The Beach View was wonderful. Also an open air restaurant approx 30 yards from the Sea was great. The bungalow was very clean and hot water in the shower. The kitchen was equipped with pots, pans, dishes, cups and flat ware. The TV due to Wifi had problems. Other than the TV, i would stay in this lodging anytime. Very reasonably priced through Expedia.

Your Travel Guide to Puerto Galera as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Puerto Galera from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Puerto Galera from Manila is a popular route for many Filipinos. The most common method involves taking a bus from terminals in Metro Manila (like Cubao or Pasay) to Batangas City Port. These bus rides typically cost between PHP 200 to PHP 300 and take approximately 2 to 3 hours, depending on traffic conditions. From Batangas Port, you will then board a ferry or a fast craft to Puerto Galera.

The ferry journey to Puerto Galera usually takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. Ticket prices can range from PHP 300 to PHP 500 per person, with additional terminal fees. For those looking to expedite their travel, you can book flight tickets to Manila and then arrange for land transfers to Batangas. This multi-modal approach offers flexibility based on your budget and time constraints.

For travelers coming from other major Philippine cities like Cebu or Davao, the most efficient way to reach Puerto Galera is to first fly into Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). From NAIA, you would follow the same steps as mentioned above: take a bus to Batangas City Port and then a ferry to Puerto Galera. This makes Manila the primary gateway for most travelers heading to this Oriental Mindoro destination.

Best Time to Visit Puerto Galera

The ideal time to plan your trip to Puerto Galera generally falls within the dry season, which typically runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect more consistent sunshine and calmer seas, making it perfect for beach activities, swimming, and diving. The period between December and February is particularly pleasant, with cooler temperatures and lower humidity, offering a comfortable climate for exploration.

While the dry season is favored, the shoulder months of November and May can offer a good balance of favorable weather and fewer crowds. The peak season, especially around Christmas, New Year, and Holy Week, sees a significant influx of visitors, which can lead to higher accommodation prices and more crowded beaches. If you prefer a more tranquil atmosphere, consider visiting outside these peak periods.

The wet season, from June to October, brings a higher chance of rainfall and occasional typhoons. However, this period also offers lush greenery and potentially lower prices for accommodation and activities. For divers, visibility can sometimes be better during certain parts of the wet season, and the reduced number of tourists can be appealing. Always check weather forecasts closer to your travel dates.

Food and Dining Near Puerto Galera — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Puerto Galera offers a delightful culinary scene that reflects Filipino tastes and coastal influences. A must-try is the fresh seafood, often grilled or steamed to perfection. Look for establishments serving *Sinigang na Hipon* (shrimp sour soup) or *Ginataang Kuhol* (snails in coconut milk) for authentic local flavors. These dishes showcase the region's bounty and traditional cooking methods.

Another Filipino favorite you'll find readily available is *Adobo*, prepared with chicken or pork, simmered in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. While a staple across the Philippines, each region offers its own subtle variations. Enjoying *Adobo* by the beach, perhaps with a side of *Sinangag* (garlic fried rice), is a classic Filipino dining experience.

Don't leave Puerto Galera without trying *Laing*, a Bicolano dish made from taro leaves cooked in coconut milk with dried fish or pork. Given Oriental Mindoro's proximity to the Bicol region, this flavorful and creamy dish is a local specialty. Pair it with steamed rice for a truly satisfying meal that captures the essence of regional Filipino cuisine.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Puerto Galera

When visiting Puerto Galera, it's appreciated to show respect for local customs. Filipinos are generally warm and hospitable; a simple "po" and "opo" when addressing elders or showing deference goes a long way. Be mindful of noise levels, especially in residential areas or during quiet hours at your accommodation. Understanding basic Filipino greetings can enhance your interactions.

Safety in Puerto Galera is generally good, especially in tourist areas like Sabang and White Beach. However, as with any travel destination, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings. Keep valuables secure, avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas late at night, and be cautious of overly friendly strangers offering unsolicited help or deals. It's also recommended to stay hydrated and use sun protection due to the tropical climate.

For essential travel needs, consider downloading a few key apps. A ride-hailing app can be useful for booking tricycles or other local transport if available in the area. A reliable map application will help you navigate Puerto Galera and its surroundings. Additionally, a translation app can be helpful if you encounter individuals who speak limited English, though English is widely understood in tourist spots. Having a local emergency contact number readily accessible is also a good precaution.

Nice location, in reasonably good condition. No shampoo provided. Room power including AC goes off when you leave the room and take the key. Would not be a big deal, except it gets very hot and stuffy in the room while you're gone, and it takes at least 20-30 minutes for the room to cool down once you return. Also, no in-room safe.

When I first checked in the hotel the room was very hot with the AC running. Staff said there was a problem with the electricity. The first 2 days the generator below the standard room was constantly running. By the third day the electricity was back to normal with the generator shut off. The room was nice and cool with the AC on full blast. The hotel has a big nice pool. Scared me when I was walking back to hotel room from the pool to get a cold beer seeing a snake on the side walk. The staff said not worry cause the head was chopped off. Like a chicken head chopped off but still moving. Apparently the snake fell from a mango tree. Prices at the hotel store are high. A san mig lt will cost you P62 compared to P40 at the grocery store near the bars.

Great hotel near the beach. Ocean view room was nice but don't think I'll get it again due to the fact its 3 stories up with no elevator.

Relatively newly remodeled hotel but you can tell already that maintenance is not a huge priority for them. Lack of a safe in the room was a definite minus. Very poor wifi coverage which even in the common area was extremely slow.

Enjoyed this hotel with the pool. My only complaint is the WiFi signal is very weak in the room. Until this is fixed I won't be staying here again.

Family run hotel. Every one except the lady @ the computer @ the check in counter is friendly. The manager was awesome making sure everything was good. No Foxnews! No wifi in the rooms. Need more routers. Room is clean with good aircon and water pressure.Nice big pool. Breakfast isn't all that great. Price is a bit high but I'll stay here again.

Nice apartment, everything provided, nice pool usually empty. If you want water sports and sand beach, rent motorbike and go WhiteBeach nearby.

Very decent resort a bit away from the 'busy' part of Sabang. If the price is right, this resort has everything you'll need for a comfy stay

I booked a room for 2 and paid extra for another person so that's 3 adults in total using Hotels.com and in their record they are telling me that I booked through Expedia. When I checked into the hotel, they told me that they are strictly only 2 person per room policy and I could not get my refund for the extra person that I already paid for in advance.

Much construction, noise, dirty pool, practicing divers in scuba gear allowed in pool, low quality breakfast and terrible pizza with really bad bread like crust. Housekeeping very poor cleaning. Nice manager and very helpful staff and low price do make it a possible option and they are very busy so it is not all bad. You get what you pay for

The place is under construction and they will put you in a room close to it if you book online. Dont do it. They moved me to a new room but it was not what I payed for. Ended up paying for deluxe and got standard room.
