Your Travel Guide to Sagada as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Sagada from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Sagada from Manila typically involves a bus journey, as there are no direct flights to the municipality. Buses depart from various terminals in Metro Manila, such as Cubao or Pasay, heading towards Sagada or Bontoc, which is a common transfer point. The trip can take approximately 9 to 12 hours, with fares generally ranging from PHP 800 to PHP 1,200, depending on the bus company and service type. Booking your book flight to Clark or Manila first is the initial step for many.

From Baguio City, often referred to as the "Summer Capital of the Philippines," bus routes to Sagada are more frequent and direct. Buses usually depart from the Dangwa Terminal and the journey takes around 5 to 6 hours. The scenic route offers glimpses of the Cordillera mountain range. Fares from Baguio are typically more affordable, ranging from PHP 300 to PHP 500. This makes Baguio a popular starting point for many travelers heading to Sagada.

For those who prefer to drive, the journey from Manila to Sagada is a long but rewarding drive, covering over 400 kilometers. The primary route involves taking the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), then proceeding via the Jose Abad Santos Avenue and MacArthur Highway towards the northern provinces. The final leg involves navigating the winding mountain roads. Toll fees can add up, and the travel time can exceed 10 hours, so it's advisable to have a well-maintained vehicle and plan for overnight stops if needed.

Best Time to Visit Sagada

The best time to visit Sagada generally falls during the dry season, which spans from November to May. During these months, the weather is cooler and less prone to heavy rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, spelunking, and exploring the hanging coffins. The period between December and February is particularly popular, offering crisp, cool air and clear skies, perfect for enjoying the mountain scenery.

The wet season, from June to October, brings frequent rain showers and typhoons, which can disrupt travel plans and make some outdoor activities challenging or inaccessible. However, this period also sees fewer tourists, offering a more tranquil experience for those who don't mind the occasional downpour. The lush green landscapes during the rainy season can be quite beautiful, offering a different kind of charm. For the most pleasant weather and accessibility to all attractions, aim for the dry season.

The place itself is very nice. The way that it's away from the poblacion makes it very special. However, our private CR's door is broken - the lock doesnt work. And the fact that it is a separate room where anybody can enter makes it uncomfortable. Also, guests are very noisy during nighttime and the staff doesnt do anything about it. Another thing is, they do not provide toiletries. For almost 2k/night, I expect them to have atleast a bar of soap. Wont come back.
