Incredible place, we had a fantastic time. I guess we got lucky because on a few dining occasions we were the only ones there which was very special. Everybody did a wonderful job and the pool is magnificent. If you haven’t been there yet you need to get there… The room was perfect. The staff was outstanding. Your Travel Guide to Panglao, Panglao Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Panglao, Panglao Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers from Manila and other major Philippine cities, flying is the most practical way to reach Panglao, Bohol. Bohol Panglao International Airport (TAG) serves the island. Flight durations typically range from 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes. Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, but budget airlines often offer competitive prices, sometimes starting from PHP 2,000 to PHP 4,000 for a round trip if booked early.

While direct bus travel from Manila to Panglao is not feasible due to the sea crossing, you can take a bus to a ferry terminal and then a ferry. However, this is a significantly longer and more complex journey. For instance, a bus from Manila to a port like Cebu would take approximately 20-24 hours, followed by a ferry to Bohol which can take another 2-4 hours. This option is generally chosen by those seeking a more adventurous, budget-conscious trip and have ample time.

Driving to Panglao is possible for those coming from nearby Visayas regions, but it involves ferry crossings. For example, from Cebu, you would take a ferry to Bohol. The journey requires careful planning regarding ferry schedules and routes. Toll fees and fuel costs should be factored in, making it a viable option primarily for those already in the Visayas region with their own vehicle.

Best Time to Visit Panglao, Panglao Island

The dry season, generally from November to May, is considered the best time to visit Panglao, Panglao Island. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calmer seas, which are ideal for beach activities, island hopping, and water sports. The peak tourist season falls between December and February, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher prices for accommodation and flights.

The wet season, from June to October, brings occasional rainfall, which can range from short, heavy downpours to prolonged drizzles. While this period might see fewer tourists and lower prices, making it attractive for budget travelers, some outdoor activities might be affected by the weather. However, the rain often brings lush greenery to the island, and the showers are usually intermittent, allowing for plenty of sunshine in between.

For a balance of good weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as November or May. These periods often offer pleasant weather conditions similar to the dry season but with a more relaxed atmosphere and potentially better deals on travel and accommodation. This allows you to enjoy Panglao's beauty without the peak season intensity.

Food and Dining Near Panglao, Panglao Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Kinilaw, a Filipino ceviche, is a must-try when in Panglao. Fresh raw fish, typically tuna or tanigue, is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. The tangy and spicy flavors are incredibly refreshing, especially in the tropical heat. You can find excellent versions of kinilaw in many local eateries and restaurants along the coast.

Another local delicacy to savor is fresh seafood, grilled to perfection. Panglao is surrounded by waters teeming with marine life, so expect an abundance of options like grilled fish, squid, prawns, and scallops. Many beachfront restaurants offer a "paluto" service where you can select your fresh catch and have it cooked according to your preference, often simply grilled with a squeeze of calamansi.

For a taste of Bohol’s unique culinary offerings, try Boholano Peanut Kisses. These are heart-shaped cookies made from ground peanuts and egg whites, baked until crisp. While technically a dessert or snack, they are a beloved local treat that embodies the simple, sweet flavors of the region. They make for a great pasalubong (souvenir) too.

Don't leave Panglao without trying La Paz Batchoy, a hearty noodle soup originating from Iloilo but popular across the Philippines. This rich broth, filled with pork, shrimp, and various toppings, is a comforting and flavorful dish. It’s perfect for a satisfying meal, especially on a cooler evening or after a day of exploring.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Panglao, Panglao Island

Filipino travelers visiting Panglao should be mindful of local customs. Politeness and respect are highly valued; using "po" and "opo" when addressing elders or strangers is a sign of good manners. When visiting churches or more traditional areas, dress modestly. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people.

Safety in Panglao is generally good, but like any tourist destination, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings. Keep your valuables secure, especially in crowded areas like markets or beaches. It’s advisable to use reputable transportation services and be cautious of overly aggressive touts. For emergencies, the local police hotline is usually accessible via 911.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is crucial for navigation. Ride-hailing apps or local transport apps can be helpful for getting around. A translation app might be useful if you plan to interact extensively with locals who may not speak English fluently, though English is widely understood in tourist areas.

