The wreck dives are great but my family didn’t like it as much. The diving team Tom, Iko and Shay are all great. They are very knowledgeable and personable. Service at the resort is impeccable. MJ, Naomi, Steph are great. They always accommodate our dietary restrictions at breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. The bar tenders are also great. It is a full bar but don’t expect to get high quality spirits. We had a villa on the beach with Air Conditioning. The A/C helps if you are in bed just below it but it is still very humid and hot in the rest of the room. The food is OK. Wifi is unreliable. You can get wifi only in the common areas (dining room, reception, dive centre) so the first beach villa near the dining room had some wifi.

It was a unique and wonderful experience. Not the normal avg resort. The staff are exceptionally kind, helpful and genuinely want your experience to be fantastic. I loved falling asleep to the ocean, the variety of food offered and just the relaxed vibe. The resort is the only place on the island. My cabin did not have AC but I was very comfortable with the breezes and fans. Any modern convienance missing was made up with happy hour, beautiful views, and friendly staff. I also recommend the tours if offered. Great experiences snorkling and visiting the natural hot spring.

Your Travel Guide to Coron as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Coron from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Coron from Manila and other major Philippine cities is primarily done via air. The main airport serving Coron is Francisco B. Reyes Airport (USU) on Busuanga Island. Several airlines operate flights to USU from Manila (MNL) and Cebu (CEB). Flight prices can vary significantly, but budget-conscious travelers can often find fares ranging from PHP 4,000 to PHP 8,000 for a round trip if booked in advance or during promotional periods.

The flight duration from Manila to Busuanga is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Upon arrival at Busuanga Airport, you will need to take a van transfer to Coron town proper. These van rides typically cost around PHP 150-250 per person and take about 30-45 minutes. From Coron town, you will then arrange a boat transfer to reach specific islands like Sangat Island. For those looking to plan their entire trip, it’s convenient to book flight tickets and accommodation together.

While flying is the most practical option, there are no direct bus or ferry services from Manila to Coron. Travelers seeking alternative routes might consider flying to Puerto Princesa and then taking a bus to Coron, but this is a significantly longer and less convenient journey, often taking 6-8 hours by land. Therefore, for most Filipino travelers, booking a flight is the recommended and most efficient way to reach the Coron area.

Best Time to Visit Coron

The ideal time to visit Coron, Palawan, for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to May. Within this period, the months of March to May are often considered the best, offering sunny skies, calm seas, and excellent visibility for diving and snorkeling. This weather pattern is perfect for enjoying the island’s numerous water activities and exploring its stunning lagoons and beaches.

The shoulder months, such as November and February, can also be excellent choices. You might find fewer crowds compared to the peak months of March to May, and the weather is generally still very favorable. Traveling during the wet season, from June to October, is possible but comes with a higher chance of rain and rougher seas, which could potentially disrupt boat tours and outdoor activities. However, this period often sees lower prices for flights and accommodation, making it an option for those on a tighter budget who are flexible with their travel dates.

Food and Dining Near Coron — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Coron offers a delightful culinary scene that reflects the rich flavors of Filipino cuisine, with a special emphasis on fresh seafood. When you visit, be sure to try Kinilaw, a Filipino version of ceviche, where fresh raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili. It’s a refreshing appetizer, especially popular in coastal towns like Coron, showcasing the freshness of the local catch.

Another dish that is a staple across the Philippines and a must-try in Coron is Adobo. Whether it's chicken or pork, the savory and slightly tangy flavor profile achieved through soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns is deeply satisfying. Many local eateries in Coron town offer their own versions, each with a unique twist.

For seafood lovers, grilled fish and squid are abundant and incredibly fresh. Enjoying these simply grilled, perhaps with a squeeze of calamansi and a side of soy sauce and chili, is a characteristic Palawan dining experience. Don't forget to sample La Paz Batchoy, a hearty noodle soup with pork, shrimp, and vegetables, perfect for a comforting meal after a day of island adventures. Lastly, try Halo-Halo for dessert, a popular Filipino mixed-fruit and shaved-ice concoction that is perfect for cooling down in the tropical heat.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Coron

Coron is known for its friendly and welcoming local population. While English is widely spoken, learning a few basic Tagalog phrases like "Salamat" (Thank you) and "Magandang araw" (Good day) can be appreciated. Respect local customs by dressing modestly when visiting churches or more traditional areas, and always ask for permission before taking photos of people.

