Your Travel Guide to Pasay as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Pasay from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For many Filipino travelers, arriving in Pasay often begins with a flight into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). From major cities like Cebu, Davao, or Iloilo, flights to Manila typically range from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and how far in advance you book. The flight duration is usually between 1 to 2 hours. Once at NAIA, you can easily take a taxi or a ride-sharing service to your accommodation in Pasay, with fares typically ranging from PHP 200 to PHP 400, depending on traffic and your specific destination.

If you are traveling from Luzon's northern or southern regions, bus travel is a common and economical option. Buses from Baguio, for instance, can take around 5-6 hours and cost approximately PHP 500-700. From Bicol, expect a journey of 8-10 hours with fares around PHP 800-1,200. Major bus terminals in Pasay, such as those along EDSA, are well-connected to the rest of the city via public transport. Planning your book flight can sometimes be more time-efficient and competitive in price.

For those driving from nearby provinces, major expressways like the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) connect to Metro Manila. You will need to navigate through the city's road network to reach Pasay. Toll fees can vary, but budget around PHP 300-500 for round-trip tolls from areas like Pampanga or Laguna. Having your own vehicle offers flexibility, but be prepared for Metro Manila's notorious traffic, especially during peak hours.

Best Time to Visit Pasay

Pasay City, like much of Metro Manila, experiences a tropical climate with two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season generally runs from November to April, offering the most pleasant weather for exploring. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities, shopping, and visiting attractions. Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 35°C.

The wet season, from May to October, brings higher humidity and frequent rainfall, often in the form of heavy afternoon downpours. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower hotel rates, it can disrupt outdoor plans. If you choose to visit during this time, it's wise to have indoor alternatives planned, such as visiting malls, museums, or enjoying the hotel's amenities. Always check the weather forecast before heading out.

For Filipino travelers, the period between November and February is often considered the sweet spot. The weather is generally cooler and less humid, and it coincides with the holiday season, offering a festive atmosphere. However, this is also a peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher prices for flights and accommodation. Visiting during the shoulder months of November or February can offer a good balance of favorable weather and fewer crowds.

Food and Dining Near Pasay — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Pasay and the wider Metro Manila area offer a culinary landscape that reflects the Philippines' diverse influences. When in Pasay, you must try Adobo, the unofficial national dish. Whether it's chicken or pork, slow-cooked in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, its savory and slightly tangy flavor is a comforting taste of home. You can find excellent versions in local eateries and even in some of the larger mall food courts.

Another dish that showcases Filipino ingenuity is Sinigang. This sour and savory soup, typically made with tamarind broth, is packed with meat (pork, beef, or fish) and a variety of vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. Its distinct sourness is incredibly refreshing, especially on a warm day. Many restaurants in Pasay will offer their own take on this beloved soup.

For those seeking something a bit more adventurous, Lechon is a celebratory dish that’s a must-try. This whole roasted pig, with its incredibly crispy skin and succulent meat, is a centerpiece at Filipino gatherings. While a whole lechon might be too much for a solo traveler, many restaurants offer lechon kawali (fried pork belly) or lechon paksiw (lechon simmered in vinegar sauce), which provide a delicious taste of this iconic dish.

Don't leave Pasay without sampling Halo-Halo for dessert. This popular Filipino treat is a delightful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s a perfect way to cool down and indulge your sweet tooth. You'll find numerous stalls and restaurants offering this colorful and refreshing dessert.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Pasay

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals in Pasay, a polite greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. Respect for elders and a generally amiable demeanor are appreciated. While Pasay is a major urban center, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas like markets or public transport.

For safety, it's advisable to keep your valuables secure and be mindful of pickpockets. Avoid displaying expensive items openly. When using taxis or ride-sharing services, ensure the meter is used or the fare is agreed upon beforehand. In case of emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911. It's also a good idea to have the contact details of your hotel readily accessible.

To navigate Pasay and Metro Manila more effectively, several apps can be very useful. Waze or Google Maps are essential for real-time traffic updates and navigation. For transportation, ride-sharing apps like Grab are widely used and offer convenience and transparent pricing. For food delivery, GrabFood or Foodpanda can bring a variety of local and international cuisines right to your doorstep. Lastly, a currency converter app can be helpful for managing your budget.

We stayed unknowing the conditions etc. We arrived porters were there to unload luggage get us our room and anything we needed! Food was 24 hour people were friendly!! Our plane left the next day, after a massive massive free breakfast they met us to get our luggage again and load it into the taxi. The room was clean but could have had a better mattress ext. We will definitely come back just because of the service!!!!!! Something you can’t even get here in the US.

Staff is very friendly. Room is half the size than the pictures shown when booking. Food tray was very dirty, and food was below average. Many stairs, not a lot of lighting, almost fell down the stairs three times. The water is very stinky, probably antique piping/drains.

Covered parking for cars, motorbikes get pushed out of garages for cars, even if we were there first. Should be first come. Have to pay extra for a ref in the room? Lighting in the room is just not enough. No mirror in bathroom?

Had a VIP room. It was not ready when we arrived. Water was barely Luke warm. A/C knobs were broken and not working well.

The shower had zero pressure for water. The toilet seat looked so old it looked like there was poop on the back of it were ur but sits. Only one light blanket no sheets ect. The property it’s self is not unkept. The staff when checking in doesn’t care if u wait or not the lounge are is hot and like a large closet
