Your Travel Guide to Baler as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Baler from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

Traveling to Baler from Metro Manila is a popular route for many Filipinos. The most common method is by bus, with several companies operating daily trips from terminals in Cubao and Pasay. Expect to pay between PHP 500 to PHP 800 for a one-way ticket, and the journey typically takes about 5 to 6 hours. Booking your bus tickets in advance, especially during peak seasons, is advisable.

For those looking for a faster, though more expensive, option, you can book flight tickets to the Baler airport. However, flight availability can be limited and schedules may vary. If you are coming from other major Philippine cities, you might need to connect through Manila. Consider using Traveloka to compare flight options and book your flight to Manila, then arrange your onward bus journey to Baler.

Driving your own vehicle offers flexibility, especially if you plan to explore beyond Baler town proper. The route from Manila involves major expressways like NLEX and SCTEX, followed by provincial roads. The scenic route through the Sierra Madre mountains is breathtaking but requires careful driving. Factor in fuel costs and potential toll fees, which can range from PHP 500 to PHP 1000 depending on your starting point and route.

Best Time to Visit Baler

The ideal time for Filipino travelers to visit Baler is generally from November to March. During these months, the weather is typically drier, with less rainfall and calmer seas, making it perfect for surfing and other beach activities. The temperatures are pleasant, ranging from the mid-20s to low 30s Celsius, offering comfortable conditions for exploration and relaxation.

However, this period also coincides with the peak tourist season, meaning accommodations and attractions might be more crowded and prices could be higher. If you prefer a more tranquil experience and don't mind occasional rain showers, consider visiting during the shoulder months of April to May or September to October. These times offer a good balance of decent weather and fewer crowds.

For surfers, the months of September to March are often considered prime time due to the consistent swells. However, even during the typhoon season (roughly June to October), Baler can still be visited, though with caution. Always check weather forecasts before and during your trip, and be prepared for potential changes in plans due to weather conditions.

It’s a perfect snack or breakfast item, readily available from local vendors and eateries, providing a simple yet satisfying taste of Filipino tradition.

For seafood lovers, Baler offers an abundance of fresh catches. Grilled fish, **Kinilaw** (Filipino ceviche), and various shellfish are prepared with local flavors. take advantage of this on trying **Adobong Pugita** (octopus adobo), a regional variation that offers a chewy texture and a rich, savory sauce that’s evidence of Filipino cooking techniques.

Finally, explore the local markets for **Baler Longganisa**, a distinctively flavored sausage that’s a popular breakfast choice. Its unique blend of spices and sweetness makes it a memorable local delicacy. Pair it with garlic fried rice and a fried egg for a classic Filipino breakfast experience that energizes you for a day of adventure.

It is located close to the beach. Although there is no restaurant in the hotel, you can eat at nearby resorts. The room we got was Room No. 2 and it is very spacious. The airconditioning was ok, although it can get really cold at night. Good thing the unit has a timer. Kudos to Mark, the owner, and the staff for maintaining the place.

This inn is located right next to the beach & surfing area. The inn also has its own private parking space. When we arrived, we were greeted with smiles from the friendly & very accommodating staff. Breakfast was included in our room rate & was delivered to our room each morning, to our pleasant surprise! The bed & blankets in our room were so comfy. WiFi works very well on the property & in the rooms. The staff here was accommodating and helpful to begin with, but they went above & beyond when our car died at Dicasalarin Cove (which was quite a drive away) & they came to fetch us to jump start our car. The next day, they called someone from the repair shop to service our car at the hotel grounds – excellent customer service all around! The people who own & run this place are absolutely lovely, kind people.

Pacific Waves is recommended for families who want to have good rest for a reasonable price. The inn allows their guests to cook simple meals for a minimum fee. The rooms are not new but clean and can accommodate 4-6 persons. It's proximity to the beach makes it an ideal inn for surfers and tourists whose priority is to ride the waves or tour more than enjoy hotel facilities and activities. We only needed a place to sleep in at night and to rest in between items in our tour's itinerary. We got exactly this plus good customer service. Towels are available upon request. Complimentary breakfast is convenient but not spectacular. I also noticed a group of guests was allowed to stay with their pet dog. Note that this inn is not for you if you are traveling for business or looking for 3-star (or more) hotel facilities.

We booked a standard room with a double bed only. The resort staff say there is no room like that, I'm guessing that is on Expedia side of not knowing the property.

One of the beds had stains. The toilet flush wasn't working. No toiletries or towels. The front desk couldn't find my booking. So many wrongs with this property. AVOID.

Beach was literally just a hop away which was really good. The area could use some renovation to make it look more attractive. You get the value out of the price you pay. Wifi is good for remote work.

This is one of the most unsanitary places I’ve been in. The toilet looked unclean and the bed had a few critters on them. It had lack of electricity (no microwave, bad wifi service unless you’re on the second level). There was another resort beside us which had all necessities. Would be better to book a stay there.

For the price, the amenities and facilities are clean and working. It's a little bit rundown, but there's a newer annex building but a bit further from the beachfront. short distance away from Costa and other establishments.

It was comfortable and clean although we experience brownout on our first day. Overall, we were satisfied.

We booked smoothly at online, no problem with check-in... Unfortunately its hard to communicate as receptionist is not always available in the area. We need to contact thru call/message if we need something though they answer fast... towel upon request, toiletries available only tissue... advantage: very near beach, near city proper disadvantage: just for sleep, not for relaxation, limited facilities
