shower knob to turn it on/off because the original shower knobs were rusted away and didn't function. Water pressure was always low and strangely would increase and decrease every few seconds. I did not like the beach side outdoor restaurant because there is no security and the souvenir vendors walking the beach kept sneaking into the hotel restaurant to bother us. They would harass you the whole time over and over trying to get you to buy their junk souvenirs. Also, anyone who has been to any of the beaches in Subic Bay knows all of the beaches are covered in trash and dog droppings. This leads to too many flies getting into the restaurant.

Rooms are outdated, dirty, mold in shower, ants all over the room, dry towels were smelled dirty. The staff in the restaurant were not friendly at all and service was a below standards. I would not recommend my worst enemy to stay there. This place is an overall 0. However, they have a nice view of ocean.

had the impression that a pool was on site NO! told can use pool another property but a fee. Beach is there but not very good to swim.Reception was good and froendly, told ocean view would be an additional 2000k ad on to room rate,.originally asked to book ocean view through Expedia told they were booked out yet when we arrived many were available. The bar and food were very good atmosphere service and quality. Our room on second floor was dismal at best. Bathroom shower scummy around shower and bathroom totally out of date. Bedroom was dark dusty and loud from the noise of A/C and the traffic, The A/C was sooo loud couldnt hear TV. , room service was unavailable.. Hallway to room unlit and very dangerous.

I could only recommend this property for divers as from my observations they seemed to run a fairly professional tour group operation. For the rest of us, well don't be deceived that the waterfront luxury balcony rooms are anything like the pictures shown here. The bathroom was the darkest I have ever seen and still has a shower curtain. In the bedroom was an old wooden bed that squeaked so much if you decided to become frisky with your wife (or anyone else) you may wake up every other guest. It did match the wardrobe in the room though, as they both looked like something from the sixties. The attached room leading to the balcony was nice and bright, but they decided not to put a mirror in there for anyone who needed to see what they looked like. The open restaurant/bar looking out to the beach had reasonably friendly staff and I had no complaints about the meals taken there. Overall, I was very disappointed with my chosen room as it was more expensive than the new hotel that now operates just down the road. However, if you are a diver, you may love the place. It really depends on your needs and this room did not suit mine.

My friends were staying nearby but their lodgings were fully booked. I therefore booked close by. The staff were welcoming and courteous and the room despite being a bit dated was clean and tidy with useful amenities that may have been forgotten. My only negative was the room was quite noisy from the box AC and being near the road.

Rather far from the main gate of Subic. You need a car to get here. There are bars and drinking places if you are into that. I booked thinking it was near to people I was visiting. It says 1.2 km to city center. Wrong, which city center. Friends who live here told me I booked the wrong place because it was too far from where they lived. Need to book and use google maps to get correct distance not from hotel sites. They post information tgat is not correct.

Basically, a room above a bar. On a Monday, we could hear people speaking loudly in the bar until the early am. We checked out early and drove back to Manila. Parking is not good and a/c was not operating properly upon arrival. In full disclosure, we paid $18 for room but it was not worth the price.

Parking is awful, because there are only 3 freakin spots at the front!! I had to be rude in order to get a spot. Room was pretty basic, bed squeaking all the time. Sheets smelled like someone smoked in the room so I had them change all the linens and switch pillows. No shower door makes the water flood the bath floor area. Staff great, food is ok. I travelled with my mom and aunt who are both senior citizens and somehow managed to lose their key so this resort billed me an exorbitant amount equivalent of 1 night stay. That room key should never cost me $30. Ridiculous.

The staff and service was outstanding! The room was clean but quite outdated. The biggest disappointment was the beach. It was sad to see so much debris and garbage on the beach. From what I understand, it is bad enough the government is going to shut down area motels for clean up.
