Your Travel Guide to Quezon City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Quezon City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is the most common method. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia offer frequent flights to Manila from various provincial capitals. Fares can range from PHP 2,000 to PHP 6,000 or more, depending on the origin city, booking time, and airline. From NAIA, you can take a taxi, a ride-sharing service, or a bus to reach Quezon City. Planning your book flight in advance can secure better prices.

If you are traveling from nearby provinces like Pampanga, Bulacan, or Laguna, taking a bus is a more economical option. Numerous bus terminals in Metro Manila serve routes to and from these provinces. For instance, buses bound for Cubao or Kamuning in Quezon City are readily available. Bus fares typically range from PHP 200 to PHP 500, and travel time can vary from 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on traffic.

Driving to Quezon City is also feasible for those coming from Luzon. Major expressways like the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) connect to Metro Manila. You will need to navigate through the city's road network to reach your specific destination in Quezon City. Toll fees will apply, and it's advisable to use GPS navigation to avoid getting lost in the complex urban landscape.

Best Time to Visit Quezon City

The Philippines experiences a tropical climate, and Quezon City is no exception. The dry season, from November to April, is generally considered the best time to visit. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city. Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 35°C.

The wet season runs from May to October. While this period brings occasional rain showers, they are often short-lived and can provide a refreshing break from the heat. Traveling during the wet season might mean fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices, offering a different kind of experience for the budget-conscious traveler. It’s advisable to carry an umbrella or raincoat if you plan to visit during these months.

Food and Dining Near Quezon City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Quezon City is a culinary hotspot, offering a diverse range of Filipino dishes. A must-try is **Adobo**, the unofficial national dish, featuring meat (usually chicken or pork) braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. You can find excellent versions in traditional Filipino restaurants scattered throughout the city.

Another local favorite is **Sinigang**, a sour and savory soup, typically made with tamarind broth and a choice of meat or seafood, along with various vegetables. Its comforting taste is perfect for any weather. For a more substantial meal, **Kare-Kare**, a rich oxtail stew in a peanut sauce, served with bagoong (shrimp paste), is a unique and flavorful dish that showcases the depth of Filipino cuisine.

Don't leave Quezon City without trying **Lechon**, a whole roasted pig known for its crispy skin and succulent meat. While often a celebratory dish, many restaurants offer lechon portions for everyday enjoyment. For dessert, **Halo-Halo**, a popular cold dessert made with shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, and topped with leche flan and ice cream, is a refreshing treat. Many eateries and specialty shops in Quezon City serve these iconic dishes.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Quezon City

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals, a polite demeanor and a smile go a long way. It's customary to use "po" and "opo" when addressing elders or superiors as a sign of respect. Understanding basic Filipino greetings like "Magandang umaga" (Good morning) or "Salamat" (Thank you) can also be appreciated.

When it comes to safety, Quezon City, like any major urban center, requires awareness. It's advisable to be mindful of your belongings, especially in crowded places like markets or public transport. Avoid displaying expensive items openly and stick to well-lit and populated areas, particularly at night. Keep emergency contact numbers handy, such as the local police hotline.

For navigating the city and staying connected, several apps are highly recommended. Ride-sharing apps like Grab are essential for convenient and relatively safe transportation. Staff provided great service - they were very pleasant and respectful. The building needs a little maintenance- the grout in the bathroom was disgusting, they either need to bleach or regrout. Maybe the filter in the AC needs to be replaced , there was an odor when the AC was running.

My room in 601 was very noisy on the first night (18 Dec 2019). The neighbors must be having a party till late! There should be some limits to the noise level. On the 3rd night (20 Dec 2019), some idiots were blasting loud music in front of the hotel till 1 am, causing me to stay up late and losing sleep … Will not choose this hotel again.

The 1st thing that really turned me off is the incidental deposit of 1000 (it should have been mentioned in the booking process and I would have skipped this hotel!) Second is the access of the basement parking to the room: they need to call another person to key in the lift so that basement parking can access the rooms on higher floors. 3rd the parking pass: it’s a little complicated that security needed to advice me to return to the room to get the ticket! And i was already on the hotel ramp going off to my destination!

Staff provided great service - they were very pleasant and respectful. The building needs a little maintenance- the grout in the bathroom was disgusting, they either need to bleach or regrout. Maybe the filter in the AC needs to be replaced , there was an odor when the AC was running.

It's a serviceable hotel. Clean, but fixtures in bathroom are a bit dated, especially the countertop. Hallways above lobby, including elevators do not have a/c.

We enjoyed our stay here. Hotel is comfortable and modern. I would have preferred a closet and drawers for my things though. Restaurant buffet breakfast was good and so is the area. Staff friendly and Check in good.
