Outstanding customer service by their entire staff! Yvone Ramos, the manager, along with Rochelle and Jen at the front desk accommodated our date alterations. Also, Billy at the restaurant was very prompt at our service needs. I want to ensure these hard workers get recognized! For sure this is the best place to stay in Baler! Your Travel Guide to Baler as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Baler from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Baler from Metro Manila is a popular choice for many Filipinos seeking a coastal escape. The most common method is by bus, with several companies operating daily trips from terminals in Cubao and Pasay. These journeys typically take around 5 to 6 hours and can cost between PHP 500 to PHP 800, depending on the bus company and service type (e.g., air-conditioned). Booking your bus tickets in advance, especially during peak seasons, is recommended.

For those looking for a faster route, flying into Clark International Airport (CRK) or Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and then arranging transport to Baler is an option. From these airports, you can take a bus or hire a private van. To find the most convenient and affordable flights, consider using Traveloka to book flight tickets. Flight prices can vary significantly, so booking early is key.

Driving your own vehicle offers the most flexibility. The journey from Manila typically involves taking the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and then the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) before heading towards Cabanatuan and finally Baler via the scenic Pantabangan-Canili-Bongabon Road or the Aurora National Highway. The drive can take approximately 5 to 7 hours, depending on your starting point and traffic. Be prepared for winding roads as you approach Baler.

Best Time to Visit Baler

The ideal time to visit Baler for most travelers, especially surfers, is during the northeast monsoon season, from October to March. This period brings consistent swells to the shores of Baler, making it prime time for catching waves. The weather during these months is generally cooler and less humid, with occasional rain showers.

For those who prefer drier weather and are less focused on surfing, the months of April to June offer sunny skies and calmer seas, perfect for beach activities and exploring the town. However, this is also the peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and higher accommodation prices. The shoulder months of July to September can be a good compromise, with fewer crowds and a chance of experiencing Baler's lush greenery, though be prepared for potential rain due to the southwest monsoon.

Food and Dining Near Baler — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When in Baler, you absolutely must try the local seafood. Freshly caught fish, squid, and prawns are prepared in various delicious ways. Look for grilled options or simple preparations like *kinilaw* (Filipino ceviche) to savor the natural flavors of the ocean. Many carinderias and restaurants along the coast offer these delights at reasonable prices.

Don't leave Baler without trying *Pinangat*, a local specialty. This dish features taro leaves (gabi) cooked in coconut milk with fish or shrimp, often seasoned with chili and other spices. It's a creamy, savory, and slightly spicy dish that is unique to the Aurora region and a true taste of local cuisine. You can find this in most local eateries.

Another local favorite is *Suman*, a type of sticky rice cake often wrapped in banana or palm leaves and steamed. It's a popular breakfast or snack item, often enjoyed with grated coconut or *latik* (caramelized coconut milk). Baler also offers delicious *longganisa* (Filipino sausage) for breakfast, often with a distinct local flavor profile.

For a sweet treat, try the local *Halo-Halo* or *Mais con Yelo* during warmer days. These refreshing desserts are perfect for cooling down after a day under the sun. Exploring the local food scene is an integral part of the Baler experience, offering a delicious insight into the region's culinary traditions.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Baler

Baler is known for its friendly and hospitable locals. When interacting, a simple "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. Respect local customs, especially when visiting churches or historical sites. Dress modestly when visiting religious places.

For safety, Baler is generally a safe destination for Filipino travelers. However, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas late at night. If you plan to surf, always heed the advice of lifeguards and instructors regarding ocean conditions.

In case of emergencies, note down the local police and hospital contact numbers. Having a reliable mobile signal is important, so consider getting a local SIM card if needed. For navigation and information, apps like Google Maps are essential. Ride-hailing apps are not as prevalent in Baler as in major cities, so tricycles are the primary mode of local transport.

Other useful apps include weather forecast apps to prepare for changing conditions and translation apps if you plan to interact with locals who may speak different dialects. Having these tools readily available can significantly enhance your travel experience and ensure a smoother trip.

Like the clean room and staff service. Breakfast is okay more choices like Tapsilog would be preferred. A pool and the clear environment outside though safe would have been an added advantage for .us to have a choice to swim beyond 6 pm.

The place has been accommodating and attentive to all of our family needs. Their staffs are all pleasant to deal with. They allow PETS. We brought our 2 dogs with us when we went to Baler. The room is very spacious and clean which is very conducive for the families who have infants with them. I have a 3 months old baby. We booked the room with sea view. The breakfast is good. It has a lot of parking space at the back of the hotel. Very near to the mainstreets of Baler. Worth every penny.

One of the nicer properties in this area of Baler. Could use a little attention to details in the room. The area also could be cleaned up to make it nicer.

Service, staff, was great, only things we didn't like was the restroom (CR) window stays open and can not be closed, concern about mosquitos and other animals coming in, Dogs barking, and people working and nailing next to our room.

Located on the beach at the end of the boardwalk. Good breakfast options and restaurant with differing menu selections. The staff was very friendly professional and accommodating.

Like the clean room and staff service. Breakfast is okay more choices like Tapsilog would be preferred. A pool and the clear environment outside though safe would have been an added advantage for .us to have a choice to swim beyond 6 pm.

The hotel was clean and staff friendly. The restaurant was good as well. We had the power go out a few times and the cable Tv did not work. Access to the beach right across the street with parking available on site. Easy walking distance to a few restaurants close to nearby resorts.

Playa azul is nice and clean but there are better and cheaper places to stay nearer to the action spot. The beach in front is not advisable for kids.
