The resort is very quiet and private yet only a few minutes drive from Sabang, where most of the resorts are. If you are in Baler mainly for the beach, go for the Sabang resorts. Our family was in Baler to learn how to surf anyway. The staff was very helpful and polite. The resort was perfect. We loved the kubos, hammocks and poolside furniture. Your Travel Guide to Baler as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Baler from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Baler from Manila is a popular route for many Filipinos. While there are no direct flights to Baler itself, you can book a flight to Clark International Airport (CRK) or Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila and then take a bus. Flight prices can vary, but booking in advance through platforms like Traveloka can help secure better fares.

Alternatively, direct bus services are readily available from terminals in Metro Manila, such as Cubao or Pasay. These buses offer a more economical option, with fares typically ranging from PHP 500 to PHP 800, depending on the bus company and service type (e.g., regular or executive). The journey usually takes around 5 to 6 hours, offering scenic views as you head towards Aurora province.

For those coming from other major Philippine cities, the most common approach is to first travel to Manila via flight or bus and then connect to a Baler-bound bus. Planning your trip to book flight tickets to Manila or directly to a bus service to Baler well in advance is recommended, especially during peak seasons.

Best Time to Visit Baler

The ideal time for Filipino travelers to visit Baler is generally from November to March. During these months, the weather is typically drier and cooler, with calmer seas, making it pleasant for exploring the town and its beaches. This period is considered the peak season, so expect more crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices.

For surfers, the prime season is from October to March, when the Pacific swells are most consistent, particularly at Cemento Beach. If you prefer fewer crowds and potentially lower rates, consider visiting during the shoulder months of April to May or September to October. However, be aware that the weather can be more unpredictable during these times, with occasional rains.

The months from June to August are part of the typhoon season, which can bring heavy rainfall and rough seas, potentially disrupting travel plans and outdoor activities. While it’s the off-peak season, offering the lowest prices and fewest tourists, it’s crucial to monitor weather forecasts closely if you plan to visit during this period.

Food and Dining Near Baler — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Baler offers a delightful culinary scene that reflects its coastal location and Filipino heritage. A must-try dish is the fresh seafood, often grilled or prepared in various local styles. Look for restaurants serving *Sinigang na Isda* (fish sour soup) or grilled *Panga ng Tuna* (tuna jaw), which are local specialties that showcase the ocean’s bounty.

Another local delicacy you should seek out is *Pinangat*, a dish made from taro leaves, coconut milk, and small shrimp or fish, simmered to perfection. Its creamy texture and savory flavor are distinctively Bicolano-inspired, reflecting the region’s culinary influences. Many eateries in Baler offer their own version of this comforting dish.

Don’t leave Baler without trying *Adobo*, a Filipino classic, but perhaps try a local variation if available, such as *Adobong Pusit* (squid adobo). The tangy and savory notes are a staple in Filipino cuisine. For a sweet treat, look for local delicacies like *Buko Pie* (young coconut pie) or *Ube Halaya* (purple yam jam), perfect for pasalubong.

Exploring the local eateries and carinderias will give you an authentic taste of Baler. Many places offer affordable and delicious meals, allowing you to savor the local flavors without breaking the bank. Trying these dishes is an integral part of the Baler travel experience for any Filipino foodie.
