Your Travel Guide to Valenzuela as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Valenzuela from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For the most convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, the most common way to reach Metro Manila is by air. Major airlines operate frequent flights to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. From provincial hubs like Cebu, Davao, or Iloilo, flight prices can range from PHP 2,000 to PHP 6,000 or more, depending on the season and how far in advance you book your flight.

Once you land at NAIA, you can take a taxi or a pre-booked car service to Valenzuela, a journey that typically takes 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, with fares ranging from PHP 500 to PHP 800.

If you are traveling from Northern Luzon, bus travel is a practical and economical option. Numerous bus companies operate routes to Metro Manila terminals like Cubao or Pasay. From these terminals, you can then take a local bus or jeepney heading towards Valenzuela. Bus fares from major provincial cities can range from PHP 500 to PHP 1,000, with travel times varying significantly based on distance and traffic. This method is ideal for those who prefer a scenic overland journey.

For those driving from nearby provinces, Valenzuela is accessible via major expressways. If coming from the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), you can take the Valenzuela exit. Toll fees typically range from PHP 50 to PHP 150, depending on your starting point and vehicle type. Navigating through Metro Manila requires some familiarity with the road network, but major highways like MacArthur Highway, where Meaco Hotel - Valenzuela is located, are well-signed.

Best Time to Visit Valenzuela

Valenzuela, like much of Metro Manila, experiences a tropical climate with two main seasons: the dry season from November to April and the wet season from May to October. The dry season generally offers more pleasant weather for outdoor activities, with average temperatures ranging from 25°C to 32°C. This period, particularly from December to February, is often considered the most comfortable time to visit, with lower humidity and less frequent rainfall.

The wet season, while characterized by occasional heavy downpours, can also be a good time to visit if you are looking for fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices. The rain typically occurs in the afternoon, so mornings are often still suitable for exploration. It’s advisable to pack an umbrella or raincoat and be prepared for potential traffic delays caused by heavy rain. Regardless of the season, Meaco Hotel - Valenzuela provides a comfortable indoor retreat.

Food and Dining Near Valenzuela — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Valenzuela and its surrounding areas offer a rich culinary landscape that reflects Filipino tastes. A must-try dish is Adobo, the unofficial national dish, typically made with chicken or pork braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. You can find excellent versions in local eateries, often served with steamed rice. Another staple is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, usually with pork, fish, or shrimp, flavored with tamarind or other souring agents like guava or calamansi. Its comforting warmth is perfect after a day of exploring.

For those seeking something a bit more substantial, Lechon Kawali, crispy fried pork belly, is a popular choice, offering a delightful crunch and rich flavor, best enjoyed with a side of soy-vinegar dipping sauce. Kare-Kare, a rich stew made with oxtail, tripe, and vegetables in a thick peanut sauce, served with bagoong (fermented shrimp paste), is another iconic Filipino dish that showcases complex flavors. Many local carinderias and restaurants in Valenzuela will serve these dishes.

Don't forget to sample Pancit, a variety of Filipino noodle dishes, each with its own unique preparation and ingredients, from Pancit Canton to Pancit Palabok. For a sweet ending, Halo-Halo, a popular dessert made with shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream, is a refreshing treat, especially during warmer days. Exploring these local flavors will give you a true taste of Filipino cuisine.

These establishments often provide authentic Filipino dishes at affordable prices. This place needs a major renovation. When toilet is flushed, the contents literally leaks out the back of toilet into the shower area. Toilet seat will not stay in place. The sink was extremely rusted to the point it will literally fall off the wall anytime. The spout was rusted off the sink itself. Metal on furniture was rusted too. Bathroom window will not shut all the way- had to tape the open areas to prevent bugs from entering. Other people had issues with sewer stench and had to move rooms 3x. Few good things were friendly staff, location is near laundry shop and the mall.

The property is old and poorly maintained. They didn't clean the room nor change the bed linens during my 4-day stay.

The staff is what makes this hotel. A young lady named April exemplified the high marks this staff deserves. She went out of her way to help customers.
