Your Travel Guide to Dauis, Panglao Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Dauis, Panglao Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For Filipino travelers planning a trip to Dauis, Panglao Island, the most common and efficient way to reach Bohol is by air. From Manila, several airlines operate daily flights to Bohol-Panglao International Airport (TAG). Major carriers like Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific offer multiple flights, with travel time averaging around 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book, but expect to pay anywhere from PHP 2,500 to PHP 7,000 for a round trip. Booking your book flight tickets well in advance, especially during holidays and summer breaks, is highly recommended to secure better prices. From Cebu, the flight duration is even shorter, around 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Direct flights from Davao are less frequent, so travelers from Mindanao might need to connect through Manila or Cebu.

If you prefer a more scenic and budget-friendly journey, traveling by ferry is an option, particularly from Cebu. Super ferries and fast craft services operate regularly between Cebu City port and Tagbilaran City port in Bohol. The ferry trip from Cebu to Tagbilaran typically takes about 2 to 4 hours, depending on the type of vessel. Economy class tickets usually range from PHP 800 to PHP 1,500.

From Tagbilaran City port, you will then need to take a taxi or a tricycle to reach Dauis, which is about a 20-30 minute drive. This option is ideal for those who have more time and want to experience sea travel within the Philippines.

For those who enjoy road trips and have ample time, traveling by land and sea is also possible, though it's a considerably longer journey. From Manila, you would need to travel by bus to a port that offers ferry services to Bohol, such as Batangas or Cagayan de Oro. The bus journey to Batangas port takes about 2-3 hours, and then a ferry to Tagbilaran can take up to 24 hours.

Alternatively, a bus to Cagayan de Oro takes around 20-24 hours, followed by a ferry to Tagbilaran which is about 4-5 hours. This is the least common method for reaching Bohol due to the extensive travel time but can be an adventure for the truly intrepid traveler.

Best Time to Visit Dauis, Panglao Island

The climate in Dauis, Panglao Island, like much of the Philippines, is tropical, characterized by warm temperatures and high humidity year-round. The dry season generally runs from December to May, with the hottest months being April and May. This period is considered peak tourist season, especially from December to February, due to the cooler temperatures and festive atmosphere around Christmas and New Year.

If you enjoy sunny skies, calm seas perfect for island hopping and water sports, and a lively atmosphere, visiting during the dry season is ideal. However, expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices.

The wet season typically spans from June to November. During these months, you can expect more frequent rainfall, often in the form of heavy but short-lived downpours, usually in the afternoon. While there's a higher chance of rain, the wet season also brings lush greenery to the island and fewer tourists. This can be a great time for budget-conscious travelers or those who prefer a more tranquil experience.

The rain doesn't usually disrupt activities for the entire day, and you can often find clear skies in between showers. Traveling during the shoulder months, like June or November, can offer a good balance of decent weather and fewer crowds.

For most Filipino travelers looking for a balance of good weather and manageable crowds, the period from December to March is often recommended. This is when the weather is most pleasant, with lower humidity and less rain.

However, if you are looking to avoid the peak season rush and potentially find better deals on accommodation and flights, consider visiting during the early part of the wet season (June to August) or the late dry season (late April to May), provided you are prepared for occasional rain showers. Ultimately, Panglao Island is beautiful year-round, and the best time to visit depends on your personal preferences for weather, crowds, and budget.

Food and Dining Near Dauis, Panglao Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When you visit Dauis, Panglao Island, prepare your taste buds for a culinary journey that highlights fresh seafood and local flavors. One dish you absolutely must try is Kinilaw na Tanigue, a Filipino ceviche made with fresh Spanish mackerel (tanigue) marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili. The tanginess of the vinegar, combined with the fresh fish and aromatic spices, creates a refreshing appetizer that is perfect for the tropical climate.

You can find excellent versions of this dish in local eateries and restaurants, often served with a side of rice.

Another Boholano specialty that deserves a spot on your must-try list is Peanut Kisses. These are not actual kisses but rather heart-shaped cookies made primarily from ground peanuts and flour, baked until crisp. They are a popular pasalubong (souvenir) from Bohol and have a distinct nutty flavor and satisfying crunch. While not a meal, they are a delightful snack that embodies the local culinary creativity. Look for them in local bakeries and souvenir shops around Panglao.

For seafood lovers, grilled fresh catch is a staple. Many restaurants along the coast offer a selection of fish, squid, and prawns that are grilled to perfection over charcoal. You can often choose your seafood directly from the display, have it cooked to your preference, and enjoy it with a variety of dipping sauces, such as soy sauce with calamansi and chili, or a simple garlic butter.

This is a characteristic dining experience in coastal areas like Panglao, offering simple yet incredibly flavorful dishes that showcase the freshness of the ingredients.

Don't leave Bohol without trying Halo-Halo, the ultimate Filipino dessert. While available throughout the Philippines, Bohol's version often features local ingredients and a generous serving of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It's a perfect way to cool down and indulge your sweet tooth after a day of exploring. Many local carinderias and cafes offer their own unique take on this beloved concoction.

For a truly local experience, seek out smaller eateries where the Halo-Halo is often made with a more traditional touch.

Staffs are accommodating and helpful. The place is under maintenance right now and a little bit far from Alona beach.

Really charming, rustic-themed place with excellent service. Very homey vibe but well-maintained. Lots of choices too in the menu which is really convenient since there are no nearby restaurants and other food places. Staff is knowledgeable and pleasant, they go out of their way to help you with your requests and you can easily book tours through them. Downside though is that the water service gets disrupted a few times so it can be a hassle when it happens and you really want to shower already. But it comes back on in full force after a while. Over-all, super enjoyed our stay here!!

It was a great experience staying in nature. The staff are friendly and accommodating to guest and the food was delicious. What you see in website is the same in actual. The place is awesome and so relaxing. They gave us also a free souvenir keychains. And the price or value is more worth it. Its a place to recommend. A place to visit again.
