Your Travel Guide to Bagabag as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Bagabag from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

Traveling to Bagabag from Manila primarily involves a land journey. Numerous bus companies offer direct or connecting routes to Nueva Vizcaya, with many passing through or stopping in Bagabag. The trip typically takes between 8 to 10 hours, with fares generally ranging from PHP 800 to PHP 1,200, depending on the bus company and service class. For those seeking a quicker initial transit, you can book flight tickets to Cauayan Airport (CYZ) in Isabela or Tuguegarao Airport (TUG) in Cagayan, which are the closest major airports. From these airports, you would then need to arrange for bus or van transport to Bagabag, which can add several hours to your journey.

Alternatively, if you prefer to drive your own vehicle, Bagabag is accessible via the Pan-Philippine Highway. The drive from Metro Manila is approximately 7 to 9 hours, covering a distance of around 350-400 kilometers. This route offers scenic views of the Philippine countryside. Toll fees will apply along expressways leading out of Manila and potentially on other national roads. Having your own car provides flexibility for exploring the surrounding areas of Nueva Vizcaya at your own pace.

For travelers coming from other major Philippine cities like Cebu or Davao, the most efficient way to reach Bagabag would be to book flight tickets to Manila first. From Manila, you can then proceed with the bus journey or drive to Nueva Vizcaya as described above. This multi-leg travel plan allows you to connect to the northern Luzon region effectively, even if you're starting from a different part of the archipelago.

Best Time to Visit Bagabag

The climate in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya, is generally pleasant throughout the year, but certain periods offer a more ideal travel experience. The dry season, typically from November to April, is considered the best time to visit. During these months, you can expect sunny days and lower chances of rainfall, making it perfect for outdoor activities and exploring the natural attractions of the region. Temperatures are moderate, providing comfortable conditions for sightseeing.

The months of December to February are particularly appealing due to cooler temperatures, offering a refreshing respite. This period also coincides with the holiday season, where you might find local festivities and a generally cheerful atmosphere. However, it's also considered peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices. Booking your stay in advance is recommended during these months.

The wet season, from May to October, brings more frequent rainfall. While this can mean lush, green landscapes, it also poses a risk of travel disruptions due to heavy downpours or typhoons, especially in the later months. If you don't mind occasional rain showers and are looking for fewer crowds and potentially lower prices, visiting during the shoulder months of the wet season, like May or October, could still be a good option. Always check weather forecasts before your trip.

Food and Dining Near Bagabag — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When in Bagabag and the wider Nueva Vizcaya region, Filipino travelers have the opportunity to savor local flavors that reflect the province's agricultural bounty. One dish you should definitely seek out is **Pinikpikan**. This traditional Cordilleran dish, often prepared with chicken, involves a unique process of beating the chicken before cooking, which is said to enhance its flavor and tenderness. It's typically stewed with vegetables like etag (smoked pork) and ginger, offering a hearty and savory experience.

Another local specialty to try is **Sinangag na Kanin**, or garlic fried rice, which is a staple in Filipino breakfasts and a common accompaniment to many meals. While simple, the local preparation often uses fresh garlic and is cooked to perfection, providing a fragrant and satisfying start to your day. You'll find this readily available at most eateries and restaurants in the area, including the one at Palaisdaan Hotel and Restaurant.

When dining out, consider trying **Adobong Manok or Baboy**, a universally loved Filipino dish that showcases the country's national flavor profile of soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. While variations exist across regions, the local preparation in Nueva Vizcaya often highlights fresh ingredients. Exploring the local eateries and carinderias will give you the most authentic taste of the region's culinary offerings.

Very much a budget hotel. The only one in Bagabag so I wasn't expecting much, and I got it. Their main business comes from locals, not tourists, even though it's a great location to jump off from, for highway 109 and 110 (south & west respectively. The mountain drives are awesome. So weddings are a mainstay for the hotel, but the wedding began at 3am!!!! All the wedding party and photographers, set construction etc, up making noise from 3am! I think the hotel are happier to ask forgiveness rather than permission. Then there was: no sheets on the beds, just throw rugs - small - normal for the location, but not for a westerner who's used to sheets at least; cockroaches, but not every night, VERY noisy a/c; beds and fixtures in disrepair; nowhere to hang towels in the bathroom; no shelf for toiletries; not all the electric switches work; TV worked but it was highly damaged such that you couldn't watch it. The staff are good though, and the water lilies magnificent. Easy to catch a tricycle out front, but don't pay too much: 50 pesos into Bagabag as at March 2025, and 200 pesos into Solano. Bagabag is a great place to soak up the genuine Filipino culture though. Expect friendly people.

Many small issues: towel rack falling of the wall, no place to put suitcases, dog poop on the paths, restaurant closed or only open for one hour in the evening, tv wouldn’t work etc. etc.

I didn’t feel a senior citizen like me and my wife are safe at the time we arrived at the resort so we left. The guest parking is not clean and no lighting that will ensure our safety.

Needs a lot of improvement. Need staff to help with luggage, no room utensils e.g. cups and glasses, etc. overall average, there’s room for improvements. 😊

Great location near Bagabag, but parts of hotel under construction and sparse bedding. Overall clean and decent for the price.

Surroundings are nice . They don’t clean your room door empty your garbage. Food is good. Staff are okay. They need little bit of customer service specially the one managing the place.

Very few regular staff , all are students doing the cleaning housekeeping. They should be the one having the credits not the owner

Perfect for our family visit in the mountain province. Near Solano for shopping and local shops in Bagabag for food and other things. Great location for us.
