Our stay was short yet it is very meaningful. The place is very calm and it's like we rented the whole place that day we stayed. I highly recommend this if you want to getaway with the hustle and bustle of city. 😊

We enjoyed our 3 nights stay at Planet Dive Resort. It is very near Twin Rocks and its hoise reef is great for snorkelling. We had our skin diving practice there. We spotted huge porcupine fish, trumpet fish, many colourful Basslets, Anemone fish and even a lobster. The resort has many rooms and we stayed at Red 1 room which has a nice shower room and more than enough space for our luggage & sea activity gear. We hope they have a portable towel rack in the future so that we can hang our wet swim wear outside the room. We love the fullboard meals. We had fresh & scrumptious seafood and generous spread. The Chef also prepared diffetent dessert for us daily. There are free coffee & tea at the dining area that faces the sea.. The swimming pool is new and we saw that the staff cleaned it every morning. The whole compound was kept very clean. However, there was no diving actvities on Tuesday when we wanted to scuba dive. They could arrange a Dive master for a very affordable price but only for shore dive as thete was no other divers that day to share a boat out. All the staff were friendly and helpful - they are mostly from the village next to the resort. We highly recommend staying here as a base for water activities in Anilao

Nice place with great service. There are nearby dive centers if they don't have enough customers to go out for the day.

Your Travel Guide to Mabini as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Mabini from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

Traveling to Mabini from Manila is a popular choice for many Filipinos seeking a coastal escape. The most convenient way to reach Batangas province, where Mabini is located, is by taking a bus from major terminals like Cubao or Buendia. These buses typically run frequently and offer a budget-friendly option, with fares ranging from PHP 300 to PHP 500, and the journey takes approximately 3 to 4 hours.

For those who prefer to fly, you can book flight to Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). From there, you would need to arrange ground transportation to Mabini. This usually involves taking a taxi or a ride-sharing service to a bus terminal that serves Batangas. While flying directly to Batangas is not an option, this method can be faster if you are coming from distant parts of the Philippines.

Driving your own vehicle is another viable option, offering flexibility and the ability to stop along the way. The route from Metro Manila typically involves taking the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR Tollway) towards Batangas City. From Batangas City, follow signs leading to Mabini and Anilao. The total travel time by car is comparable to taking a bus.

Best Time to Visit Mabini

The dry season, generally from November to May, is considered the prime time to visit Mabini and Anilao. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calmer seas, which are ideal for diving, snorkeling, and other water activities. The weather is typically pleasant, with lower chances of rain, making it easier to plan your outdoor excursions and enjoy the coastal scenery.

However, the peak tourist season, especially around the Christmas holidays and Holy Week, can mean larger crowds and higher accommodation prices. If you prefer a more tranquil experience and potentially better rates, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as November or February, or the early part of the dry season. These periods still offer good weather conditions but with fewer visitors.

The wet season, from June to October, can bring occasional typhoons and heavy rainfall, which might disrupt travel plans and outdoor activities. While diving is still possible, visibility can be affected, and boat trips might be limited due to rough seas. However, this period also sees fewer tourists, offering a more secluded atmosphere for those who don't mind the possibility of unpredictable weather.

Food and Dining Near Mabini — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Batangas is complete without savoring its famous Bulalo. This hearty soup, made with beef shanks and bone marrow, is slow-cooked until the meat is incredibly tender and the broth is rich and flavorful. It’s the perfect comfort food, especially after a day spent by the sea, and you can find excellent versions in local eateries around Mabini.

Another must-try is Batangas' own version of Lomi. This thick noodle soup, often packed with various meats and vegetables, is a local favorite. Its savory broth and generous toppings make it a satisfying meal that embodies the hearty Filipino palate. Many small carinderias and restaurants in the area serve their own unique take on this beloved dish.

For seafood lovers, the coastal location of Mabini means an abundance of fresh catches. Grilled fish, shrimp, and squid are readily available and often prepared simply to highlight their natural flavors. Enjoying these fresh from the sea, perhaps with a side of garlic rice and a dipping sauce, is a characteristic part of the Batangas culinary experience.

Don't forget to try the local delicacies like Panutsa, a sweet, crunchy peanut brittle, or the famous Kapeng Barako, a strong and aromatic local coffee. These treats offer a taste of Batangas' unique flavors and are perfect for a quick snack or a souvenir. Exploring the local markets can lead you to these authentic tastes.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Mabini

Filipinos are known for their hospitality, and Mabini is no exception. A simple greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way when interacting with locals. Respecting local customs, such as dressing modestly when visiting religious sites, is always appreciated. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people.

When it comes to safety, Mabini is generally a safe place for tourists. However, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas or at night. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items. For emergencies, know the local police hotline number, which can usually be found online or by asking your accommodation.

For seamless travel, having a few essential apps on your smartphone can be very helpful. Ride-sharing apps like Grab are useful for transportation within larger towns or cities if you're coming from afar. Navigation apps such as Google Maps are indispensable for finding your way around. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Viber are widely used by Filipinos.

