Your Travel Guide to Olongapo, Subic as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Olongapo, Subic from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Reaching Olongapo and Subic from Metro Manila is a common journey for many Filipinos, and it's quite accessible. The most popular method is by bus. Numerous bus companies, such as Victory Liner and Genesis Transport, operate daily trips from terminals in Cubao, Quezon City, and Pasay City. The fare typically ranges from PHP 300 to PHP 500, and the travel time is approximately 3 to 4 hours, depending heavily on traffic conditions, especially when leaving Metro Manila.

For those who prefer flying, the nearest major airport is Clark International Airport (CRK) in Pampanga, which is about a 1.5 to 2-hour drive from Olongapo. Alternatively, you can fly into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. From either airport, you can take a bus or arrange for a private transfer to Olongapo. Booking your flights in advance through Traveloka can often secure better fares, so consider using the book flight feature to plan your air travel.

Driving your own vehicle offers the most flexibility. From Metro Manila, you can take the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and then the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) towards Subic Bay. The journey is scenic and relatively straightforward, with toll fees amounting to a few hundred pesos. This route allows you to control your schedule and stop as needed along the way.

The dry season, generally from November to April, is considered the most pleasant time to visit. During these months, you can expect less rainfall and more sunshine, making it ideal for outdoor activities, beach visits, and exploring the region's attractions. Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 33°C.

The wet season runs from May to October, bringing with it increased chances of rain, often in the form of heavy afternoon downpours or typhoons, particularly from July to September. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it can disrupt outdoor plans. For travelers who prefer guaranteed good weather for their excursions, the dry season is the recommended period. However, even during the wet season, many indoor attractions and activities remain accessible.

Food and Dining Near Olongapo, Subic — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Freshly grilled fish, prawns, and squid are readily available in many local eateries and restaurants. Look for places that serve *sinigang na isda* (fish sour soup) or *kinilaw* (Filipino ceviche) for authentic flavors.

Another local specialty you should seek out is *Adobong Puti*, a variation of the national dish adobo made without soy sauce, relying on vinegar, garlic, and salt for its distinct taste. This dish is often prepared with chicken or pork and is a staple in many households. You'll also find various *lutong bahay* (home-style cooking) restaurants that offer a wide array of Filipino favorites, from *kare-kare* to *laing*.

Don't forget to sample local delicacies and snacks. Depending on the season, you might find fresh *mangoes* from Zambales, which are known for their sweetness. For a more substantial treat, try *Pancit Luglog*, a local noodle dish often found in Pampanga but also enjoyed in Zambales, characterized by its thick sauce and toppings. Exploring the local markets and smaller carinderias will often lead you to the most authentic and delicious culinary finds.

When dining out, consider trying restaurants that offer a view of the sea or a relaxed ambiance. Many establishments in Barrio Barretto, for instance, provide a pleasant setting to enjoy your meal. Exploring these culinary options is an integral part of the travel experience, allowing you to connect with the local culture through its food.

The rooms and staff where good only thing is the pool is not a swimming pool it's more for little kids to stand around and play so if your looking for a swim you best check another place . Nice location and view beach pretty dirty but you can walk to the water foresistant a swim

Well me and wife arrived and had some mechanical issues... Brought to attention of night staff about refund and moving to another level cation... Front desk staff and maintenance staff took IMMEDIATE ACTION ... Within minutes we were relocated to another room where everything was absolutely fantastic.. Front line staff are direct mirrors of their leaders.. In this case it was no wonder that the issues were taken care of.. Management was absolutely fantastic. Staff excellent and food was delish.. 4-5 stars in my book... If you get to subic please visit grand seas resort and have a wonderful stay.. We will again

In the morning of our check-out, they were having problems with water supply at the second floor. It was very hassle. What we didn't like is that my mom and aunt called the front desk several times to follow up for updates on the water problem. We waited for around 30 minutes but they were still not doing anything to fix the problem. As customers, we don't plan to waste time by just waiting around - we wanted results asap. My mom went warfreak mode and they were forced to act on the problem asap. They ended up bringing us with gallons of purified drinking water to be used for bath. Apart from the water problem, their pool was also small (don't believe the pictures) and kind of dirty. For a family getaway, the location is not appropriate since it's in the red-light district. Basically we wouldn't recommend staying here. Sorry not sorry.

Lots of trash and debris all over the entire premises. Needs landscaping bad! Uneven walkways and unsafe pavements. Needs a lot of help improving the place. Good location though

Everything was ok, we enjoyed our stay. The room was clean, the staff were nice, the pool even if small is okay, the food was alright, just need to improve on the cleanliness of the beach, as there trash on it... But overall, it was an awesome stay in your hotel! Keep it up!😊

When we checked in our room wasn't ready yet and no bath towels prepared. The room is badly needed some renovation though the location is accessible and walking distance to any restaurants outside.

The hotel staff where very friendly the rooms where big but the bathroom was not so clean there is mold on the ceiling spider webs bugs etc... The saddest thing is the beach there is sewage, glass condoms just really dirty. That is not the hotels fault of course that is the local government. The hotel is not bad for a one night stay it is good value for price oh the restaurant was not bad also.

Our stay at the hotel was great eventhough we booked on a very short notice. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was spacious and the shower was very spacious as well.Having breakfast outside on the terrace with a great view on the bay is highly recommended.Checking in went fast and so was checking out.

Peaceful & Quiet Stay. Staffs Were Friendly. Love The Ambience, Near The Beach. Small Resort With Limited Facilities. Room Very Rundown. Wall Very Thin. No Toilet Floor Mat. Cockroches Everywhere. Wifi Unstable.
