Your Travel Guide to Pasig as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Pasig from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is the most common method. Flight prices can vary significantly, but budget-friendly options can often be found for around PHP 3,000 to PHP 6,000 for a round trip from major cities like Cebu or Davao, depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets.

From NAIA, you can take a taxi or a ride-sharing service directly to Pasig. The journey typically takes between 45 minutes to over an hour, depending heavily on traffic conditions. Alternatively, you can take the airport shuttle to a point where you can connect to the MRT or LRT systems, which can be a more economical option for reaching Pasig.

If you are traveling from nearby provinces in Luzon, driving is a viable option. Major expressways like the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) connect to Metro Manila’s road network. Toll fees will apply, and the travel time can range from two to several hours depending on your starting point and traffic.

Best Time to Visit Pasig

The Philippines experiences a tropical climate, and Pasig is no exception. The dry season, generally from November to April, offers the most pleasant weather for exploring. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing. Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 33°C.

The wet season runs from May to October, characterized by higher humidity and frequent rainfall, often in the form of heavy afternoon showers. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it’s advisable to pack an umbrella and be prepared for potential disruptions to outdoor plans. Traveling during the shoulder months of November or February can offer a good balance of favorable weather and fewer crowds.

Food and Dining Near Pasig — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to the Philippines is complete without indulging in Adobo, the unofficial national dish. This savory and tangy stew, typically made with chicken or pork braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a staple in Filipino households and restaurants. Its comforting flavors are a true taste of home for many.

Another must-try is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup that comes in various forms, most commonly with pork, shrimp, or fish. The distinct sourness, usually derived from tamarind, is incredibly refreshing and pairs perfectly with steamed rice. It’s a dish that embodies the Filipino palate’s love for complex, layered flavors.

For those with a sweet tooth, Halo-Halo is the ultimate Filipino dessert. This popular iced concoction is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream. It’s a perfect way to cool down on a warm day and offers a delightful explosion of textures and tastes.

Don't leave Pasig without trying Lechon, a whole roasted pig known for its incredibly crispy skin and succulent meat. While often a centerpiece for celebrations, many restaurants offer Lechon portions, allowing you to savor this iconic dish. The rich, savory flavor is something distinctive.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Pasig

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and warmth. When interacting with locals, a polite greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) is always appreciated. Respect for elders and a generally amiable demeanor are key aspects of local culture. Understanding basic etiquette will enhance your interactions.

When it comes to safety, Metro Manila is generally safe for tourists, but it’s always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. It’s also advisable to use reputable transportation services and be cautious of unsolicited offers.

For emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911. Having a local SIM card can be very useful for communication and accessing data. Essential apps for navigating the city include Waze or Google Maps for traffic and directions, Grab for transportation and food delivery, and a reliable translation app if you're not fluent in Tagalog.

A cool, cozy hotel. The main downside is the small room size compared with other hotels in the same price range.

Pros: The staff were welcoming and friendly. The lobby looked really nice and cozy. Cons: The room is smaller than in the photos. It's like cramped within walls that are filthy, even the air conditioning unit looks like it hasn't been cleaned/wiped for a very long time. The wall beneath the aircon and window side also have water stains and just looks awful. :( Good thing we only stayed 3 days and just stayed out most of the time.

The room smells bad like they didn't clean it well before letting us stay. I've been to that hotel before that's why I decided to choose privato again because of my first experience with them but then all my expectations ruined ehrn they gave us a room that has a big part of rock on the side. The aircon doesn't work well like its still hot even if its been working for an hour and we can even hear all the people and stuffs that is passing by from the hallway like its not a soundproof room

A cool, cozy hotel. The main downside is the small room size compared with other hotels in the same price range.

Room was clean, staff are approachable. I would suggest you clean the pool area; the brown edges are actually dirt stains.

Okay for the price. Friendly staff. They took time to check us in but they upgraded the room. Near restaurants and cafes.

The location is quite strategic, places to eat are close, laundry is close, rooms are minimalist, staff is responsive, the swimming pool doesn't disappoint.

The room was small though it was comfortable. The pool is just until 6pm which it could have been longer. There is no water in the water dispenser.

For the first, I hate the room, the AC is so Noisy. I call the front office to help me to arrange the new room and they make it. Good 👍.

The electricity was on and off and there's alarm in the hotel which will woke up you every time the electricity will shutdown. So we don't have enough sleep because of it.

It's okay for an overnight stay. The room is small. Her interior is minimalist. And his other amenities are super simple. The kid's pool was small. That's okay. There are also slippers provided from the toiletries.

Our room is clean and spacious; got an upgrade for free (thank you 😊). There's parking space available and a mall nearby so it's really convenient.
