My home away from home
I have been staying in Palm Woods when I am in General Santos City. It is strategically located at the heart of the city, with just a few minutes walk from SM. In case you prefer to ride a tricycle, you may request the staff to get one for you. The room rates are very reasonable, ranging from 600 Pesos for single rooms and 850 for twin deluxe. Rooms are very clean and smell fresh. You may also request for daily house keeping. It is advisable to bring own toiletries however. As a budget inn, they only provide toilet paper and a small piece of soap. Breakfast is available but choices are limited. Wifi is available but connectivity is a concern.

Fine if u're on a budget
Our room was on the third floor and they didn't have an elevator. Also, they didn't have an intercom inside the room so if we needed to ask something from the front desk, we had to go down all the way from the third floor. Also, the blanket is just a very thin sheet of white cloth. Pretty useless. There's wifi in the room, at least. If you can afford it, I would suggest going somewhere else.

A Quiet and Modest Pension House Located Near Conveniences
If you are travelling on a budget, this might be something yo consider. It is tucked away in a quiet, mostly residential area of General Santos City which means you get peace and quiet. Not that the rooms are sound-proof, but most of the guests keep to their own. However, the place is but only two blocks or five minutes walk to a mall, the SM City General Santos. Quiet place yet close to convenience of a mall. There are several major banks like Banco De Oro, Bank of the Philippine Islands and Metrobank with ATM nearby. For those with a vehicle, parking is available for about 4 or 5 cars or SUV's. And there's one security watchman stationed at the hotel door, overseeing the vehicles, including those parked on the quiet street. It helps to know there is a Shell fuel station nearby too. I didn't try any of the food. Strange though. They put a menu in the room but there is no phone in the room to call out to order. So I guess that's for info purposes only that a small cafe is downstairs. And I think the price is just about the same as a fast food chain at the mall. The place has only three floors. So expect no elevator. The room has no closets. (small minus points) Only clothes hangers and a small "bench" which doubles as a place to put your luggage or backpack. But my luggage is big and could get off-balance so I just put my luggage on the floor. My colleague has a backpack so it fits on the "bench" on his side. There is a center table in this Twin Deluxe Room. It has two drinking glasses on it in a small tray. And there is a wall outlet for two plugs convenient for charging mobile phones or laptops. The bed and pillow are generally comfortable. Before my arrival, I expected the room to be provided with a blanket but it is as expected actually a thin bed sheet. I brought my own warm cotton-wool blanket. No key card. Just a standard door knob with lock and a chain latch. The TV is a 20-something inch LED with a nice lineup of cable channels. The air conditioner is a window type Samsung that cools adequately and can get cold. (The blanket that I brought with me as I mentioned earlier comes in really useful here.) The bathroom has a water heater. And water pressure is strong. However, the water is sourced from ground water and soap and shampoo will lather only if you scrub a bit more than usual. The room also has towels and two small pieces of soap that smell like mild laundry detergent soap. Think Wheel or Perla. But it didn't matter too much as I used it only to wash my hands and for bathing I brought my own soap. Smoking is prohibited in all the rooms and guests will need to go outside the place to light up. I quit smoking several years ago so that was not an issue for me. I did get some old-school doughnuts from a nearby bakery and brought it to the room. I ate most of the donuts and left one for later. But after an hour, I discovered red ants swarming all over it and had to get rid of the doughnut and wipe off the table and wall to get rid of the ants that seem to have come from a crevice in the wall. (large minus points here) Wi-fi is available free. All you need is a password from the front desk. The Internet is fast and responsive. There was a 90-minute downtime I experienced one early evening. But the wi-fi came back and all is well. And I am using the wi-fi to get this review in here. Overall, the stay was good and comfortable. That's because I brought my own blanket and soap. The ants were the big spoiler of the stay. Rates as of this posting: Single Deluxe 600.00 1 double bed Twin Standard 750.00 2 single beds Twin Deluxe 850.00 2 single beds Matrimonial 850.00 1 queen size bed Family Room 1,150.00 1 single & 1 double bed, good for 3 Additional person 100.00 Additional person with bedding 200.00
