Your Travel Guide to Cauayan as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Cauayan from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most convenient way to reach Cauayan from Manila is by air. You'll need to book a book flight to Bacolod-Silay Airport (BCD) in Negros Occidental. Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Fares can vary significantly depending on the airline and how far in advance you book, but expect prices to range from PHP 2,500 to PHP 6,000 for a round trip.

From Bacolod-Silay Airport, you will need to travel by land to Cauayan. This involves taking a taxi or van to the Bacolod South Bus Terminal. From there, you can catch a bus bound for Hinoba-an or Sipalay, which will pass through Cauayan. The bus journey takes approximately 3 to 4 hours, with fares generally ranging from PHP 300 to PHP 500.

Alternatively, if you are coming from other major cities in the Visayas or Mindanao, you might find ferry services to Bacolod. From there, the land travel to Cauayan remains the same. Driving your own vehicle is also an option, but it involves a long drive and potentially ferry crossings, making flights to Bacolod the most practical choice for most travelers from Luzon.

Best Time to Visit Cauayan

The Philippines generally experiences a tropical climate, and Cauayan is no exception. The best time to visit Cauayan is typically during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower chances of rain, making it ideal for outdoor activities, beach visits, and exploring the natural attractions.

The period between December and February is often considered the most pleasant, with cooler temperatures and less humidity compared to the hotter months of March to May. The wet season, from June to October, brings more frequent rainfall, which can sometimes be heavy and prolonged, potentially disrupting travel plans and outdoor excursions. While the shoulder months of November and June can offer a good balance, the core dry season provides the most reliable weather for a vacation.

Food and Dining Near Cauayan — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Negros Occidental is known as the "Sugarbowl of the Philippines," and its cuisine reflects a rich culinary heritage. When in Cauayan, be sure to try Chicken Inasal, a local specialty. This grilled chicken is marinated in a mixture of calamansi, pepper, and annatto oil, giving it a distinct smoky flavor and vibrant color. It's often served with garlic rice and a side of soy sauce and vinegar dipping sauce.

Another must-try is Piaya, a flat, unleavened bread filled with muscovado sugar and sometimes yema (custard). While it's a popular pasalubong (souvenir food), enjoying a freshly made piaya from a local bakery is a delightful experience. The sweet, slightly caramelized filling combined with the soft bread is a treat for the taste buds.

take advantage of this on fresh seafood, given Cauayan's coastal location. Grilled fish, prawns, and squid are commonly available and prepared in simple yet delicious ways. Look for local eateries or carinderias that serve freshly caught seafood, often grilled or steamed to perfection. Pair these with a side of steamed rice and a simple tomato and onion salad.

For those with a sweet tooth, try the local delicacies made with muscovado sugar, a less refined sugar that imparts a rich, molasses-like flavor. This can be found in various sweets and pastries. Exploring local markets and small eateries will give you the best chance to sample these authentic flavors of Negros Occidental.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Cauayan

The people of Negros Occidental, including those in Cauayan, are known for their hospitality and generally speak Hiligaynon (Ilonggo). A simple "Maayong adlaw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) will be appreciated. Respect local customs, such as dressing modestly when visiting churches or more traditional areas. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people.

Cauayan is generally a safe place for travelers. However, as with any destination, it's wise to exercise caution. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas or when traveling at night. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items. For any emergencies, local police can be reached at their respective hotlines, which are usually available at the municipal hall.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is crucial for getting around and finding your way to attractions and your hotel. A translation app can be helpful if you encounter situations where communication is a barrier, though English is widely understood in tourist areas.

For managing your bookings and travel plans, the Traveloka app is indispensable. It allows you to easily book flights, hotels, and attractions, and manage your reservations all in one place. Having offline maps downloaded can also be a lifesaver if you encounter areas with poor mobile signal.

There were plenty of staff to assist with whatever needs you had. Very friendly. Got to the room, there was a greetings on the TV to me, which I thought added a little class to the hole thing. The food was very good. Work was constantly being worked on for cleanlyness. Of the resorts that I have gone too thus far, this takes 1st place.

This was my 3rd stay at the Punta Bulata Resort and from the moment of our arrival until departure the staff provided excellent support and assistance. The front desk staff was kind and attentive and upgraded our room based on the mobility limitations of one guest in a wheel chair. Housekeeping staff helped with bags and the restaurant staff lifted the wheel chair up several stairs and into the restaurant every day for meals. Five stars for service. Food at the restaurant was great and the atmosphere was friendly and comfortable. I will certainly return and stay at the Punta Bulata Resort again and will recommend the place to family and friends.

Enjoyed our stay at Punta Bulata. Visited with my husband and two friends for 2 nights. It's located away from the other resorts in the area, so it's quiet and relaxing. We all were impressed by the chef and kitchen staff as the food was excellent for each and every meal. Only complaint would be with the bed frame as it was would constantly squeak. We definitely will be back.

Pros: - Beautiful resort - Very peaceful - Friendly staff Cons: - Road to the resort is muddy; a car would probably not make the treck. - Ants in the rooms; staff leave little desserts in your room before bed. By the time you return to your room they are covered in ants. - Not much to do; they have jetskis that have been broken for years. - Restaurant! ; the food selection is not good. Many items not available. Food was either over done or undercooked. Portion sizes are way too small for the price. I often ordered two meals just to be full. All menu items dont come with a side. So you order fish and you literally get a price of fish with no side. Since it's a difficult treck to the nearby city you feel trapped and I had a truck. Those who take a tricycle here will definitely regret it. If you go out for dinner your navigating back to the resort in the dark. I hope the owner listens to our feedback since it feels like this resort could be amazing. -fix the road -put ant traps -overhaul the restaurant menu and

Overall a good experience. However mini buffet breakfast wss actually ordering ala carte fron a menu. Many items on breakfast menu were not available. Dining service for both dinner and breakfast was very slow. Rainfall showerhead was not working properly. Water was barely warm. River rock bathroom floor was not good for sensitive feet and no room sandals were provided. Bed was very creaky. Positive comments: Soft towels Food prices were very reasonable. Food privided was good. Polite staff

They have a wide beach area to walk around. It’s clean and they have preserved the “nature feel” of the surroundings.

We stayed for 3 days and we loved it, the bathroom is amazing and very large, very clean resort, we recommend the danjugan island visit, the resort was almost empty which makes you feel like the island is only yours. Restaurant food and service is outstanding! five stars!!

We were the only ones booked during our stay since it was just in the early days of GCQ. The staff, especially Connie, is very welcoming, attentive, and courteous. Despite being an old resort, facilities are updated and maintained. Considering all the conditions of the pandemic, we were well satisfied with our stay.

I liked the swimming pool and the beach. The road to get to the property is very rough by trike.
