#romantic #oldfeels with #modernfacilities
Sulyap made my birthday/family reunion very memorable. We got rooms at the Alitagtag and the Obando houses. I stayed at the Alitagtag house. We got a wonderful veranda where the family hung out in the evening, enjoying the romantic #oldfeels with the convenience of the #nouveau facilities (wifi, a/c, intercom, and really big modern bathroom). The resto food was great (i loved the Kulawong Puso ng Saging and the Sinigang). The museum visit was made very interesting and educational by our excellent guide. Good job kuya kahit na sa accounting ka pala at hindi curator :) galing! Sulyap is best visited in the afternoon to evening to catch the old romantic feel.

It is a gated property, which feels secured. When we checked-in, housekeeping must've forgotten to clean the bathroom as it has the smell of urine and wet shower floor, which somehow tainted our impression for few hours. Other than that, the place is marvelous, food was good and the staff are nice. The kids really enjoyed the pool. Ideal for people looking for a serene weekend/day. Since it's surrounded by gardens, mosquito are expected so make sure you bring repellent lotions esp for kids. It's true value for money and we are recommending this place to our friends. Weekdays must be best because the place is also frequented by people for wedding receptions etc. by weekends. Make sure you visit their museum, which is small but nice.

So far the best we've experienced in the South
So easy to locate and check-in was very fast. We're so lucky that we booked through agoda instead of direct booking. We got 400+ discount. We booked the Obando house ground floor since it's the cheapest but for us the room is just perfect. We will still choose this room because it's away from the cafeteria that becomes full especially on long weekends. A/C, hot/cold shower, TV working properly. Bed & sheets so comfy. Our breakfast is generous and delicious. Our favorite table in the cafe is in the bridge area where you will feel so relaxed with the sound of water from the fountain. Recommended is taking an early stroll in the orchard and don't leave Sulyap without visiting the gallery. We brought with us uncooked red rice and our sincerest thanks for accommodating our request to cook it and we even got a complimentary extra egg in our breakfast. Thank you so much and more blessings for the owners and all your staff. Mabuhay ang Sulyap!

Great placement - Not a great B&B
Context: I'm a western traveler. I'm aware of substantial differences between this locality and, for example, Manila. It's (apparently) self-rated as a 2.5 star establishment. I stayed in Room 2 - a ground floor room. Bad: The bathroom is awful. The shower head is 90% blocked resulting in about 5-6 streams of knife-like pressured water. The outside wall of the bathroom was a glass sliding door which didn't close all the way letting insects get into the bathroom - notably mosquitos. The bathroom is by no means modern, or clean. The place needs a serious scrub down and air out. The room has a pervasive smell which I can't identify - but was not too offensive to me personally. The mattress needs replacement, even in other traveler photos you can see that it is badly sunk in the middle leading to pretty awful sleep if there are two of you. The bedding is very old, and has holes. There was a blackout in the morning while we were there - but they did get a generator up and running quickly and the fault was repaired in a few hours. Good: Free wifi! The setting is quaint, the rustic style of the building is lovely - clearly going for a traditional vibe. The room is air conditioned and will stay cool even if you leave it off all day. The room, aside from the bathroom, is clean. The compound is about a hundred metres from the road which means it is quiet at night, the ubiquitous noise from the trikes, jeepneys and other traffic does not make it to the b&b unless they are driving down the access road. The only noise comes from other patrons and people visiting the restaurant and museum. The restaurant is excellent, but you can see that in the entry for it (Sulyap Cafe). Conclusion: This would easily become a 3-4 star review if the mattress and sheets were replaced, and the bathroom cleaned down properly, shower head replaced, and the sliding door at the very least sealed. If you have the opportunity to stay in an actual hotel that would be preferable unless this is the style of stay you're looking for.

Birding Laguna Lakes and Makiling
We stayed for a week in one of the beautiful reconstructed historical wooden homes. We were happy here. The interior reflected the early 1900s, but the bathroom/toilet is up-to-date. We had good wifi coverage. It was a perfect place for the man to go forth on birding adventures. The whole compound is charming, quiet, beautifully planted. The staff are very helpful. San Pablo is not, but should be a tourist town - the lakes are all quite close as is Makiling Mountain. There are no taxis. We required a car and driver, which the reception organised for us. And breakfast at 5am. There are tricycles just outside the compound, cheap, and you should use. The museum is very interesting, and curator obviously delighted with his job. The restaurant is amazing, plantation style. Very romantic, with chandeliers, overhead fans. Breakfast was included. We had dinner there most nights. The menu is written for local people who support and frequent it as well. It is in English, but some of the dishes remained a mystery.
