Its been really nicely refurbished and great value and location. I would like to say it was peaceful and it would have been, but they were building a new block of rooms in the morning. When this is finished it would be very peaceful and idyllic.

Your Travel Guide to Loboc as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Loboc from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

To reach Loboc from Manila, the most efficient method is to book a flight to Tagbilaran Airport (TAG) in Bohol. Several airlines operate this route, with flight durations typically around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Fares can vary significantly, but booking in advance can help secure more affordable tickets, often ranging from PHP 2,500 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and airline.

From Tagbilaran Airport, you can take a taxi or a pre-arranged van service to Loboc. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour and may cost around PHP 800 to PHP 1,200 for a private transfer. Alternatively, you can take a tricycle to the Tagbilaran bus terminal and catch a local bus heading towards Loboc, which is a more budget-friendly option, costing around PHP 50-100 per person.

If you are traveling from other major cities like Cebu, you can take a ferry to Tagbilaran Port. Ferry trips from Cebu to Tagbilaran usually take about 2 hours, with ticket prices ranging from PHP 800 to PHP 1,500. From the Tagbilaran Port, you would then proceed to Loboc via bus or taxi, similar to arriving from the airport. Planning your book flight and ferry tickets ahead of time is recommended.

For those who prefer to drive, it is possible to reach Bohol via ferry with your vehicle from some ports, or by renting a car upon arrival in Tagbilaran. The road network in Bohol is generally well-maintained, allowing for a scenic drive through the island's towns and countryside. Toll fees are minimal on provincial roads, but rental costs and fuel expenses should be factored into your budget.

Best Time to Visit Loboc

The ideal time to visit Loboc and the wider Bohol region is generally during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and lower chances of rain, making it perfect for outdoor activities like river cruises and exploring the natural landscapes. The weather is typically warm and pleasant, with average temperatures ranging from 28 to 32 degrees Celsius.

The period between December and February is often considered the peak tourist season, especially around the Christmas and New Year holidays. While the weather is excellent, expect larger crowds and potentially higher prices for accommodation and flights. If you prefer a more tranquil visit and potentially better deals, consider the shoulder months of November, March, April, or May.

The wet season, from June to October, brings more frequent rainfall, which can sometimes be heavy and prolonged. While this season is less crowded and offers lower prices, it might disrupt outdoor plans. However, the rain also brings lush greenery to the landscape, and sometimes the showers are brief, allowing for activities to continue. Always check the weather forecast before your trip.

Food and Dining Near Loboc — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Boholano cuisine offers a delightful array of flavors that reflect the island's agricultural bounty and coastal influences. When in Loboc, be sure to try Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish, usually tuna or tanigue, is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, offering a tangy and refreshing taste that is perfect for the tropical climate.

Another local specialty you should seek out is Peanut Kisses. These are not a dish but rather a sweet, crunchy biscuit shaped like the famous Chocolate Hills. They are a popular pasalubong (souvenir) and a delightful treat to enjoy with coffee or as a snack. You can often find them in local markets and souvenir shops around Bohol.

For a more substantial meal, try Grilled Seafood. Given Bohol's location, fresh seafood is abundant. Whether it's fish, prawns, or squid, grilling them with simple marinades of soy sauce, calamansi, and garlic brings out their natural flavors. Many local eateries and restaurants, including those along the Loboc River, will feature these dishes.

Don't leave Bohol without trying SUTUKIL, a popular culinary concept where you choose your fresh seafood, and then decide whether it will be grilled (SUsi), stewed (TUKil), or cooked in a savory broth (KILaw). This interactive dining experience allows you to customize your meal according to your preferences, ensuring a delicious and personalized meal.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Loboc

The people of Loboc, like most Boholanos, are known for their warmth and hospitality. A simple greeting like "Maayong adlaw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) will be appreciated. Respecting local customs, such as dressing modestly when visiting churches and being mindful of noise levels, is important. Boholanos are generally religious, and churches are significant community centers.

When it comes to safety, Bohol is considered one of the safer provinces in the Philippines for tourists. However, it's always wise to exercise standard precautions. Keep your valuables secure, be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit places late at night. For emergencies, the local police hotline is usually 911.

For seamless travel, having a few essential apps on your smartphone can be very helpful. Google Maps is indispensable for navigation, especially if you plan to explore independently. A translation app can assist with communication if you encounter phrases you don't understand. Ride-hailing apps might be limited in Loboc, so having the contact details for local taxis or tricycles is advisable.

Consider downloading a weather app to stay updated on any potential changes in the forecast, particularly during the rainy season. Lastly, having the Traveloka app on your phone will allow you to easily manage your bookings, discover local attractions, and find other services you might need during your stay in Loboc and beyond.

Nipa Hut is a nice spot at the end of a dirt road along the Loboc River. It feels pretty desolate and there's not a lot going on a night -- sun sets early, after which is you, the other travelers and the mosquitos! The location is actually fairly decent; it's close to Chocolate Hills, the Tarsier reservation, and Tagbilaran and Panglao aren't too far away, either. If you're looking for comfort, warm showers and entertainment, Nipa Hut isn't the place for you. If you want to get away from civilization for a little bit, then it's great. I would recommend renting one of Nipa Hut's scooters and going exploring. There are some cool little villages along the south coast. Panglao is also worth a drive for a day of beaching.

The place feels run down and is very basic however, it does a job and was the best place we felt on offer in Loboc. I would say you definitely need your own transport as its a good 2km walk down a dirt road from the Main Street which is also another 3km down from the main town. The little huts had a hammock and little seating area outside which was nice and it was lovely and quiet and chilled there. If you want food just let them know in advance but it was tasty and the firefly boat trip is a must, really amazing. There is no wifi and the place needs some tlc but the guy who worked there was kind and also sorted out scooter hire for us. There is also a fridge you can store stuff in which was handy.

What I really liked about Nipa Hut Village was the location directly at the river in the jungle! It was also nice that they have free drinking water and you can order food there for little money. The choice is not big but it was good (they have something vegetarian!). The room was very small and luckily the bed has a mosquito net, because there a lots of mosquitos and other animals like lizards for example.. The bathroom was quite horrible, not really clean and the shower with very low pressure and even switched off a couple of times when the neighbours used the water. I don't want to talk about the toilet... You will need a motorbike because it's quite far from everything but you can rent it there for a good price. It's okay to stay for 1 or 2 nights, then you will probably be happy to change.

No access to transportation toilet inches above the floor,no food available, huts in rough shape. The only plus was the fantastic location.
