Your Travel Guide to Tagaytay City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Tagaytay City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Tagaytay City from Manila is a popular choice for many Filipinos seeking a cool respite. The most common method is by bus. Numerous bus companies operate routes from various terminals in Metro Manila, such as Cubao and Pasay, heading directly to Tagaytay. The journey typically takes between 1.5 to 2 hours, with bus fares generally ranging from PHP 150 to PHP 250, depending on the bus company and type of service.

For those coming from other major Philippine cities, the most efficient way to reach Tagaytay is often by taking a book flight to Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). From NAIA, you can then proceed to take a bus or arrange for a private transfer to Tagaytay. This approach is ideal for travelers coming from the Visayas or Mindanao regions, allowing them to connect to Tagaytay with relative ease after their flight.

Driving to Tagaytay City offers flexibility and the chance to enjoy the scenic route. From Metro Manila, you can take the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then connect to the Tagaytay-Calamba Road or the Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road. Toll fees can vary, but budget around PHP 300-500 for a round trip, depending on your starting point and vehicle. This option is great for families or groups who prefer to have their own transportation during their stay.

Best Time to Visit Tagaytay City

Tagaytay City experiences a generally cooler climate throughout the year compared to Metro Manila, making it a pleasant destination anytime. However, the dry season, from November to April, is often considered the best time to visit for outdoor activities and sightseeing. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, perfect for exploring attractions like Picnic Grove or enjoying the views of Taal Lake without the frequent rains.

The months from May to October constitute the wet season, characterized by occasional to frequent rainfall. While this period might bring lush greenery to the landscape, it can also lead to disruptions in outdoor plans. If you choose to visit during this time, be prepared for cooler temperatures and carry an umbrella or raincoat. Traveling during the weekdays or off-peak months can also offer a more relaxed experience with fewer crowds.

Food and Dining Near Tagaytay City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Tagaytay is complete without savoring its signature dish: Bulalo. This hearty beef soup, slow-cooked until the meat is tender and the bone marrow is rich, is a perfect comfort food, especially with Tagaytay’s cool weather. You can find excellent versions of bulalo in many local carinderias and restaurants scattered throughout the city, often served with a side of rice.

Another must-try is the Buko Pie, a sweet and creamy young coconut pie with a flaky crust. It’s a popular pasalubong (take-home gift) item that many travelers pick up before heading back to Manila. Look for freshly baked buko pies from well-known local bakeries; the warm, sweet filling is a delightful treat.

For those who enjoy savory snacks, Tagaytay offers delicious Tawilis, a type of freshwater sardine endemic to Taal Lake. Often served fried until crispy or grilled, Tawilis provides a unique local flavor that seafood lovers will appreciate. Many restaurants overlooking the lake offer this specialty, allowing you to enjoy it with a view.

Finally, don't leave Tagaytay without trying their local strawberries. The cooler climate is ideal for strawberry farming, and you can find fresh strawberries, jams, and other strawberry-infused products at roadside stalls and local markets. Enjoying a strawberry taho or fresh strawberry shake is a refreshing experience that captures the essence of Tagaytay’s agricultural bounty.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Tagaytay City

When visiting Tagaytay City, it's appreciated if you show respect for local customs and traditions. Filipinos are generally warm and hospitable, so a polite greeting and a friendly demeanor go a long way. Be mindful of noise levels, especially in residential areas like Hollywood Subd, and dress modestly when visiting churches or religious sites.

For safety, Tagaytay City is generally considered a safe destination for tourists. However, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. In case of emergencies, local police can be reached at their hotline numbers, which are readily available online.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is crucial for getting around Tagaytay and finding your way to attractions and restaurants. Ride-hailing apps can also be useful for getting around if you don't have your own vehicle. For communication, ensure you have a messaging app like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger to stay connected with family and friends.

Pros: great location! Spacious beds. Spacious comfort room. Spacious storage space. Ok yung tv. Cons: the aircon warms up in the long run. The toilet bowl is not that clean - there is still a poop seat. I cleaned it myself. There are ants on the bed and on one side of the wall.

We were so disappointed with our room. Well I can't tell that we got we paid for because we know other hotels/room for rents around Tagaytay that offers the same price but with better service. The room looks so old. The bed sheets have stains. They don't even have a comfy blanket, they just provided this very thin stained white cloth. Worst part? The bathroom!! There's this unexplained smell and the shower is very dirty and the water coming out from it is so limited. We tried asking for a pail and dipper but we were informed that all pails were dirty!! The staffs were not friendly and accommodating. This is the worst hotel/room accommodation for us. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone.

I stayed in room R which is good for 2 persons. Quiet expensive if you are alone as they don’t offer for free breakfast. The bedroom is nice, with quiet view of the lake. My bad, it was raining that day, I did not enjoy it. The bathroom was really dirty. I saw cockroaches. The smell is not hotel-like. More of an old house. It was not properly maintained. Though, staffs are nice and polite. I commend them.

The standard room given to us was great despite being on a discount. Breakfast was ok, with a good view. Staff is very nice. Location quite far from the restaurants but there are tricycles everywhere and we don't have to deal with the traffic upon going back to manila, either via slex or aguinaldo high way. I think, we found our favorite hotel in tagaytay.

The spot is perfect on view. The bedroom is spacious and the cost is affordable. Amenities and wifi is great! I was able to work with good connection. Just one downside though, the blanket is new but the bedsheet is not. I felt itchy.

We love the location of this hotel. A lot of restaurants near the area. Front desk is always available and very accommodating.

You will get what you pay for. Not so neat linens, parking is a little bit hassle but the staff are friendly and very nice.

With the service I am good with the hospitality. But the room we got, its expectation vs reality.

All in all, it was okay. Location is great. The room is okay but the toilet flooring needs to be fixed.

The place is cozy. Very convenient location. Although I hope that the staff is more attentive to their guests and make sure that complimentaries are already prepared upon check-in.

Intercom didn't work. We had to call their landline just to get them to fix a number of things in the room
