It was a great one night stay with Paragon Tower. The rooms are big and clean. We booked family rooms. And we are 8 pax each room. It should be only 6 per room. But we added 2 more each room. The lady in the reception (i forgot her name) she is the best! She accommodated us with a smile and fixed our rooms so we can all stay there. May God bless you. Paragon Tower. Thank you and see you next year! We’ll be booking the same rooms. 😍

Your Travel Guide to Manila as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Manila from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers within the Philippines, flying into Manila is often the most efficient method. Major airlines operate frequent flights to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from key cities like Cebu, Davao, and Palawan. Fares can vary significantly based on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, but budget airlines often offer fares starting from PHP 1,500 to PHP 3,000 for a one-way trip. Flight durations typically range from 1 to 2 hours.

For those traveling from nearby provinces in Luzon, bus travel is a common and economical choice. Numerous bus companies ply routes to Metro Manila, with terminals located strategically across the city. Fares are generally affordable, ranging from PHP 500 to PHP 1,500 depending on the origin city and the type of bus service (e.g., executive or regular). Travel times can range from 4 to 10 hours.

Driving to Manila is also an option for those with their own vehicles. Major expressways like the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) connect the capital to various regions. Be prepared for potential traffic congestion, especially as you approach the city center, and factor in toll fees, which can add up depending on your starting point.

Best Time to Visit Manila

Manila experiences a tropical climate with two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season, typically from November to April, offers the most pleasant weather for exploring the city. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity and comfortable temperatures, making it ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing.

The period between December and February is often considered the peak tourist season due to the cooler temperatures and festive holiday atmosphere. While the weather is excellent, expect larger crowds at popular attractions and potentially higher prices for accommodation and flights. Booking your travel arrangements in advance is highly recommended during this time.

The wet season runs from May to October. While this period is characterized by frequent rainfall, including occasional typhoons, it also brings fewer crowds and potentially lower travel costs. The rain showers are often heavy but short-lived, and you can still enjoy many indoor attractions and dining experiences. Traveling during the shoulder months of May or October can offer a good balance of favorable weather and fewer tourists.

Food and Dining Near Manila — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Manila is complete without indulging in Adobo, the unofficial national dish. This savory and tangy stew, typically made with chicken or pork braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a staple in Filipino households and restaurants. Its comforting flavors and rich history make it a must-try for any local or visiting Filipino.

Another essential dish is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup that comes in various forms, most commonly with pork, beef, or seafood. The distinct sourness, usually derived from tamarind, is balanced by a medley of fresh vegetables. It’s a hearty and flavorful soup that perfectly complements the local palate, especially on a cooler or rainy day.

For those seeking a taste of grilled perfection, Lechon is an absolute delight. This whole roasted pig, with its incredibly crispy skin and succulent meat, is a celebratory dish often found at parties and gatherings. While a whole lechon might be too much for a solo traveler, many restaurants offer lechon kawali (fried pork belly) or lechon manok (roasted chicken) as delicious alternatives.

Don't leave Manila without trying Halo-Halo for dessert. This popular Filipino treat is a delightful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s a refreshing and visually appealing dessert that offers a burst of flavors and textures, perfect for cooling down after a meal.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Manila

Filipinos are known for their warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals, a polite greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. Respect for elders is deeply ingrained, so using "po" and "opo" when speaking to older individuals is customary. Be mindful of personal space in crowded areas and always ask permission before taking photos of people.

When navigating Manila, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded public places like markets and transport hubs. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. It's advisable to use reputable transportation services, such as those booked through apps or official taxi stands. For emergencies, remember that the national emergency number is 911.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. Grab is indispensable for ride-hailing and food delivery, offering a convenient way to get around and dine. Google Maps is crucial for navigation, providing real-time traffic updates and directions. For communication, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are widely used by locals to stay connected.

Familiarizing yourself with basic Filipino phrases can also enrich your interactions. Learning simple greetings, asking for directions, and expressing gratitude will be appreciated by locals and can lead to more engaging conversations. Having these tools and knowledge at your disposal will help you feel more confident and prepared as you explore the city.

. I think they did not thoroughly clean the room, the cabinets, and the bed sides are dusty as if not cleaned for a long time, and the sheets are not well washed, as if repeatedly used without washing, it stinks. The curtain in the bathroom has black molds. Overall the room needs to be cleaned so that it will smell good.

Resort is dated and needed lots of repairs, but new owner was there. We were the only guests. Asked for Pool Towels, was told use bath towels. Being the only guests and we rented 2 rooms I would expect a little more. Windows had leaks, water seeping in doors, room AC barely cooling. No premium channels, Netflix, or Anything. No room fridge, but other rooms did. Charged for extra mattress. 600 p. Breakfast was for 2 yet we had 2 full size beds and 5 guests per room. Taxis didn't know where the Hotel was located. The new owner has big plans for the Resort. Looking forward to see the changes.

Our stay was great! However, the first 10-second experience was a bit unpleasant. The doorman seemed not very welcoming, I don’t know is it because we arrived in a single motorcycle not a in a chevy, I’m not sure but we were asking where could we park, and the doorman/security asked “are we staying long?” In an unpleasant tone, and told us to park somewhere else. I could say, that he is not very helpful or he is not happy with his job. In spite of that, I am pleased to say that the receptionist and the concierge was indeed helpful, smiling and friendly.

Strategic location, close to Rizal Park, looking for easy food. Friendly and very helpful service. Had power failure but not long. You can leave your bag / suitcase before checking in and after checking out. Very satisfied and will return.

Room was spacious. Was just a bit concerned of tiny ants going around. The room needs an upgrade esp the AC. Bathroom was huge but they could do away with the bathtub since it doesn't have a stopper. It's more dangerous to take a shower on a bathtub rather than ordinary tile floors. There are barely any plugs. None near the table where it could've been useful. There's just a pair of plugs near one side of the bed, and another in the bathroom. Staff were okay, though. Helpful and courteous. There were just a couple of times that the housekeeping staff failed to clean the room especially the mugs we used which, when we came back in the room, were filled with ants.

The hotel room was spacious. It’s near everything and accessible. Just had a few tiny details... there were lots of tiny ants on the table. Saw a cockroach in the bathroom, too. Just two sets of outlets; one is in the bathroom.

Spacious room but old. Not so clean. Still, I had a good stay. Shower was too hot even adjusted.

Location is great, staffs are amazing, but the thing that disappoint me is the room, it’s because there’s a-lot of tiny cockroaches in the room.. and whenever you go to the toilet there's some baby cockroaches in the toilet bowl and before I check out I killed some cockroaches and I left them on the floor
