My pros and cons about this hotel/resort Pros: I flew down from California to stay here at this wonderful place and I have to say it was just all amazing don’t listen to the reviews online I stayed in a sea view room for a week and I felt like home everything was so convenient and the staff was amazing and fast I would highly recommend this place.. Cons: there isn’t much Cons besides the shower head being odd and shooting water all over the bathroom and getting everything wet so we used the hand shower head which is ok.. another con was the insects, occasionally we would get these big spiders all over the bathroom and centipedes crawling everywhere and my girlfriend would completely go crazy because she seen one lol another con was the inconvenience of the security guards almost getting me for coming into the security gate in a taxi because we went into town I mean it’s good the have really amazing security but come on we passed the security check checkpoint and they knew us lol but yea overall it was amazing! Highly recommend it!!

Your Travel Guide to Bacacay (Misimis Bay) as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Bacacay (Misimis Bay) from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For Filipino travelers planning a trip to the serene shores of Bacacay (Misimis Bay), reaching this Albay destination is an adventure in itself, with several convenient options available from major hubs like Manila, Cebu, and Davao. The most efficient way to get to the region is by air. From Manila (Ninoy Aquino International Airport - NAIA), you can book flight tickets to Legazpi Airport (LGP).

Several airlines operate daily flights, with travel time averaging around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Fares can range from approximately PHP 2,500 to PHP 6,000 or more, depending on the season and how far in advance you book. From Legazpi Airport, you will then need to arrange onward transportation to Cagraray Island, which typically involves a land transfer to a port and a short boat ride.

If you prefer traveling by land from Manila, you can take a bus to Legazpi City. Several bus companies offer routes from terminals in Metro Manila (like Cubao or Pasay) to Legazpi. This journey is considerably longer, taking approximately 10 to 12 hours. Bus tickets usually cost between PHP 800 to PHP 1,500 for a one-way trip. Upon arrival in Legazpi City, you would then proceed with arrangements for reaching Cagraray Island, similar to the process from the airport.

For travelers coming from Cebu or Davao, flying into Legazpi City is generally the most practical option, as direct land routes are either non-existent or extremely time-consuming.

Driving to Bacacay (Misimis Bay) is also an option for those who enjoy road trips and have their own vehicle. The drive from Manila to Legazpi City is a long one, covering a significant distance through Luzon. Major highways like the Pan-Philippine Highway will be your primary route. The total driving time can be around 10 to 12 hours, excluding stops.

Toll fees will apply along the way, and it's advisable to plan your route and stops in advance to ensure a comfortable journey. Once you reach the Legazpi or Tabaco area, you will then need to find local transport to the port for your transfer to Cagraray Island.

Best Time to Visit Bacacay (Misimis Bay)

The climate in Bacacay (Misimis Bay) is tropical, characterized by warm temperatures year-round. For Filipino travelers planning their visit, the dry season, typically from November to May, is generally considered the most favorable time to visit. During these months, you can expect less rainfall and more sunshine, making it ideal for enjoying the beaches, swimming pools, and outdoor activities offered by Misibis Bay and the surrounding island.

The seas are usually calmer, which is beneficial for boat transfers and any water-based excursions you might plan.

The wet season, from June to October, can bring intermittent to heavy rainfall and occasional typhoons, especially during the months of August to October. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it also means that outdoor activities could be disrupted by the weather. If you are traveling during the wet season, it's wise to have a flexible itinerary and be prepared for changes.

For those who prefer guaranteed good weather for their vacation, aiming for the dry season will provide a more predictable and enjoyable experience in Bacacay (Misimis Bay).

Food and Dining Near Bacacay (Misimis Bay) — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

The Bicol Region is renowned for its distinct and flavorful cuisine, and Bacacay (Misimis Bay) offers a gateway to these culinary delights. A must-try dish is Bicol Express, a rich and spicy stew made with pork, coconut milk, shrimp paste (bagoong), and an abundance of chilies. The creamy texture of the coconut milk balances the fiery heat of the chilies, creating a complex and addictive flavor profile that is a true representation of Bicolano cooking.

You can find excellent versions of this dish in local eateries and even at Misibis Bay's restaurant.

Another local specialty that should not be missed is Laing. This dish features taro leaves (gabi) simmered in thick coconut milk with dried fish or pork, and of course, chilies. The slow cooking process allows the taro leaves to become incredibly tender, absorbing all the savory and spicy flavors. The unique texture and taste of Laing make it a standout dish, offering a comforting and authentic Bicolano experience. Look for it in local carinderias for an authentic taste.

