Everything is great here. It’s peaceful, there’s exclusive beach, and the food at their restaurants are excellent. Their staffs are also very accommodating. And if you’re planning to stay here I suggest you get the deluxe cottage room! Coz waking up with a beautiful sea view and hearing the sound of the waves will be worth your money. Room 104, 105, and 106 have the best view!

Great stay close to the ferry pier. The dining/breakfast area had a great view and wonderfully cool breezes. Hot water was a bit on and off and a minor gripe... the a/c and fan were great but it would be nice to have something slightly thicker than a sheet to sleep under ... or an extra blanket. Otherwise a very enjoyable hotel!

Great resort! Comfortable room, good breakfast buffet. Best part of this place is the beach area with loungers, and great snorkeling right off shore. The hotel amenities list a pool, but its a small dipping pool in front of the spa, not very appealing and we didn't see anyone use it. However, a pool isn't really needed with such great access to the beach swimming.

Your Travel Guide to Daanbantayan as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Daanbantayan from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most efficient way to reach Daanbantayan from Manila is by air. You can book a flight to Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB). Numerous airlines operate this route daily, with flight durations typically around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Fares can vary significantly based on the season and how far in advance you book, but budget-conscious travelers can often find deals. From CEB, you will then need to travel to Maya Port.

From Mactan-Cebu International Airport, the journey to Maya Port in Daanbantayan takes approximately 3 to 4 hours by land. You can opt for a taxi, a pre-booked private transfer, or public buses that head north. Bus fares are considerably cheaper than private transport, ranging from PHP 300 to PHP 500, depending on the bus company and type. This leg of the journey offers glimpses of Cebu's diverse landscapes as you travel up the island.

Once you reach Maya Port, a short boat ride of about 30-45 minutes will take you directly to Malapascua Island, where Tepanee Beach Resort is located. The boat fare is typically around PHP 100-200. For those coming from other major Philippine cities like Davao or Iloilo, you would first need to fly into Cebu (CEB) and then follow the same land and sea route. Planning your trip and booking your flight in advance can help manage costs and ensure a smoother travel experience.

Best Time to Visit Daanbantayan

The dry season, generally from November to May, is considered the best time to visit Daanbantayan and Malapascua Island. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, calm seas, and lower humidity, which are ideal conditions for beach activities, diving, and island hopping. The peak tourist season falls between December and February, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices during this period.

For travelers seeking a balance between good weather and fewer crowds, the shoulder months of November, March, April, and May are excellent choices. The weather remains favorable, and you'll likely find more competitive rates for flights and accommodations. The wet season, from June to October, can bring occasional heavy rains and rougher seas, which might affect boat transfers and some outdoor activities, though prices are typically lower during this time.

Food and Dining Near Daanbantayan — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to the Philippines is complete without indulging in local cuisine, and Daanbantayan offers a taste of Cebu's culinary delights. A must-try is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish, usually tuna or tanigue, is marinated in vinegar, calamansi juice, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. It’s a refreshing appetizer that perfectly complements the tropical climate, often found in local eateries and resorts.

Another Cebuano specialty you should seek out is Lechon. While available throughout the Philippines, Cebu's lechon is particularly famous for its crispy skin and succulent, flavorful meat, often seasoned with a blend of spices. Many restaurants in Daanbantayan and surrounding areas will offer this iconic dish, making it a centerpiece for any celebratory meal or a hearty lunch.

For seafood lovers, grilled fish and other fresh catches are abundant. Given its island location, Malapascua offers an array of seafood prepared in simple yet delicious ways. Look for grilled squid (pusit), prawns, and various local fish, often seasoned with salt and pepper and grilled over charcoal. Enjoying these fresh from the sea is a characteristic Filipino dining experience.

Don't forget to try local Filipino snacks and desserts. Halo-halo, a popular mixed-dessert with shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, and leche flan, is a perfect way to cool down. You might also find local delicacies like budbud (sticky rice rolls) or various fruit shakes made from fresh mangoes and coconuts, readily available at local markets and small food stalls.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Daanbantayan

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When visiting Daanbantayan and Malapascua, embracing this spirit by being respectful of local customs is key. Always greet people with a smile, and use polite terms like "po" and "opo" when speaking to elders. Dress modestly when visiting local villages or churches. Understanding and appreciating the local way of life will greatly enhance your travel experience.

