What Guests Say About Their Stay

Marina Terrace (the restaurant) is beautiful for sunset and the couple running it, Kieran and Beth really make the place special. They are knowledgeable world travelers so we found kindred spirits. Kieran is an amazing chef who whipped up to die for risotto as good as we have had in Italy. They gave us great recommendations of where to go and what to do. This is an authentic local experience with few tourists. The town itself is very safe and close by there are some nice hikes and killer beaches nearby. We rented a scooter from them to get around and explore including riding it on Long Beach which was a ball. The rooms are basic with a comfy bed, hot water and decent AC. Rare for these parts is that the water is potable which is huge as you have no worries about getting sick. Highly recommended for travelers looking to hang out with the locals and enjoy a beer on empty beaches. We also rented a private boat and snorkeled some of finest reefs we’ve ever seen. Thank you Kieran, Beth and the rest of the crew for making this a standout among our many travel experiences.

I loved my stay here! The owners are absolutely 💯 on point. Great for a laugh and help with organising anything you may not have thought of. The food in the upstairs restaurant was outstanding and the views were dreamy. I am missing the Phillipines solely because i enjoyed my time here so much. Ill definitely be going back one day. Absolute gem of a location in San Vincinte!

We stayed in room 2 , it’s complete with AC , it has a refrigerator and with very good wifi and TV channels. The building looks rugged outside and neighborhood is laidback but locals are friendly. The town itself is not developed yet but its walkable to good waterway and the island hopping port is an easy walking.

Your Travel Guide to San Vicente as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to San Vicente from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Getting to San Vicente, Palawan, from Manila and other major Philippine cities primarily involves air travel. The most direct route is to fly into San Vicente Airport (SWL). Airlines like Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific often have flights connecting to SWL, though schedules can vary. Flight durations are typically around 1 to 1.5 hours. Fares can range significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, but budget around PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 for a round trip if booked strategically.

Alternatively, you can fly into Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS) or El Nido Airport (ENI), which are larger hubs with more frequent flights. From Puerto Princesa, it’s a van or bus journey of about 4-5 hours to San Vicente, with fares typically ranging from PHP 500 to PHP 800. From El Nido, the travel time is shorter, around 2-3 hours by van, with similar fare expectations. These options offer more flexibility if direct flights to San Vicente are unavailable or too expensive.

For those who prefer land travel or are already in nearby provinces, bus services are available, though this is a much longer and more arduous journey. It usually involves multiple transfers and can take over 12 hours. Given the tropical climate and the distances involved, flying is generally the most recommended and time-efficient method for Filipino travelers looking to reach San Vicente comfortably.

Best Time to Visit San Vicente

The ideal time to visit San Vicente, Palawan, for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, calmer seas, and lower chances of rainfall, making it perfect for beach activities, island hopping, and exploring the natural landscapes. The months of December to February are particularly pleasant, with cooler temperatures and minimal humidity, offering a comfortable climate for sightseeing.

The shoulder months, such as November and May, can also be excellent times to visit. You might find fewer crowds compared to the peak season (December to February) and potentially better deals on accommodations and flights. However, it’s important to be aware that occasional rain showers can still occur, especially in November as the season transitions.

The wet season, from June to October, brings a higher chance of typhoons and heavy rainfall, which can disrupt travel plans and outdoor activities. While this period might offer lower prices and fewer tourists, it’s generally less predictable for a relaxing beach vacation. If you do choose to visit during this time, always monitor weather forecasts closely and be prepared for potential itinerary changes.

Food and Dining Near San Vicente — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

San Vicente offers a delightful culinary scene that reflects the rich flavors of Filipino cuisine, with a special emphasis on fresh seafood. When you visit, make sure to try *Kinilaw*, a local ceviche made with fresh raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili. It’s a refreshing appetizer that perfectly captures the taste of the sea. You’ll find variations of this dish in most local eateries and restaurants.

Another must-try is *La Paz Batchoy*, a hearty noodle soup originating from Iloilo but popular across the Philippines. In San Vicente, you might find local versions prepared with fresh ingredients, offering a warm and comforting meal, especially after a day of exploring. The savory broth, tender noodles, and flavorful toppings make it a satisfying dish for any time of day.

Seafood lovers will also want to indulge in grilled fish and *Sinigang na Hipon* (shrimp in sour broth). The proximity to the ocean means you’ll have access to the freshest catch, often grilled to perfection and served with a side of soy sauce, calamansi, and chili. *Sinigang*, a characteristic Filipino sour soup, is particularly delicious when made with fresh shrimp, tamarind, and local vegetables, offering a tangy and savory experience. Don't forget to try *Halo-Halo* for dessert, a popular Filipino mixed-dessert that’s perfect for cooling down in the tropical heat.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for San Vicente

San Vicente is known for its friendly and welcoming local population. The culture is deeply rooted in Filipino traditions, with a strong sense of community and hospitality. When interacting with locals, always be respectful, use polite language like "po" and "opo," and greet them with a smile. Understanding and appreciating local customs will enhance your experience and foster positive interactions.

Safety in San Vicente is generally good, as it is a relatively peaceful area. However, like any travel destination, it’s wise to take standard precautions. Keep your valuables secure, be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas or at night, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit places. It’s also advisable to stay hydrated, use sunscreen, and be mindful of the strong sun. For emergencies, note down local police or emergency service numbers, though direct contact information might be limited in smaller towns.

For your trip, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is crucial for getting around, even if mobile signal can be spotty in some areas. A translation app can be helpful if you encounter individuals who speak dialects you're not familiar with, though English is widely understood in tourist areas. Simple, but clean and comfortable. We booked a little room with bunk beds but we actually slept together in the bottom bunk, no problem at all! Has a nice nautical theme running through the guest house. Aircon is cold, shower is hot if you want it. Off road parking for bikes right outside. Susan, the owner, very friendly. Right price, which seems to be a rarity in the Philippines, so all good.

The authentic traveller experience we are all looking for is found here at marina 4rooms. This small boutique hotel is in the centre of the small fishing town of san vicente. There are a few excellent restaurants nearby and it is surrounded by beautiful beaches. We were fortunate to have the standard room and the view from the window is wonderful. There is always something going on in san vicente. My wife and i felt this could have been a place hemingway would have stayed, it has that feel of him writing sitting in the window and the strolling down to the mango bar to invent some cocktail we would all then order in the savoy. Its not a five star dubai plastic palace its so much more than that.
