Arrest these folks for hospitality malpractice!
We were on our way overland through Negros and Panay moving towards Borocay and so Kalibo represented a last stop before the last morning leg to Borocay. This place seemed like a reasonable stopover choice and the wifi was purported to be strong, a rarity in the Philippines.
First, we will qualify this denunciation with the information that there was a festival gearing up in Kalibo that week. But later that morning and even a few days later when we drove by, the dynamic of which I will describe was still in full swing.
The location is at a busy intersection and so lots of vehicles and scooters are always going through. On the night we stayed there, the loud noises continued right through to early morning, finally ramping down around 5am.
We were given a room in the front. The window in that room was the multi slat folding glass variety. Those windows could not close to where there was not a gap of at least a quarter of an inch, so in effect, the room was exposed to all the incoming traffic noise with almost no reduction compared to standing right out front.
Result: no sleep. Frankly, I would be surprised if anyone has ever actually slept in this room. The owners of this place should not operate suggesting that room was one where any rest could occur.
Well, the wifi was ok. However, the staff was pretty unwelcoming. Maybe they knew what we were going to experience. Early the next morning we left quietly. Until now.