Having a reliable communication app like WhatsApp or Messenger is also beneficial for staying in touch with family and friends back home. These apps allow for free messaging and calls over WiFi, keeping you connected throughout your trip. This place is an absolute oasis in Panglao. It is secluded, peaceful, beautiful and welcoming. We really had a nice stay at the end of our Bohol trip, and are glad we were here. There are two important things to address though: I was really figuring that all of the other comments about the rocky driveway were an exaggeration - they are not. (Note to facility managers - add a surcharge to each stay for road improvements. That needs to be an absolute priority. Your guests will thank you). Next is the “spa” - this is a misnomer. The spa is a glorified locker room. Stop marketing a spa, and change to in-room spa services! The masseuses were terrific, but if we had used the appointed facility, it would have been a debacle. The staff here are wonderful - they are polite, helpful, kind, and gracious. With subtle tweaks, this place can move forward and thrive.

The resort itself was beautiful and the staff was friendly and very helpful. It has a lovely pool and seating areas. However, some of our rooms shower heads did not work, dinners at the restaurant on property was subpar, but breakfast was great. The rooms were clean but the decor seemed cheap while trying to be fancy. You pay luxury prices for not full luxury conditions.

We loved staying at the Marina Point hotel and Pangalao it was the favourite part of our holiday. The place is about 1 year old and it is designed so well. The pool layout was fabulous as you can swim right round it so you can have a lovely relaxing swim. There was always plenty of sun beds. The bedroom and bathrooms were huge and again very stylish. Beds were comfortable, air con worked well. Their room towels and dressing gowns all looked brand new and luxurious. Breakfast was very good plus we ate food off the menu often in the day or at night and was all delicious, food and drinks were very reasonable. The staff at the Marina point deserve a special thank you as all of them were very friendly and helpful and would remember things that you liked so you get special attention. The staff were all brill including on the reception, security, house keeping, waiters but the names we can remember are Jason, Renaldo, Nino We had read quite a few negative comments about this place so we were a bit worried and we don’t go out of our way to find faults but we thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it. It is about 10 mins in a tuk tuk from Alona beach but tuk Tula are readily available there and back and they charge 150 pesos which is nothing! There is a rocky road to get down to the hotel but it is not just to this hotel there are private residences and other hotels too and sure in time it will improve

The beautiful new property had wonderful staff, an amazing pool and the rooms where fantastic. The breakfast menu could be a bit better and the road to the hotel needs some serious attention otherwise a 9/10

Pool area in hotel was great, but the rest was poor. Booked room not avialable on arrival, replacement room had a flood during the night so we had to change, then my inexpensive jewelry was stolen. Staff & management didn't seem to care. Dirty welcome drink glass was still next to my bed 3 days later when we checked out.

I booked this resort for my two cousins since they were a last minute addition and the resort I was staying at was too expensive to book for them, but Marina was located close by our resort. This is their review of Marina: We stayed at Marina for 4 days and 3 nights and had a wonderful experience. The breakfast selection was great, especially with the variety of fresh fruits served daily. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, making it easy to relax. The highlight of our stay was definitely the pool and beautifully landscaped surroundings. Perfect for unwinding. Most importantly, the staff were very accommodating and genuinely friendly, which made the stay even more enjoyable.

Utrolig hjælpsomt personale. Nogle ting virker lidt slidt allerede og poolen var desværre for beskidt til, at vi turde gå i.

Just an amazing quiet hotel a little away from the sizzling noise of the city. Food and service was excellent and maybe some of the best cocktails we had in all the Philippines. The rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable and because of the layout of the hotel all rooms are very close to the pool. All the amenities needed are available, so you just must concentrate on enjoying your stay. The staff of the hotel are all very friendly and helpful and compared to other Philippine hotels, they all gave a little extra to make us feel at welcome and appreciated. In total then this hotel is just worth every penny.

Incredible place, we had a fantastic time. I guess we got lucky because on a few dining occasions we were the only ones there which was very special. Everybody did a wonderful job and the pool is magnificent. If you haven’t been there yet you need to get there… The room was perfect. The staff was outstanding. The breakfast and lunch was incredible and the pool beyond magnificent. Right off the main road so you can access transportation easily.

Mixed review. Resort is nice. Rooms are big and clean. Had no hot water. TV didn’t work and couldn’t lock the door. Reported to front desk but nothing was done about it. 3 days no hot water is not really good enough.

Too quiet , not ideal place for young people. Facility is clean , very accommodating staff / friendly but the only drawback- road to the resort too rough , even tricycles a bit hesitant to drive you there. The place a bit far from places to eat & Alona beach too !

I enjoyed my spacious and uncluttered room. The grounds were beautiful and meticulously maintained. The staff were all top notch … so caring, helpful and courteous. I especially looked forward to my daily Filipino breakfast. Sooo yummy. Also appreciated the calm atmosphere. So restful. We'll stay again for sure!