Consider downloading a currency converter app if you're dealing with different currencies, and a translation app can be handy for basic phrases if you're venturing into less tourist-frequented areas. Having these tools readily available ensures a smoother and more informed travel experience in Mabini and beyond.

Plenty of room for our bags and belongings, and a very comfortable bed. I especially liked the large, minimalist room and bathroom. Good A/C and cellular access on Globe. Food was honest, tasty and abundant Filipino cuisine. The infinity pool was fresh water and delightful. The staff was very accommodating. Only a couple of suggestions to management:. Please make the sliding doors slide more easily and install wifi in the rooms. In general you are doing a great job. The diving was excellent.

For my birthday, my friends and I went to Planet Dive for island hopping to visit 2 islands and we rented a boat for 3,000 for the said package. When we got there, minutes into the very dangerous boat ride (I was with 3 friends and we all thought we were about to die), we were informed that we needed to go back to the resort. Once we got back, I tried to dispute the 3,000 price since we were promised a package for island hopping, we almost died and we didn’t get to visit any but the front desk attendant (I think her name is ate Nene) was very RUDE and showed no concern to us, their guests. At first, after explaining our horrible boat ride, she was very persistent that we still pay for the whole amount. She then talked to the manager and eventually told us that we can pay 1,500 saying “sige, bayaran niyo na lang yung kaya niyo” (“ok, just pay what you can afford”). It was very HUMILIATING since she was trying to imply that we were disputing the charges since we don’t have money, when in fact, I was disputing the charges because they weren’t able to provide the package that they promised and WE ALMOST DIED. Upon checking out, no one even thanked us for staying with them and no one even apologized for putting us at risk and when they found out that we’re commuting back to Manila, they even tried to belittle us even more.

I really enjoyed my stay at Planet Dive. I initially found it difficult to contact the hotel as I couldn't find a current email address on their website. I needed to contact them as I had booked the hotel on Expedia, but needed to add the diving I wanted to do and a transfer. I ended up contacting a Dive Master (DM) I'd previously dived with who told me the email address. Having said all that, once I had the email address, the responses were very efficient and accommodating. (planetdiveanilao@gmail.com for anyone who may have had the same problem). The hotel organised the transfer for me to and from Manila. I preferred to do this as I was a female travelling alone and my flight landed at 3:30am! I was solely there to dive and crammed in 10 dives in 3 days and loved them. The DM I dived with was a good spotter and found me some macro life/critters to photograph. He even managed to find my request of a Harlequin Shrimp, although obviously finds like this aren't guaranteed! The room was clean and quite big with a lovely view overlooking the sea. I only had 1 encounter with a cockroach in there. I found the food tasty but there was so much of it! On the days where there were more guests, they served it as a buffet/help yourself affair. There wasn't a choice from a menu as the meals were set but different every day. There is a bit of a steep climb up stone stairs to the rooms so if mobility is an issue, it wouldn't be easy to get around. I would definitely go back there again.

Truly a "Dive" resort. Dilapidated. At best a 1 star. A ton of trash on the West beach. Very few fish. Nothing else to do in the area. Construction noise from 7 to 7 every day.

This resort is absolutely GORGEOUS. The views of the water/sunset/palm trees from every room are simply divine. The rooms are charming, clean, and spacious. Water in the showers was only luke-warm but that seems normal in the Phillipines? Wifi is only in the public areas but I found it nice to unplug. The beach is rocky, but great snorkeling/diving options! They have a lovely deck where they serve dinner right on the water and comfy beach chairs to lay out on. :) The food is a buffet style- 2 meat dishes, a vegetable dish, always rice and sometimes pasta- very good! They have beer/some wine but if you want hard liquor you can buy it in town and bring it in! It is a 30+ min tricycle ride from the town of Mabini, so if you want to go there to explore/eat, budget a bit of time/money for the ride. This place is great for a romantic getaway but could also be amazing to bring a big group of friends (make sure to get everyone dive certified before or plan to work with their schedule to get trained there!).

* You must always keep in mind this is the Philippines and certain luxuries come at a premium. You also need to keep in mind the quirks of being in a country like the Philippines. All things are relative when traveling. I live and work part of the year in the Philippines and Batangas is a great because it can be a short vacation trip without flying. Planet Dive was a new resort to me and was very pleased with location and atmosphere. Like a lot of reasonably affordable places in the Philippines it has some quirks but relative to other places I stayed Planet Dive had few. Overall very happy with Planet Dive Like a lot of resorts in the area they are right on the beach. For those not diving you can go a couple meters into the water and you are swimming with coral and fish. For the diver you can dive by the resort or take a boat further out. A lot of options for the underwater explorer of all skill levels. I would not say this reef in front of the resort is the best, but it is good and worth the time. I can not speak for the diving because I have not gone in the area yet, but I have heard it is even better the the resort reef. The resort itself had many rooms scattered over the property to adds the the level of privacy. The dining area is great, with a nice view and amazing Filipino food. They use local coffee from Batangas which is perfect in the morning. Not a white sand beach and this is for people that want to snorkel or dive. Allow plenty of time for travel, it is the
