Your Travel Guide to Quezon City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Quezon City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is the most common method. From NAIA, you can take a taxi, ride-sharing service, or airport bus to Quezon City. Flight prices can vary significantly, but booking in advance, especially through platforms like Traveloka, can help secure more affordable fares. Expect travel times from NAIA to Quezon City to range from 45 minutes to over an hour, depending heavily on traffic.

If you are traveling from nearby provinces or cities, bus travel is a practical and economical option. Numerous bus terminals in Metro Manila serve routes to various destinations across Luzon. You can find buses heading towards Cubao or other major transit points in Quezon City. The fare range for inter-provincial buses is generally budget-friendly, making it a popular choice for many Filipino travelers.

Driving your own vehicle or taking a car rental is another way to reach Quezon City. Major expressways and national highways connect different regions to Metro Manila. Once you enter the metropolitan area, follow signs leading to Quezon City. The journey can be scenic, offering glimpses of the Philippine countryside, but be prepared for potential traffic congestion as you approach the capital. You can book flight tickets and compare prices easily on Traveloka for your convenience.

Best Time to Visit Quezon City

Quezon City experiences a tropical climate, characterized by warm temperatures year-round. The dry season, typically from November to April, offers the most pleasant weather for exploring the city, with less humidity and lower chances of rain. This period, especially from December to February, is considered peak tourist season due to the cooler temperatures and festive holiday atmosphere.

The wet season runs from May to October, bringing with it higher humidity and frequent rainfall, often in the form of afternoon thunderstorms. While this season might deter some outdoor activities, it also means fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices. If you don't mind occasional rain showers and are looking for a more budget-friendly trip, visiting during the wet season can still be very rewarding.

For a balanced experience, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as late October or early November, or late April to early May. These periods often provide a good mix of favorable weather and manageable crowds, allowing you to enjoy Quezon City’s attractions comfortably. Regardless of when you visit, always check the weather forecast closer to your travel dates.

Food and Dining Near Quezon City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Quezon City is complete without indulging in classic Filipino dishes. Start with Adobo, a savory and tangy dish of meat (usually chicken or pork) braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. It’s a staple in every Filipino household and a comforting taste of home. You can find excellent versions in local eateries and even some of the more traditional restaurants around Tomas Morato Avenue.

Another must-try is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, typically made with tamarind broth, meat (pork, beef, or fish), and a variety of vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. Its distinct sourness is incredibly refreshing, especially on a warm day. Many Filipino restaurants in Quezon City offer their own take on this beloved soup, each with a unique flavor profile.

For a taste of grilled perfection, try Lechon Kawali, deep-fried crispy pork belly that is crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. Served with a side of soy-vinegar dipping sauce, it’s a decadent treat that’s hard to resist. It’s a popular dish found in many Filipino dining establishments and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Don't forget to sample Pancit, a general term for Filipino noodle dishes. Whether it’s Pancit Canton (stir-fried wheat noodles) or Pancit Palabok (rice noodles with a rich shrimp-based sauce), these dishes are flavorful, satisfying, and a common sight at Filipino gatherings and eateries. Exploring the local food scene is an integral part of the Quezon City experience.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Quezon City

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals, a polite greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. Filipinos are generally respectful of elders and appreciate good manners. It’s also common to be invited for meals or offered refreshments, and accepting these gestures is a sign of politeness.

When it comes to safety in Quezon City, like any major urban center, it’s wise to be aware of your surroundings. Avoid displaying expensive items openly and be cautious of your belongings, especially in crowded areas or on public transport. Stick to well-lit and populated areas, particularly at night. For emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911.

Having a few essential apps on your smartphone can greatly enhance your travel experience. Ride-sharing apps like Grab are indispensable for getting around Metro Manila, offering a convenient and often more affordable alternative to taxis. Navigation apps such as Google Maps are crucial for finding your way around the city and estimating travel times.

For foodies, apps like Zomato or local food blogs can help you discover highly-rated restaurants and hidden culinary spots. Staying connected is also important, so consider getting a local SIM card upon arrival for affordable data access. These tools will help you navigate, communicate, and explore Quezon City with greater ease and confidence.

The hotel is less clean, less security, because there is a peek from the side window, the window is a hole to peep.
