Best Time to Visit Moalboal

Moalboal enjoys a tropical climate year-round, making it a destination accessible for travelers at any time. However, the dry season, generally from November to May, is considered the best time to visit. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower chances of rain, which is ideal for outdoor activities like diving, snorkeling, and exploring the coastline.

The peak tourist season often coincides with the dry months, particularly around the Christmas holidays and Holy Week. While the weather is excellent, expect larger crowds and potentially higher prices for accommodation and tours. For a more relaxed experience and potentially better rates, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November, early December, or late May.

Food and Dining Near Moalboal — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Cebu is complete without savoring Kinilaw, a Filipino ceviche where fresh raw fish is cured in vinegar, calamansi juice, and spices. It’s a refreshing dish, perfect for the tropical climate, and you can find excellent versions in local eateries around Moalboal, often made with the day's fresh catch.

Another must-try is Lechon Cebuano, renowned for its crispy skin and succulent, flavorful meat. While you might find it in restaurants, seeking out a local carinderia or a specialty lechon stall will offer an authentic taste. It’s a celebratory dish that embodies Filipino culinary traditions and is a delight for any food lover.

For a taste of local comfort food, try Pancit. Whether it's pancit canton, bihon, or a mix, this noodle dish is a staple in Filipino households and eateries. It’s often prepared with vegetables and meat, offering a satisfying and affordable meal. Many small restaurants and food stalls in Moalboal will serve delicious bowls of pancit.

Don't forget to sample some fresh seafood. Given Moalboal's coastal location, grilled fish, squid, and prawns are readily available and incredibly fresh. Many restaurants offer a 'paluto' service where you can choose your seafood and have it cooked to your preference, often grilled or in a garlic butter sauce.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Moalboal

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and respect for elders. When interacting with locals, a simple 'po' and 'opo' (yes, sir/ma'am) goes a long way. Dress modestly when visiting churches or more traditional areas. Understanding and respecting local customs will enhance your interactions and overall experience in Moalboal.

Moalboal is generally a safe place for tourists. However, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying large amounts of cash. For any emergencies, know the local police contact number, which can usually be obtained from your hotel or by asking locals.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A navigation app like Google Maps is crucial for getting around. The facilities and rooms are run down and require an update. Stay in the room at poolside but the curtain is too thin, so there is light into the room all night. Pillows are uncomfortable.

The pool is good here and that’s about it (however it is pretty dirty at times). When we checked in we did not have any basic amenities such as soap or even towels. We had to walk to reception 3 times for towels, and were told “we’ll bring them to the room” but they never came. Our room was not cleaned for the 3 nights we stayed here. The bathroom floods and our toilet stopped working. We have stayed in a lot of hotels in Asia and this was by far the worst (and also one of the more expensive)

I don't know how this place got such a good rating. Don't stay here- brown water coming out of the sink, the worst beds like a prison, can't even sit on the toilet since the seat can't support weight. This would be a horribly rated hostel- do not stay here. Left early and for 1/2 the price stayed at Marco Polo Plaza in Cebu - way better. Jails in America are nicer than this

The swimming pool was great to dip-in especially coming from a long trip. However, the rooms were disappointing. We booked for 3 rooms and one of the room's aircon was not working well. We initially thought that it maybe because we just arrived (around 5-6pm) and it needed time to cool our room so we enjoyed the pool first. By 10pm, my father-in-law who went up earlier was looking for any staff as the airconditioning unit was not working properly and the kids could not sleep as they were all sweating (we were still by the pool at this time). The staff was reluctant to transfer us to new rooms as front office was closed already. We were transferred into 2 different rooms as they do not have available room for 6 already. Surprisingly, the aircons at these units were not functioning as well but way better than our initial room. We thought that it was just normal but the other rooms that we have booked were great except that one of the room's shower was not working and they had to use the bidet for showr. We were told that we cannot use the new room's facilities as we will be charged for additional room so we opted to go back to our original room by morning and everybody was sweating as well as our kids while waiting for our checkout time.

The facilities and rooms are run down and require an update. Stay in the room at poolside but the curtain is too thin, so there is light into the room all night. Pillows are uncomfortable.

Big room. Not the best wifi in the room. Liked they had a bar and food at the hotel and they accepted credit card as payment. Would stay here again. No elevator, but they are great to help with the luggage.

Close to some restaurants. Nice pool but could use a few more lounge chairs. Great cocktails at the poolside bar and the food was decent.

I was expecting more from the room, the washroom was pretty outdated and the shower was terrible

We stayed with our extended family and a person with a disability. The staff are very accommodating. On two occasions we had to leave early for activity and because it was too early for breakfast service, we are provided with other breakfast alternatives. Thank you to the kitchen staff, especially to Joe Marie and Julius.

Check in was smooth and so was check out. The room was clean with a minimum of crawly creatures, but hey its the tropics right? Wi-fi was fast. The free breakfast was egg..lunch meat ham..toast..coffee. I would stay at moalboal tropics again
