Your Travel Guide to Tagaytay City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Tagaytay City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from Manila, the most common and convenient way to reach Tagaytay City is by bus. Several bus companies operate routes from major terminals like Buendia (LRT Gil Puyat) and Cubao. The journey typically takes around 2 to 3 hours, depending on traffic conditions, with fares generally ranging from PHP 150 to PHP 250. This makes it a very accessible option for many Filipinos.

If you prefer to drive, Tagaytay City is accessible via the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then the Silang Bypass Road or Aguinaldo Highway. The travel time from Metro Manila is also around 2 to 3 hours. Toll fees will apply, so it's good to factor this into your budget. Having your own vehicle offers flexibility, especially for exploring various points of interest around Tagaytay.

For those coming from other parts of the Philippines, the most efficient route would likely involve flying into one of the international airports in Metro Manila. From there, you can follow the bus or driving routes mentioned above. To secure the best travel arrangements, consider using Traveloka to book flight tickets and plan your onward journey to Tagaytay City.

Best Time to Visit Tagaytay City

Tagaytay City is a year-round destination, thanks to its cooler climate compared to the lowlands. However, the best time to visit for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. During these months, you can expect sunny days with pleasant temperatures, perfect for outdoor activities and enjoying the scenic views without the interruption of heavy rains.

The months of December to February are particularly popular due to the cooler weather and festive holiday atmosphere. This is also peak season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices. If you prefer a more relaxed visit with fewer people, consider the shoulder months of November and March to April. The rainy season, from May to October, can bring frequent showers, but also lush green landscapes and fewer tourists.

Food and Dining Near Tagaytay City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Tagaytay is complete without indulging in Bulalo, a hearty beef soup with bone marrow. The rich, flavorful broth and tender meat are perfect for Tagaytay's cool weather. Many restaurants in the area specialize in this dish, often serving it piping hot with a side of rice. Look for establishments along the highway or in popular dining areas for a satisfying bowl.

Another local favorite is Sinigang na Baboy or Sinigang na Baka, a sour and savory soup that comes in various iterations depending on the souring agent used, such as tamarind or guava. The tangy broth is a delightful contrast to the richness of the meat and vegetables. It’s a comforting dish that many Filipino households prepare, and Tagaytay offers excellent versions.

For those with a sweet tooth, Tagaytay is known for its fresh strawberries and strawberry-farm-inspired treats. You can visit local farms to pick your own strawberries or enjoy strawberry taho, jams, and pastries. The sweetness of the local strawberries is distinct and a delightful treat to savor. Many cafes and restaurants incorporate them into their desserts.

Finally, don't forget to try Buko Pie, a Filipino coconut custard pie. The creamy filling encased in a flaky crust is a popular pasalubong (take-home gift) and a delicious snack. Several bakeries in and around Tagaytay offer freshly baked Buko Pies, making it easy to pick one up before heading home or to enjoy during your stay.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Tagaytay City

Tagaytay City is generally a safe and welcoming place for Filipino travelers. The local culture is friendly and respectful. When visiting religious sites like churches or mosques, it's customary to dress modestly out of respect. Always be mindful of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, and keep your valuables secure.

For emergencies, it's useful to have the local police hotline number readily available. While Tagaytay is known for its peaceful atmosphere, it's always wise to be prepared. Familiarize yourself with the location of the nearest hospital or clinic in case of any medical needs during your visit.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for getting around Tagaytay and finding your way to different attractions and restaurants. Ride-hailing apps such as Grab are also widely used and can be a convenient way to get from one point to another if you don't have your own vehicle.

Additionally, having a local currency converter app can be helpful for quick calculations, although most transactions in the Philippines are in Philippine Pesos. For booking accommodations and activities, the Traveloka app is your go-to resource, offering a wide selection and easy booking process.

We had to request to be transferred to another room because the shower head on the first one is broken. The staff had to spray something before we enter so the room would smell good but the place is old and lacks maintenance. Thought we would be able to get a room with better ambience for the same price elsewhere.

My stay was great since the location of the hotel was accessible to the things that I wanted to do - having coffee with Taal view, nearby convenience store, and a lot of restaurants around. I just hope my room was located at a higher level maybe on the third floor. Mine was on the second floor therefore my view of Taal was not good. Staff were good, Room was clean and dainty. Overall I will stay again with this hotel.

Glad that we were given a ground floor level family room since we have a senior citizen and PWD with us. The room was just next to the front desk so asking for staff assistance was very easy. Was also delighted to see that for our breakfasts, the staff was thoughtful enough to consider a youngster with us - instead of coffee, he was served with a hot choco and an orange juice for our first and second day breakfast, respectively. One suggestion for improvement though - pls. Consider having heavy/dark drapes in the room instead of light curtains. When we tried to take an afternoon nap, the room was very well lit that it took us a while before we can get some sleep. Other than this one, our over-all stay was very satisfactory. The hotel is in good location, near 7-11, other malls and even a gasoline station.

Our overall stay at New Orleans Auberge Hotel was pleasant - the rooms were clean, staff were courteous, the location of the hotel was very ideal especially in strolling the city. We got the value for money and we'll definitely come back and recommend the hotel

We were given a different room (petit), room is dusty, door on the balcony has no lock, you may feel unsafe. Location is good!

This was really a great experience. The hotel is more than what you can see at the app. It is an ideal hotel if you want to explore Tagaytay City plus it is near mall and other usual place of convenience.
