Far from the city but that's the good thing because the place offers a relaxation vibe free from the hustle and bustle of the city. We felt that we own the place since it is not crowded when we went there. Very nice and big room.

An amazing overall experience. Beautiful and well maintained grounds, comfortable rooms, peaceful surroundings. The staff made every effort to make our stay memorable. Everyone from Benjie (manager), Maryjo, Lorna, Evalyn, Faith, Jennifer, Rubelyn, Mia, the wonderful cooks who made delicious meals, Mitch the diving instructor and Aries—- many thanks for your kind attention to the smallest of details. Your kindness and compassion for my handicapped brother and accommodating our challenging requests did not go unappreciated. I highly recommend visiting this little slice of heaven. From Bacolod, you'll need to take a bus or van heading south towards Hinoba-an, a journey of about 4 to 5 hours.

Alternatively, flying to Dumaguete offers another route. Flights to Dumaguete from Manila are similarly priced. From Dumaguete, you can take a bus or van that goes north along the coast, or opt for a ferry to Sibulan and then proceed by land. The total travel time from Dumaguete to Hinoba-an is also around 4 to 5 hours. Booking your book flight in advance is recommended for better fares.

For those coming from other parts of Negros Occidental, like Bacolod City, bus services are readily available. Buses depart regularly from the Bacolod South Bus Terminal. The fare is generally affordable, typically between PHP 400 to PHP 600. The scenic route offers views of the countryside and coastal areas as you make your way to the southern tip of the province.

Best Time to Visit Hinoba-an

The ideal time to visit Hinoba-an is generally during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calmer seas, perfect for enjoying the beaches and any planned water activities. The weather is typically pleasant, with average temperatures ranging from 25 to 32 degrees Celsius.

The wet season, from June to October, can bring intermittent rainfall. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it could also affect outdoor plans. If you don't mind occasional showers and are looking for a more tranquil visit, the shoulder months of November or May can offer a good balance of favorable weather and fewer crowds.

Food and Dining Near Hinoba-an — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When in Hinoba-an, make sure to try fresh seafood, a staple in this coastal town. Grilled fish, prawns, and squid are commonly available and prepared simply to highlight their natural flavors. Look for local eateries or carinderias that serve these catches of the day, often accompanied by rice and a side of soy sauce with calamansi.

Another local favorite you should seek out is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, offering a tangy and refreshing taste. It’s a perfect appetizer or light meal, especially on a warm day. Many local restaurants and even market stalls will offer their own take on this classic dish.

Don't leave without trying some local Negros Occidental specialties if available. While Hinoba-an is more focused on coastal fare, dishes like Chicken Inasal, a grilled chicken marinated in a mixture of vinegar, calamansi, and annatto oil, are popular throughout the province. If you find a place serving it, it’s a flavorful experience worth savoring.

For those with a sweet tooth, try local delicacies like Buko Pie or other pastries made with fresh ingredients. Many small bakeries or market vendors sell these treats. Enjoying these with a cup of local coffee or juice provides a delightful end to any meal or a pleasant afternoon snack.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Hinoba-an

The people of Hinoba-an are known for their hospitality. A simple greeting like "Maayong adlaw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) in the local dialect will be appreciated. Respect local customs, such as dressing modestly when visiting religious sites or interacting with elders. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people.

For safety, Hinoba-an is generally a peaceful place. However, it's always wise to take standard precautions: keep your valuables secure, be aware of your surroundings, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas late at night. In case of emergencies, local police can be reached through their station, and it's good to have the resort's contact number handy.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is crucial for navigation. This is a nice place to relax. Not a lot 2 do, so if stating busy with activities is your thing, this is not for you. The rooms are clean, but maintenance would make it more enjoyable. Simple things such as tightening a screw to keep a lamp together or adjusting the shower door to roll. This type of preventative maintenance would help the wear and tear overall. Pool maintenance would be nice also. Simple things like this is what brings guest back. The food and its service was better this year than in prior years. I believe this was because there were more guests . Billing can be much improved. We caught several errors. A final note would be that it would be nice if there was a dedicated area for smokers. Its not pleasant for those who dont smoke to be subject to it while eating. Overall its a nice quiet place to relax. To justify the higher costs of this resort, maintenance in roons and grounds must be done for return trips.

Very funny rules that would insult the average traveler (no food or drink in room....). Staff is new and un-trained. Manager needs training in hospitality as well. Foods menu needs expansion, and I was told it would increase. In fairness it was obvious they were in transition. In fairness to me, it made for an un-enjoyable trip. We never learned what activities were available because no one told us (even after multiple asks). No internet access in room (which is a good thing because it forces you outside). Low voltage, so laptop and phones wouldnt charge (so you had to go outside and enjoy the natural beauty). The views and night time music was very nice and made quite a nice memory. I wish them the best because it is a gem tucked away in paradise. Keep an open mind.

Of the friendly staff Bebing (food & beverage) was the friendliest. Her service offset the friendly but somewhat unconfident demeanor of the reception staff. The food, kinda pricey but reasonable for resort standards, was delicious & had good portions.

We stayed in the family room with a nice view of the water. One screen door was broken,we have to ask for additional towels , housekeeping was not done everyday but we did not bother to ask.On the positive side,Jacinto , the cook ,was excellent. He accomodated all our requests & whipped up delicious dishes! Arve one of the dining staff was accomodating as well & prepared delicious desserts for us.My nieces & nephew enjoyed jet skiing & banana boat ride. Rodrigo who's in charge of the watersports is excellent as well,he made sure everybody had a good time.Overall we had a wonderful time.

The staff was excellent, very friendly, and always willing to serve. I had no problems with that. They deserve a raise. The beach was nice but could had used some new furniture. It took away from the ambiance of the resort. The roofs on the resort was an eyesore to me and took away from the appeal also. Driving into the resort also didn't look appealing as well as the jet ski and boats they had sitting next to the restaurant. Once I was settled in, as long as I stayed close to the restaurant, bar, and pool area, I felt more at ease and relaxed. If the price was about half, maybe 2/3rds what I paid I would had expected what I got, but the resort is way to pricey for what I did get. The staff was world class and for what I paid I hope they get paid well because it was them that made me feel at home. The owner needs to invest in a better ambiance for the price I paid. They did offer a ride to the bus stop and that was a plus. I would stay again if the cost were lower. Maybe $75 U.S. a night, but I think if they did some upgrades and made the resort look friendlier driving into the resort, I'd think the cost per night could be justified. The pool was clean and nice and in shade. I couldn't get any hot water but the water was warm enough to take shower anyway. They also need a gift shop with t shirts and sell personal care products like shaving cream which I could not find anywhere.

The food and serving size was fair for the price. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms could be updated and repaired and the pools were in poor condition unfortunately.

Nice beach with calm waters to relax and unwind from modern life - the road was a bit far and rocky at the last leg to get there - still worth the experience.

We’ll definitely be back.

No refrigerator in the room asked for it, never brought one, So the Yogurt that was brought for my GF medical condition went bad along with the milk she drinks for stomach problems, has to ask for sundries. No manager on duty with absentee owners you can understand the substandard service, will not recommend to friends and stay at artistic dive as normally done in the past, there you are treated like family

We had a very relaxing time, the atmosphere was quiet and peaceful despite the construction happening at the time. The food was delicious and the staff very graciously accommodated our changed plans, we only wish we knew about the complimentary breakfast. The room was perfect for us and the beach and pool areas were great hang-out times.
