Your Travel Guide to San Vicente as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to San Vicente from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to San Vicente from Manila and other major Philippine cities is most efficiently done by air. The primary gateway is San Vicente Airport (SWL), which receives flights from Manila. The flight duration is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book, but budget-friendly options can often be found.

Alternatively, you can fly into Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS), which is a larger airport with more flight options. From Puerto Princesa, you would then take a van or bus to San Vicente, a journey of about 3 to 4 hours.

For those preferring a land and sea journey, or if flying into a different Palawan airport, bus travel is an option. From Manila, you can take a bus to Batangas port, then a ferry to Calapan, Mindoro, followed by another bus to Roxas, Palawan, and finally a van or bus to San Vicente. This route is considerably longer, taking over 24 hours, but can be a more economical choice for some. The cost for bus and ferry combinations can range from PHP 2,000 to PHP 4,000, depending on the class of service.

If you are traveling from other parts of Luzon, you might consider driving to Batangas port and taking the ferry to Mindoro, then continuing by land. For those already in Palawan, such as Puerto Princesa or El Nido, vans are the most common mode of transport to San Vicente. These vans typically depart frequently and offer a relatively quick journey. To ensure a seamless trip, it's always a good idea to book flight tickets and any necessary onward travel well in advance, especially during peak seasons.

Best Time to Visit San Vicente

The ideal time to visit San Vicente, Palawan, for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which generally runs from November to May. Within this period, the months of March to May are particularly favorable, offering sunny skies and calm seas, perfect for beach activities and island hopping. The weather is typically warm and pleasant, with minimal rainfall, making it conducive for exploring the long coastlines and enjoying outdoor adventures.

The shoulder months, such as November and February, can also be excellent times to visit. You might experience slightly fewer crowds compared to the peak months of March to May, while still enjoying good weather conditions. Traveling during the wet season, from June to October, is possible but comes with a higher chance of rain, which could disrupt outdoor plans. However, this period often sees lower accommodation prices and fewer tourists, which can be appealing for those seeking a more secluded experience.

Food and Dining Near San Vicente — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

San Vicente, like much of Palawan, offers a delightful array of Filipino cuisine, with a focus on fresh seafood. A must-try is the classic

Kinilaw

, a Filipino ceviche made with raw fish (often tuna or tanigue) marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. The tangy and refreshing flavors are perfect for the tropical climate, and you can find excellent versions at local eateries and restaurants, often served with a side of rice.

Another local favorite is

La Paz Batchoy

, a hearty noodle soup originating from Iloilo but popular across the Philippines. It features a rich pork broth, noodles, and toppings like pork cracklings, shrimp, and vegetables. While San Vicente is coastal, trying this comforting soup, especially on a cooler evening or after a day of travel, can be a satisfying experience. Look for small, local carinderias for an authentic taste.

Seafood lovers should definitely indulge in grilled or steamed fresh catch. Many restaurants in San Vicente will have a display of the day's catch, allowing you to choose your fish, squid, or prawns, which are then cooked to your preference. Often served with soy sauce, calamansi, and chili, or simply with garlic butter, this is a straightforward yet delicious way to savor the ocean's bounty. This is a staple for any Filipino traveler exploring coastal areas.

Don't forget to try local Filipino snacks and desserts.

Halo-halo

, a popular mixed-fruit dessert with shaved ice, milk, and sweet beans, is a perfect way to cool down. You might also find local delicacies like

Puto

(steamed rice cakes) or

Kutsinta

. Exploring the local markets and small eateries will give you the best chance to discover these authentic flavors and support local businesses.

All good and a nice place to be if you’re seeking a relax, quiet and simple vacation place.

Small but excellent resort. Staff very friendly. Great food at great price. On the beach. The long trip is compensated on arrival
