Your Travel Guide to Pasay as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Pasay from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For many Filipinos, the most common way to reach Pasay from other major cities in the Philippines is by air, given its proximity to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). Flights from Cebu, Davao, or other key urban centers typically land at NAIA, placing you very close to Pasay. Fares can vary significantly based on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, but budget airlines often offer competitive rates, sometimes starting from PHP 2,000 to PHP 5,000 for round trips.

If you are traveling from nearby provinces or regions within Luzon, taking a bus is a more economical option. Numerous bus companies operate routes to Pasay, with terminals strategically located to serve travelers. Bus fares are generally much lower than airfare, often ranging from PHP 500 to PHP 1,500 depending on the origin city and bus class. The travel time can be longer, but it offers a chance to see more of the countryside.

For those driving their own vehicles or renting a car, Pasay is accessible via major expressways and road networks. If coming from the north, you would typically use the Skyway or EDSA. From the south, the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) connects to the Metro Manila road system. Be prepared for potential toll fees, which can add up, and factor in Metro Manila's notorious traffic, especially during peak hours, which can significantly extend your travel time.

Best Time to Visit Pasay

Pasay experiences a tropical climate, with two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season, generally from November to April, is considered the most pleasant time to visit. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city. Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 33°C, offering comfortable weather for sightseeing.

The wet season runs from May to October. While this period brings rainfall, it doesn't necessarily mean constant downpours. Showers are often heavy but short-lived, typically occurring in the afternoon. Visiting during the wet season can mean fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices, offering a different kind of travel experience. It's advisable to carry an umbrella or raincoat if you plan your trip during these months.

For the best balance of good weather and manageable crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months of the dry season, such as November or February. These periods often provide pleasant weather without the peak tourist numbers that can occur around major holidays like Christmas or Holy Week. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Pasay offers a dynamic urban environment with plenty to discover.

Food and Dining Near Pasay — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Metro Manila is complete without indulging in its diverse culinary landscape, and Pasay offers access to a wide array of Filipino favorites. One dish you absolutely must try is Adobo, the unofficial national dish. Whether it's chicken or pork, the savory and slightly tangy flavor profile, achieved through soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a comforting taste of home for many Filipinos. You can find excellent versions in local eateries and even in some of the larger dining establishments in the area.

Another staple that represents Filipino comfort food is Sinigang. This sour and savory soup, typically made with tamarind broth, is packed with meat (pork, beef, or fish) and a variety of vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. The distinct sourness is incredibly refreshing and pairs perfectly with steamed rice. Many restaurants in Pasay will feature this beloved soup on their menus, offering a warm and hearty meal.

For those with a sweet tooth, Halo-Halo is a characteristic Filipino dessert that is a must-try, especially in the warmer months. This colorful concoction is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s a refreshing and visually appealing treat that offers a burst of different textures and flavors in every spoonful. Look for it in local dessert shops or even in some casual dining spots.

Finally, don't leave Pasay without trying Lechon. While often associated with celebrations, many restaurants offer Lechon Kawali (crispy fried pork belly) or other preparations that allow you to savor this rich and flavorful dish. The crispy skin and succulent meat are a true indulgence, representing a significant part of Filipino culinary heritage. Exploring these dishes will give you a genuine taste of the Philippines.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Pasay

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals in Pasay, a friendly demeanor and a smile go a long way. It's customary to show respect to elders, and using polite terms like "po" and "opo" when speaking to them is appreciated. While generally a safe city, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas like markets or public transport hubs.

For your safety, keep your valuables secure and be mindful of pickpockets. Avoid displaying expensive items openly. It's also advisable to use reputable transportation services, such as metered taxis or well-known ride-sharing apps. In case of emergencies, know the local emergency numbers. Having a basic understanding of these cultural nuances and safety precautions will enhance your travel experience in Pasay.

To make your trip smoother, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for getting around Metro Manila. Ride-sharing apps such as Grab are widely used for convenient and often more affordable transportation compared to traditional taxis. For communication, ensure you have a messaging app like WhatsApp or Viber installed, as many Filipinos use these for staying connected. Having these tools readily available will help you navigate Pasay with greater ease and confidence.

Caretaker is very rude, we wait for 30 mins at the lobby, to think that we call all the contact numbers provided; Upon our arrival from the airport, and no one care to answer, didn't bother to inform us on what bldg/cluster/unit number they are going to billet us. Maybe they are in the wrong industry, they don't understand what hospitality means. And the caretaker want to leave the trash at the room. And just take it at 9am at his convenience. What the f***. Please don't stay at this property, We strongly advised not to stay at this unit, you will encounter the worse hospitality you've ever been.

The location is very convenient if you're in transit/travel through Terminal 3 because it is just across the street. When you walked around Newport City Boulevard there are a lot of restaurants, mini mart, laundry and some Watson branches so no need to go the mall. Kuya Eddie, who is the caretaker of the unit was friendly, helpful and approachable. Although it was stated that there was a free wifi, we weren't able to use it because it seems that the broadband doesn't have anymore data. So far our overall stay was better than what we expected. I hope they will provide a microwave in the future. We will definitely book again (provided that they have a legit free wifi):) Thank you!

We had an great stay and the location was awesome given that each of us had different flight schedules. Though I do have a few concerns. The AC took too long to cool the room even at maximum setting. Also since the room was advertised to accommodate 4 persons, additional beddings should have been provided. Also as a suggestion, change the way the shower door opens. It swings inward and would make it difficult for larger persons to get in and out of the shower. Provide also a soap rack in the shower. All in all, the prime location and available appliance made the stay worth it. Would come back.

we arrived quite tired after long travel from south.at Palmtree. there, a guy guide us for 5 minutes walk outside and across the main road, into a different, older complex named Sarasay. He brought us at the second floor in a old apartment with only one matrimonial bed. when we asked what's going on he said our original triple room was overbooked and given to other people. I asked "what about the third bed?" and he pointed at the black leather sofa! It took 10minutes to convince him at least to bring some bed linen. he showed up with a single comforter to use as bottom and top (just fold it..). forget the pillow. It was so near the busy main street that we could not rest properly. Absolutely a full shame and no apologies from the owner (he only let us know through his guy that if we want we could go for other hotel. Wow, at 8pm (yes, because we arrived at 6.30 but all that mess took away more then one hour of our precious time) , with a 4 yrs kid, travelling from 4am, we were not in a mood to go around near airport to find another room! And when we tried to contact traveloka nobody was answering our call. So, probably last time with traveloka, for sure first and last time with palmtree. What a shame.

It is quite convenient if you have to transit, there is sky bridge to T3 and there is a shuttle bus to T1 and T2

It’s an ideal place to stay esp if you have an early flight because the condominium is walking distance from the airport. The room is clean and they have friendly staffs. Security is not questionable.

Great stay. Building staff was very accommodating. Edwin was our contact here for the owner, very nice guy. He made sure that the check in went smoothly. He even carried the bags. Unit is in walking distance of NAIA Terminal 3 via Runway Manila. Nice balcony. Amazing pool. All in all it was a very amazing stay. I will definitely be back again on my next trip to Philippines.

we arrived quite tired after long travel from south.at Palmtree. there, a guy guide us for 5 minutes walk outside and across the main road, into a different, older complex named Sarasay.