Safety in Coron is generally good, especially in tourist areas. However, as with any travel destination, it’s wise to be aware of your surroundings. Keep your valuables secure, especially in crowded places like markets or transport terminals. It’s advisable to use reputable tour operators for island hopping and diving trips. For emergencies, note down the local police and hospital contact numbers, which can usually be obtained from your accommodation.

For a smoother travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is useful for navigation, though offline maps are recommended as connectivity can be spotty in some areas. A currency converter app can help with managing your budget, and a translation app might be handy if you encounter situations where communication is challenging. Traveloka app itself is essential for managing your bookings and discovering local attractions.

Wow where do I start. The staff here honestly takes pride in service. It is a small property so Jennifer and staff will probably remember your names. The chef is great and creative. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided in your rate. Good balance of traditional Filipino food and healthy options. Food was top tier honestly. The resort itself is beautiful and quiet. Great snorkeling at the property as well. Not a place for someone looking to party but if you want beautiful views, relaxation and water activities this is the place. Again, great service.

Amazing resort. The dive island was everything we could have hoped for with beautiful scenery, exceptional food and some of the coolest dive sights I’ve ever seen. The staff was incredibly friendly and really can’t reiterate the food quality (found myself eagerly awaiting each meal to see what delicious items they cooked up next!). The bungalows were clean and comfortable and just have a fun ambiance being able to hear the sounds of the ocean and what have you. The dive sights were breathtaking and abundant, offering a new unforgettable experience day in and day out. For the price point, you can’t beat it. Would certainly recommend!

Eco does not mean lack of cleanliness and thoughtfulness. It has taken me a long time to review this property as I rather not complain about personal experiences. But as I look at the scars from insect bites on my arms, I feel others need to be aware. The hotel customer service is poor. There is a strong mentality of ‘not my job’ among the staff. Except for the room where the owner stays, rooms have doors that do not lock, insect nests by the doors, flees in beds and generally not very clean. I also got food poisoning from a tour arranged by the hotel which makes me think they do not qualify their vendors yet charge commission for arranging. I stayed here for the diving place which has a very good reputation but could not wait to leave. The positives were the excellent chef and a new receptionist who was trying her best with very little help from the management.

Such a beautiful place Eat, Sleep, Relax, Kayaking and one of the best diving in the world. So much to do on the Islands that you need minimum 1 week or maybe more. Special thanks to Pam, the restaurant manager for taking care of us. She is such a nice lady to talk to and beautiful Amber for hanging out with us. Gladys and Colin

Amazing location with the most beautiful reef I’ve seen so far. Saw a large variety of fish and a very massive turtle. Asma was lovely and a great host, answered all my questions before I knew I had them! Only thing I would say is the set menu can be quite limiting, although the dishes were lovely and local, some more choice would have been preferred but overall wonderful - chefs did a great job!!

This place is bliss. My wife and I spent five nights in the Treetop room and I can't imagine a more relaxing destination. The food is excellent, the staff are friendly and attentive. The reef out front is excellent for snorkeling, and the whole place is just easy. Because of its island location there are no people walking around who are not guests, and nobody on the beach selling anything. In fact, only a handful of guests at any time on the beautiful beach. The rooms are simple and clean with shaded balconies. Air conditioning would be nice, but power is limited to solar, so, not yet. Fans are provided. In our room, which I recommend, it was set back a little, still with ocean views, but backed into the cliff with more trees in front, the monkeys visited regularly which was very entertaining. They observed us with the same interest as we did them from our balcony and our bathroom window overlooking the rocks and trees, with mother's carrying their infants in a way that looked like they were showing off. We just came off an 8 day dive liveaboard, so we chose not to dive, but all the dive infrastructure is there for your use, and there are many great sites nearby. I highly recommend Sangat Island Dive Resort!

Exceptional service, great food and lovely cocktails. the dive shop was very professional. really unique beach rooms, but will mention only one of the two beds in the beach huts has air conditioning. that said, with the wonderful breeze, heat wasn't an issue. the transportation to and from the airport was great. a really special place.

The stay is very pleasant and we had a really nice experience there. We did kayaking to the hot spring, 2 wreck dives (snorkel) and Island hopping tour. The services and food are amazing and I wish we could stay there longer. We would definitely recommend staying here who love nature and considering trying wreck dive.

We love this island resort. We got sad leaving this place. If you’re considering booking here, just do it and you won’t regret it. Great food, awesome people and great diving amenities. The only downside was getting sad when it’s time to leave. We will definitely come back.
