What Guests Say About Their Stay

I had the most amazing stay in Solina. Service was really really great and the facilities were astounding. The bed was really comfortable we slept soundly that we almost forgot to wake up for our Islas trip. The breakfast buffet was also alright, but the highlight really was the pool, jacuzzi and the great service of the staff. Our Islas trip got cancelled because of the weather yet Solina did not close their doors on us. They allowed us to stay and chill in their pool. don't get us started with their food menu. The food was very delicious and even though it's a hotel, the price was very affordable. love solina!

Everything is so perfect. From personnel to food (though a bit pricey but understandable) up to the rooms. They go the extra mile for us and even let us use the comfort rooms even if we already checked out and assist us up to the van who fetched us to Iloilo City. Thumbs up! And the breakfast buffet is so good. Hope I can visit again and spend more days in the resort.

Your Travel Guide to Carles as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Carles from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For the most convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For travelers coming from Manila, the most efficient way to reach Carles is by air. You can book flight tickets to Iloilo International Airport (ILO). Several airlines operate this route, with fares typically ranging from PHP 2,500 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and how far in advance you book. The flight duration is about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Upon arrival at Iloilo Airport, your journey to Carles continues overland. You will need to take a taxi or van to the Molo Bus Terminal or Tagbac Terminal in Iloilo City. From there, board a bus bound for Carles. The bus trip itself is a significant part of the journey, lasting approximately 4 to 5 hours. Bus fares are generally affordable, ranging from PHP 300 to PHP 500.

Alternatively, for those who prefer to drive, you can rent a car or use your own vehicle. The drive from Iloilo City to Carles involves navigating provincial roads. The total travel time by car is similar to the bus, around 4 to 5 hours. This option offers more flexibility for stops along the way. Remember to book your flight early for the best deals.

Best Time to Visit Carles

The ideal time to visit Carles, Iloilo, is generally during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, the weather is typically sunny with less rainfall, making it perfect for island hopping and enjoying the beaches. The seas are usually calmer, ensuring smoother boat rides to the famous Gigantes Islands and other nearby islets.

The peak tourist season often falls between December and February, coinciding with holiday breaks and cooler weather. While the weather is excellent, expect larger crowds and potentially higher prices for accommodation and tours. For a balance of good weather and fewer people, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November, March, April, or May.

The wet season, from June to October, brings a higher chance of rain and typhoons. While you might find lower prices and fewer tourists during this period, travel plans can be disrupted by inclement weather, potentially affecting boat schedules and outdoor activities. It’s always wise to check the weather forecast before and during your trip.

Food and Dining Near Carles — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Carles is renowned for its fresh seafood, particularly its scallops. A must-try dish is the **Scallops in Garlic Butter**. These are typically harvested from local waters and prepared simply to highlight their natural sweetness and briny flavor. You can find these prepared in various ways, often grilled or sautéed, at local eateries and even at Solina Beach & Nature Resort’s restaurant.

Another local specialty is **Diwal**, a type of clam that is unique to the Philippines. These are often served steamed or grilled, offering a distinct taste of the sea. Their availability can be seasonal, so if you have the chance to try them, seize the opportunity. They are a true delicacy for seafood lovers visiting the region.

Don't leave Carles without trying **Kinilaw**, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish, usually tuna or mackerel, is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. It’s a refreshing and zesty dish that perfectly complements the tropical climate. Many local restaurants serve their own take on this classic Filipino appetizer.

For a taste of local sweets, look for **Buko Pie** or other coconut-based desserts. Carles, being a coastal area, has access to fresh coconuts, which are used in various culinary creations. Enjoying these treats with a view of the sea adds to the overall dining experience. Exploring the local market can also lead you to discover other regional snacks and delicacies.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Carles

The people of Carles are known for their hospitality and strong connection to the sea. Fishing is a primary livelihood, and the community’s rhythm often follows the tides. When interacting with locals, a friendly demeanor and respectful attitude go a long way. Learning a few basic Ilonggo phrases can also be appreciated, though English and Tagalog are widely understood.

When it comes to safety, Carles is generally a safe destination for travelers. However, as with any travel, it’s always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas like markets. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying excessive wealth. For any emergencies, local police can be reached through standard emergency numbers.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is crucial for getting around, especially if you plan to explore independently. A weather app will help you stay updated on conditions, particularly important for island hopping. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp are widely used.

It's also beneficial to have a currency converter app handy if you plan to shop or dine outside of places that accept cards. While many establishments in tourist areas might accept credit cards, smaller vendors and local markets often prefer cash. Having these tools readily available can enhance your travel experience and ensure you are well-prepared for your visit to Carles.

The room was beautiful. However not enough toilet paper available. Staff was friendly and accommodating. A little snafu. We were supposed to have checked in for 4 rooms total with our party but were given three. So it looked like one of the travelers was a no show. They fixed the problem and took off the extra charges for the "extra people" that we had to squeeze into the quad room. But in hindsight, it would have been more relaxing to have been in 4 rooms as originally booked. Not sure how the front desk did not pick up the fact that we had four rooms booked in the first place upon checkin and pre-check in on that first day? ...But, we still enjoyed our visit but wished it was a longer stay altogether. Thank you for your hospitality! 😊

Room was nice, front desk and staff were great. Food was great too… amenities were all nice. However, waiting staff at the restaurant is mediocre. They didn’t check on us after we got our food. Asked for soy sauce and vinegar from two different people and they never brought it.

What I like was the friendly accommodating staff. What I didn't like was that in room dining wasn't 24 hours.

The hotel itself and the staff were wonderful. Well maintained and updated rooms. It is by the beach but you can't use the beach. It is very dirty with trash washing ashore. It is not a good sight to see. The location of the hotel is far from everything. The port/pier and everything else is at least a 20 minute drive, Can't walk to any place. No taxis, only tricycles. The hotel shuttle costs so much.

The resort is amazing, the wooden blinds are a little loose in our room but other than that the staff was friendly and the place was so clean and fun. I absolutely recommend.

The staff were courteous and welcoming. The entire place is immaculately impressive. Love the full body massage by one of your cabanas.