Safety in Daanbantayan and Malapascua is generally good, as these are popular tourist destinations. However, it's always wise to take standard precautions. Keep your valuables secure, be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit places late at night. For any emergencies, local police can be contacted through standard emergency numbers, and it's advisable to have the resort's contact information readily available.

To make your trip smoother, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is crucial for getting around, especially if you plan to explore independently. A translation app can be helpful, though English is widely spoken in tourist areas. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are commonly used by locals and travelers alike. Having these tools can significantly improve your convenience and connectivity.

For booking transportation and activities, Traveloka is an indispensable app. It allows you to easily book flights, hotels, and attractions, often with exclusive deals. Having these digital tools at your fingertips ensures you can manage your itinerary efficiently and make the most of your time in Daanbantayan, from securing your accommodation to planning your daily excursions.

All was great, except the beach is no longer accessible as it is now part of a Marine Protected Area. Also, like most of the Philippines, corals in the area are badly damaged by dynamite fishing, and reefs are severely overfished.

Beautiful setting, fantastic staff, all you need for a relaxing switch-off. Stunning sunset views from our room. Facilities all quite rustic, but this added to the charm of the place. The restaurant was a cut above the usual nearby, with good Italian options and great cocktails. The property is right next to a fantastic area for snorkelling. The staff are all well trained and happy to help. Would definitely recommend

This place is amazing! The resort is even pretty than the pics. The location is awesome (the best on the island), the landscaping is beautiful, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The owner, and Italian guy named Andrea, even introduced himself to us. We stayed in one of the 6 rooms buildings on the top floor and had an amazing view of the ocean all around us, so you don't even have to be in one of the individual cabanas to enjoy the view. The breakfast that is included is pretty extensive and delicious, the bed was comfortable, and the AC worked great. Note that there are a lot of steps to go up and down to get to all of the rooms and the restaurants and I don't believe there is any handicap access. So, if you can't climb stairs easily I would stay elsewhere.

On-site Italian couple very responsive, personable, resort owners. Staff was first rate. H/E we needed to switch rooms to get awesome fast internet service initially - then typhoon Ursala knocked it out completely. Management coped well with typhoon Ursala direct hit. Room was small and ac barely adequate. Generator power kept the ac going except for a few hour long interruptions. However we lost hot water after the typhoon. Private beach but no swimming pool. Best restaurant on the island. Red ants were a problem on the property after the typhoon.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable, really good WiFi, great shower, friendly staff and good food/service. Tepanee beach is lovely with good snorkelling (just be careful of the sea urchins as you need to wade out a bit first) and plenty of sun loungers. Very much enjoyed our stay and even extended a bit longer than we had originally planned!

My husband and I had the most relaxing stay at Tepanee Beach Resort. The staff were exceptional, the room and view - absolutely spectacular. Our room came with its own cat, total bliss for a mad cat lover. Our 2 weeks went by so slowly, most holidays seem to fly, right? The locals made our stay, definitely a third world way of living and not for the faint hearted traveler, but eye contact, a smile and a nod of recognition will bring such joy to a local and warm your heart, we never stopped smiling. An absolute joy, we'll be going back to Tepanee Beach Resort for sure - already planning our next trip. My only advice, check the weather, we were there in November - turns out it was the end of the wet season, very humid with the occasional shower, which for a drought sticken Australian, was bliss. We walked in the rain, which the locals found amusing, but understood when we explained how dry it is at home. My husband and I have decided it is the most relaxed, beautiful holiday we have ever had. We have travelled through Asia many times, so, this is a really big statement from us.

Great location few minutes walk to all great dive shops and restaurants. Excellent snorkeling on their Private beach. I stayed at three other places on the island , their water to shower with was barely noticeable of salinity . The other places were three times as much . I will definitely go back the next chance I get .

All was great, except the beach is no longer accessible as it is now part of a Marine Protected Area. Also, like most of the Philippines, corals in the area are badly damaged by dynamite fishing, and reefs are severely overfished.
