Your Travel Guide to Quezon City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Quezon City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is the most common method. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia offer frequent flights to Manila from various provincial capitals. Fares can range significantly, from PHP 1,500 to PHP 5,000 or more, depending on the origin city, booking time, and airline. From NAIA, you can take a taxi, ride-sharing service, or the airport bus to reach Quezon City. Booking your flight in advance through Traveloka can often secure more economical fares.

If you are traveling from nearby provinces in Luzon, bus travel is a practical and budget-friendly option. Numerous bus terminals in Metro Manila, such as those in Cubao and Pasay, serve routes to Quezon City. Companies like Victory Liner, Genesis Transport, and Five Star offer regular trips. Bus fares typically range from PHP 400 to PHP 800, with travel times varying based on distance and traffic. This mode of transport is ideal for those who prefer to avoid air travel or are coming from accessible regions.

For those driving their own vehicles, Quezon City is accessible via major expressways. If coming from the north, the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) connects to the city. From the south, the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) is the primary route. Navigating within Quezon City involves a network of major roads like EDSA, Aurora Boulevard, and E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue. Be prepared for potential toll fees and significant traffic, especially during peak hours. Planning your route using GPS applications is highly recommended.

Best Time to Visit Quezon City

Quezon City experiences a tropical climate, with two main seasons: the dry season from November to April and the wet season from May to October. The coolest months are typically from December to February, with average temperatures around 27°C, making it a pleasant time for outdoor activities. The hottest months are usually from March to May, when temperatures can soar to 35°C or higher.

For Filipino travelers, the period between November and February is often considered ideal for visiting Quezon City. The weather is generally more comfortable, with lower humidity and less frequent rainfall, allowing for more enjoyable exploration of the city's attractions. This also coincides with the holiday season, adding a festive atmosphere to the city.

The wet season, from June to October, can bring heavy rainfall and occasional typhoons. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it can disrupt outdoor plans. If you choose to visit during these months, it's wise to have indoor activities planned and to stay updated on weather advisories. Traveling during the shoulder months of May or November can offer a good balance of decent weather and fewer crowds.

Food and Dining Near Quezon City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to the Philippines is complete without indulging in Adobo, the unofficial national dish. This savory stew, typically made with chicken or pork braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a staple in Filipino households. You can find excellent versions in local eateries and restaurants throughout Quezon City, often served with steamed rice. Look for smaller, family-run carinderias for an authentic taste.

Another must-try is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup that comes in various forms, most commonly with pork, beef, or seafood, and tamarind broth. The tangy flavor is incredibly comforting, especially on a cooler or rainy day. Many restaurants offer their own take on Sinigang, so feel free to ask for recommendations. It’s a dish that truly represents the Filipino palate's love for complex flavors.

For those with a sweet tooth, Halo-Halo is the ultimate Filipino dessert. This colorful concoction is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s the perfect refreshment during Quezon City's warm climate. You can find popular Halo-Halo spots in malls and local dessert shops, each offering a unique presentation and flavor profile.

Lechon, a whole roasted pig with crispy skin, is a celebratory dish that is also widely available. While often associated with special occasions, many restaurants offer lechon as part of their regular menu, either as a whole pig or in individual servings. The succulent meat and incredibly crunchy skin make it a highly sought-after delicacy. Exploring local markets and restaurants will lead you to some of the best lechon Quezon City has to offer.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Quezon City

While generally a friendly society, it's always wise to be mindful of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas.

When it comes to safety in Quezon City, like any large urban center, it's important to exercise common sense. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, particularly in busy public transport hubs and markets. Avoid displaying expensive items openly. For emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911. It's also a good idea to have the contact numbers of your hotel and local police precinct readily available.

To enhance your travel experience, several mobile applications can be very useful. Ride-sharing apps like Grab are essential for convenient and relatively affordable transportation around the city. Google Maps is indispensable for navigation, helping you find your way around Quezon City's complex road network. The room is affordable, the bed is comfy, and the staffs especially those in the reception are accommodating and friendly, however the room that was assigned to me seems clean but at night I always kill an average of 3 mini cockroaches. I asked the housekeeping staff to clean it and they did, but still, the place looks clean but the mini cockroaches are still there.

From the hotel details and facilities, it says there that there’s a parking. yes, there’s a parking but you need to pay 150php for that, its ok to pay but please include it in the details that pay parking is available. The room was old, there’s an open vent in the ceiling, toilet and bath were separate.

The view from the room was good. It was clean though there wasn't a faucet in the toilet but they have a pail so you just need to get water in the shower room. I was initially given the room without the view which was unlike what I booked here on web so I called the front desk and requested to be transferred and they obliged but I think the male crew got irked with me requesting to be transferred. Overall it was a really pleasant stay and super worth it for a cheap price. Wifi was OK btw and a lot of establishments nearby. Will def be back if I have to stay in QC some other time.

The room is affordable, the bed is comfy, and the staffs especially those in the reception are accommodating and friendly, however the room that was assigned to me seems clean but at night I always kill an average of 3 mini cockroaches. I asked the housekeeping staff to clean it and they did, but still, the place looks clean but the mini cockroaches are still there.

supposed the parking was free and yet they take 150 for parking even for motorcycle, they are very greedy, take note! the parking was very spacious that time..

From the hotel details and facilities, it says there that there’s a parking. yes, there’s a parking but you need to pay 150php for that, its ok to pay but please include it in the details that pay parking is available. The room was old, there’s an open vent in the ceiling, toilet and bath were separate.

The accommodation doesn't look exactly like the picture since I requested for a good view of the city but the facilities are excellent and well maintained.

Well it's a bit unsatisfying because the actual room is in the pictures here in the app that I've just given it to. :(

Noisy hallways, rooms need to be soundproofed, very very poor wifi connection,no early check in + they will have you pay 1000 pesos as security deposit, they didn’t state in their website.😔.
