What Guests Say About Their Stay

My flight was delayed so I didn’t arrive until 5am but I was able to get access as the owner got out of bed to let me in and was very friendly. It’s a very very basic accommodation but it is clean and I managed to get a few decent hours of sleep between flights. It’s also only a 10 min ride to the airport so really convenient if you are using it just to get some rest between journeys. It’s not in an area where I would of gone out had I had more time but it didn’t feel unsafe and I am a lone female travelling. The owner and who I think was her daughter were extremely friendly and helpful and organised a taxi for me back to the airport the next day. I would stay here again if I only needed another layover stop.

Your Travel Guide to Pasay as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Pasay from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipinos traveling from other parts of the country, flying into Pasay is the most practical option. Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is located within Pasay City itself. Flight prices can vary significantly depending on the origin city, time of booking, and airline, but budget carriers often offer fares starting from PHP 1,500 to PHP 3,000 for round trips from major hubs like Cebu or Davao. Booking your flight in advance through Traveloka can help secure better rates and ensure a smooth journey.

If you are traveling from nearby provinces in Luzon, bus travel is a viable and economical alternative. Major bus terminals in Pasay serve routes from various regions, including Northern and Central Luzon. Bus fares typically range from PHP 500 to PHP 1,500, depending on the distance and bus company. Travel times can range from 4 to 10 hours or more. This option is suitable for those who prefer land travel or are looking for a more budget-friendly way to reach Metro Manila.

For those driving from within Metro Manila or nearby provinces, Pasay is accessible via major expressways and road networks. The South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the Metro Manila Skyway provide direct access. Toll fees will apply, varying based on the entry and exit points. Navigating Pasay can be challenging due to traffic, especially during peak hours, so it's advisable to use GPS navigation apps and allow ample travel time. Understanding the road network and potential traffic conditions is key for a smooth drive.

Best Time to Visit Pasay

Pasay City, like much of Metro Manila, experiences a tropical climate with two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season, typically from November to April, offers generally sunny days and lower humidity, making it a popular time for both local and international tourists. Temperatures during this period can range from 25°C to 35°C. This is an ideal time for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions without the frequent interruption of heavy rainfall.

The wet season runs from May to October and is characterized by higher humidity and frequent rainfall, often in the form of heavy afternoon downpours. While this season might deter some outdoor plans, it also brings fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices. For travelers who don't mind occasional rain and are looking for a more relaxed pace, visiting during the wet season can still be very rewarding. It's always wise to pack an umbrella and be prepared for sudden weather changes, regardless of the season.

Food and Dining Near Pasay — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to the Philippines is complete without indulging in Adobo, the unofficial national dish. This savory and tangy stew, typically made with chicken or pork braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a staple in Filipino households and restaurants. In Pasay, you can find excellent Adobo in local eateries and even in some of the larger dining establishments. Its comforting flavors are a taste of home for many Filipinos and a delightful introduction for first-time visitors.

Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, is another must-try Filipino comfort food. Made with a tamarind base (though other souring agents like guava or calamansi can be used), it's usually filled with meat (pork, beef, fish, or shrimp) and a variety of vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. The distinct sourness is incredibly refreshing, especially on a warm day. Many carinderias and restaurants in Pasay will offer their own version of this beloved soup.

For those with a sweet tooth, Halo-Halo is the ultimate Filipino dessert. This popular iced concoction is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It's a visually appealing and deliciously refreshing treat, perfect for cooling down after a day of exploring. You'll find numerous stalls and cafes in Pasay serving this iconic dessert, each with its unique presentation and ingredient combinations.

Finally, don't leave Pasay without trying Lechon, a whole roasted pig known for its incredibly crispy skin and succulent meat. While a whole lechon is often reserved for special occasions, many restaurants offer Lechon Kawali (fried pork belly) or Lechon Paksiw (pork roasted and then simmered in its own sauce) as more accessible options. The rich, savory flavor and the satisfying crunch of the skin make it a truly indulgent Filipino culinary experience.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Pasay

Filipino culture is generally warm and hospitable. Greetings are important; a simple "Magandang umaga/hapon/gabi" (Good morning/afternoon/evening) goes a long way. When visiting churches like Baclaran Church, dress modestly out of respect. Filipinos are generally understanding of tourists, but showing politeness and respect for local customs will enhance your interactions. Learning a few basic Tagalog phrases can also be appreciated by locals.

Pasay, being a major urban center, requires travelers to be aware of their surroundings. It's advisable to keep valuables secure and out of sight, especially in crowded areas or public transport. Be cautious of overly friendly strangers offering unsolicited help, as they might have ulterior motives. For emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911. It's also wise to have the contact details of your hotel readily available and to inform someone of your itinerary.

To navigate Pasay and Metro Manila more effectively, several apps are highly recommended. Grab is essential for booking rides (cars and motorcycles) and food delivery, offering convenience and transparent pricing. Waze or Google Maps are crucial for navigation, helping you avoid traffic jams and find your way around the city. For communication, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are widely used by Filipinos to stay connected. Having these apps installed can significantly streamline your travel experience.

When it comes to transactions, be prepared for a mix of cash and digital payments. While credit cards are accepted in malls and larger establishments, smaller shops, local eateries, and public transport often require cash. It's a good idea to carry some Philippine Pesos (PHP) with you at all times. For digital payments, apps like GCash and Maya are very popular among Filipinos and can be used for various transactions, though setting them up might require a local SIM card.

Vi ankom kl.02 i manila lufthavn, og havde layover. Vores taxichauffør spurgte om det virkelig var her vi skulle bo. Områder var lidt sketchy, når man kommer sent om aftenen. Værelset var okay.

The written address was very different from Google Map and was difficult to find. It was very helpful that you drove me to the airport. Thank you very much.
