Perfectly fine for what you pay
I’ve just got back from a two centre stay in the Philippines mainly diving – Moalboal was nice – no real beach where I was but there are some up the coast. Moalboal town was a cheap motorbike taxi ride away. Food and drink are cheap about £1 for a small San Miguel. Food was around £5-£6 for a pizza or burger and chips. £3 or so for a lunchtime snack. Exchange rate is slightly better but this isn’t like Tenerife where they are loads of facilities, bureau de changes, chemists etc. I was B&B and £20 was enough for food and a few evening drinks per day. Where I stayed wasn’t quite what I expected. I thought it would be sandy beaches and a few more bars that you could walk to- did the wrong research. But it’s a road that ends in an alley with a few restaurants and bars. There wasn’t really anywhere to walk to that I found. Panagsama is not a sandy beach but a rocky beach. Don’t expect golden sand etc. It’s a bit of a backpacker’s destination – most stay a few nights. I was there a week for the diving, which was quite good. Water temp was 28 degrees – I used a 1mm shortie and 2mm undervest – I was fine. Some others wore 5mm. The sardines just offshore are quite good - you can snorkel this. And the whales sharks dive further south was ok, its expensive and a bit of a circus but it’s off the bucket list. There’s a few bars - the main one is Chilli Bar which was the liveliest. Head out a bit further to One Eyed Jacks for occasional live music. There’s not tons going on. It’s fairly chilled and laid back. Accomodation was fine, air con worked and we had a kettle. Rooms are basic and comfortable and clean. To be honest we weren’t in them much. We didn’t eat much here as the service initially was slow but breakfast service did get better. Staff are friendly. Everyone speaks English. Sole e Mar has a nice outlook, the pool is fine, nice and warm, nice views of the sunset. A lot of the trip adviser reviews say the same for this place the price you pay – it’s absolutely fine. We ate most nights at the same restaurant – The Pleasure Principle - food was really nice, not tons of choice and not tons of authentic Philippine food but it’s a Thai French Italian Spanish Asian English sort of place and its probably the best place . I still had a great time but as I said I was mainly there for the diving. We used Savedra Dive Centre and they were really good

Nice, clean rooms, good location.
I was moved to this hotel after I found the room I'd booked at one of their sister hotels to be far too noisy for me. I think the room I was moved to had been recently renovated - it was bright, clean, good aircon and TV etc. Double bed and a nice porch area. Quite quiet at night-time. The bathroom was still a bit basic but fine - the shower didn't work initially but when I asked about it they sent someone to fix it straight away and in 20mins parts had been changed and it worked fine. Cleaning staff very friendly and happy to provide all sorts of advice on where to go and what to do. Wifi worked only occasionally and the staff at reception weren't too concerned (they kept insisting it was fine, even though it wasn't). The pool, reception lobby, restaurant (for free breakfast etc) is all directly over-the road, in their main hotel, the Cabana. The Cabana itself is on the beach but the Sol E Mare isn't - though it's only a 30 second walk.

Cost-performance is not so good
2000 PHP per/night is same or a little higher than other nearby hotel. The bath room water flow is very slow. Air conditioner is old and loud. If I came back moalboal again, I would like to try other hotel.

Not very bad, not good either.
I stayed at Sole e Mare for a week, during the first week of May. It was overall, okay. But I wonder if at 2000php/night, whether I could have gotten a better room elsewhere? Strengths: location was excellent, just 2mins to the sea. Air-conditioning worked well. Daily turnover of room. Daily breakfast right at the beautiful seafront. Areas that cld be improved: wifi (connectivity was bad, and when I asked about it, staff were nonchalent and couldnt be bothered much, except to ask me to try again later). Service (i did not feel the warm hospitality i received in the rest of moalboal and cebu). Cleanliness of room (please do remind the housekeepers to empty the bins, it was a horrendous shock when I checked in to realize soiled tissues in there). Might be good also to have a small trash bin in the room. Also, the shower head was slightly stronger than a dribbling tap, unsure if it was just the room i was in. Regardless, it was an overall pleasant enough stay. I guess I needed to adjust my expectations downwards. But just sharing my thoughts - pictures I took of the room is attached.

Great location, good service and good food!
Our weekend trip to Panagsama Beach in Moalboal, Island of Cebu was enhanced by the good service and friendly staff at this place, where reservations were handled by Savedra Dive Center and part of the Cabana Beach Club. Our group of 15 especially found the quality of food and menu selection satisfactory. Except for one noisy room facing the "main street" they were all clean, good aircon, beds and bathroom very ok for the price we paid (under 2,000 pesos per night including breakfast). Location is superb in the middle of the village, with restaurants, bars and shops on both sides and a clean beach. The pool was clean and the divers had all their services next door. WiFi in reception area. Recommended.