For seafood lovers, the proximity to the coast means fresh catches are readily available. Grilled fish, prawns, and squid are common offerings in local restaurants. Enjoying freshly grilled seafood, perhaps seasoned simply with salt, pepper, and calamansi, allows the natural flavors of the ocean to shine through. Many local establishments near the ports or along the coast will have daily specials featuring the freshest catch of the day.

Don't forget to try Kinunot, a dish that typically features shark or stingray meat (though other fish can be used) cooked in vinegar with coconut milk, onions, garlic, and ginger, often with malunggay (moringa) leaves. The name "kinunot" refers to the shredded or flaked texture of the fish. It’s a lighter yet flavorful dish compared to Bicol Express or Laing, offering a different dimension to the region's culinary landscape.

Exploring these dishes will provide a deeper appreciation for the local culture and the unique flavors of Albay.

Understanding and appreciating local customs will enhance your interactions and overall experience.

Safety in Bacacay (Misimis Bay) is generally good, especially within the resort areas like Misibis Bay. However, as with any travel, it's always wise to exercise common sense precautions. The room seems like it was not ready when we got in our room. There were no bath towels, and no other toiletries set up. I just booked a standard room and it should have included robes, slippers, and hair dryer. None of these were available upon check in. I waited for more than 40 minutes after I requested the towels and had to do a follow-up phone call because I’d really wanted to take a shower. The staff are very friendly. The breakfast buffet isn’t the best either. The facility is gorgeous. We also own a property at the Misibis resort and wanted to visit our property. At first they said the person that holds the map isn’t available. Until I was very vocal with my disappointment, and miraculously, they found someone that took us to see our property. Another complaint is that, they told us there is no wifi where our room was. They gave us a ridiculous/ stupid reason This is the 5th accommodation I have been for the last 3 weeks of my vacation and all of them had wifi. Even restaurants in the area offered free wifi and this high end resort did not.

Only one restaurant, after 10 pm cannot order any food or drinks, everything closed. Floors in rooms too slippery. Beach side not clean.

The staff are excellent and always attentive to our needs. The hotel resort is clean including amenities and they surprised us with small cake during our breakfast to celebrate our 31st anniversary. I recommended Misibis Bay to my friend as a venue for their wedding due to the serenity of the resort

It was the best place to stay in Bicol region close to daraga albay and the service of the whole resort was excellent. The restaurant vibes was just right and service was great the whole time we were there. It had variety of food every day and the buffet set was amazing.

Misibis Bay has improved so much based on previous years customer reviews I read. The staff services , cleanliness and the refreshing smell of the Villa room and all its linens and robes are very soothing . The quiet serene place is pure relaxation. I truly appreciate ALL the staff communication, excellent service in catering to my family private dinner by the beach in celebration of my 50th birthday . All 17 of my family were served with delicious 5 course gourmet plated dinner in a very timely manner , well decorated long table and well mannered staff . I love the huge bonfire wood set up that they surprised me . There are so much excellent things and meaningful experiences we had and would like to share to others so they too would experience the same . I wish to go back to this lovely place and be pampered again . We love you Misibis Bay staff . We are so grateful for the wonderful time and experiences you made us feel so special. It is embedded forever in our memories.

We stayed in a Beachfront Villa. The view was nice. Having our own plunge pool made it extra special. The staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was well taken care of. The food was good, definitely an improvement since our previous visit. We arranged to have a private five course dinner setup by the beach, and the staff delivered above and beyond what I asked for. We opted for early check-out, and the staff offered packed breakfast to go. There’s plenty to do. We swam by the beach and in their pools, while my partner rented a kayak. They’re repainting the resort and upgrading several facilities at the moment. I am hoping the upgrades are finished by the time of my return. Overall if was a very pleasant stay. The staff truly made this a memorable visit. Special mention to Melanie at the front office for going above and beyond. Will definitely return.

I used to love Misibis Bay resort but they failed to meet my expectations this time... e.g. Like some areas are dusty, the tea have molds already. The aircon system in the resto were not working, limited choices of foods, 1-2hours check-in and check-out process are not world class qualities. I understand that during this pandemic, they are understaffed but they can do way better... I hope that on my next visit, the services are already improved..

The amenities, location and scenery was spot on as a destination for an out of town vacation. We were lucky because there were very few guests when we were there and we had the place to ourselves. Only downside was the "kakanin" that was offered was limited to "kamote cues" - we were expecting more variety. Also, the corrals around the area used for snorkeling are showing signs of the global warming - like all other corrals in most places.

that high amount of price to stay I will say it’s missing a lot. The staff was excellent but the place is a bit old and also the brakefast was very simple. Nice pools but that’s about it. Sorry to say but you have much to learn from better hotels. I will rank it as 3 star hotel, not more.
