The property is up on a hill offering great view of the town/harbor. The hotel is a little older but very clean with spacious rooms that are quiet. Shower is spacious with excellent water pressure. The food selection at breakfast was great and tasty as well as dinner at the Forest Grill was excellent and very delicious. Staff is friendly and excellent customer service.

Staff was excellent. I rated the room fair because there was soap scum in the shower and one of the table lamps plastic switch was broken and could cause a shock hazard. Also the patio was filthy (see photo) and outside second floor looking over the pool, the wood was rotten and nails were export. The breakfast was adequate. The pancit canton at the outside restaurant was excellent.

Several bus companies operate routes from major terminals in Metro Manila, such as Cubao or Pasay, directly to Mariveles. The journey typically takes around 4 to 5 hours, depending on traffic conditions and the specific route taken. Bus fares are generally affordable, making it a budget-friendly option for many Filipino travelers.

If you prefer to fly, the nearest international airports are in Manila. From there, you would need to take a bus or arrange for private transportation to Mariveles. Booking your book flight to Manila in advance through Traveloka can help you secure better prices and ensure a smoother travel experience. Once you arrive in Bataan, local transportation options like jeepneys and tricycles are available to get you around.

Driving offers flexibility, allowing you to stop at points of interest along the way and explore at your own pace. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition for the journey, and consider using GPS navigation to guide you.

Best Time to Visit Mariveles

The Philippines generally experiences a tropical climate, and Mariveles is no exception. The dry season, typically from November to April, is often considered the best time to visit. During these months, you can expect sunny days and lower chances of rain, making it ideal for outdoor activities, exploring the coast, and enjoying the natural beauty of Bataan. Temperatures are warm, so packing light clothing is essential.

The wet season, from May to October, brings with it higher humidity and the possibility of typhoons and heavy rainfall. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it can disrupt travel plans and limit outdoor excursions. If you choose to visit during this time, it's wise to stay updated on weather forecasts and have indoor alternatives planned. Regardless of the season, Mariveles offers a unique charm that can be appreciated year-round.

Food and Dining Near Mariveles — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When in Mariveles, Bataan, Filipino travelers should definitely seek out local culinary delights that showcase the region's fresh produce and seafood. One must-try is the Kinilaw na Tanigue, a Filipino version of ceviche where fresh fish is "cooked" in vinegar, often with ginger, onions, and chili. The tangy and fresh flavors are a perfect reflection of coastal cuisine.

Another local specialty to savor is the Bataan version of Pancit. While pancit variations are found all over the Philippines, Bataan often has its own distinct preparation, sometimes incorporating local seafood or vegetables. It’s a hearty and flavorful noodle dish that’s a staple in Filipino gatherings and a comforting meal for any traveler.

Seafood lovers will find plenty to enjoy. Grilled or fried fresh catch, such as lapu-lapu (grouper) or bangus (milkfish), is a common and delicious offering in many local eateries. Enjoying these simple yet flavorful dishes, often served with rice and a side of soy sauce and calamansi, is a characteristic Filipino dining experience.

Don't forget to try local snacks and delicacies. Depending on the season, you might find fresh fruits like mangoes or lanzones. Exploring local markets or small carinderias (eateries) is the best way to discover these authentic tastes and support local vendors. These culinary explorations add a rich dimension to your travel experience.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Mariveles

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. In Mariveles, you'll likely encounter friendly locals who are proud of their heritage. It's always appreciated to show respect for local customs; a simple "po" and "opo" when addressing elders goes a long way. Understanding basic greetings in Tagalog can also enhance your interactions.

Safety in Mariveles is generally good, especially within the Freeport Area. However, as with any travel, it's wise to remain aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas or when using public transport. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying excessive wealth. For emergencies, know that the Mariveles Health Service Cooperative Hospital is nearby for medical needs.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for getting around. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Viber are widely used by Filipinos. If you plan on using ride-hailing services or checking local transport schedules, having those apps installed can be very helpful.

It's also a good idea to have the Traveloka app on your phone. It allows you to manage your bookings, access hotel information, and even discover local attractions and activities, making your trip planning and on-the-ground experience much smoother. Property was in a state of aging and lack of upkeep. Air conditioner worked but loud. shower stall leaked across floor. Pool closed on first door and then later opened. Area down the hill very busy and crowded at night with confusing one ways and street guards. Basic place for locals (one night) but not much for foreigners. Hotel that is past its prime and used by some locals for work stay.

We booked several rooms for 1-2 nights. The room and bed sizes had always been exceptional and are priced relatively reasonable although slightly on the higher side if you consider the location. The hotel is a bit dated and rooms / amenities would need to be improved, i.e. gym - not sure if equipment are working and it does not look to be maintained, the rooms and bathrooms are clean but fixtures are not maintained well (bidet in our bathroom worked but you needed to flush to turn it off...it won't turn off if you depress). Buffet menu, apparently, is now subject to guests booked so if there happens to be less for a day then you are asked to choose from a set menu (single serving!) which we felt was not really fair.

Probably one of the better places to stay in Bataan, however the hotel is now dated and has little investment for some time. Whilst our room and bathroom were clean and provided a good stay.. the overwhelming feeling is one of faded grandeur. Peeling paint, broken light switches, the pool os green and cloudy..not clean and blue. Breakfast was ok, but limited menu. Staff around the hotel offering good friendly service, trying hard to raise this old lady of a hotel from the grave.

This is a relaxing and quiet property up on a hill. There’s a lovely view from the terrace. The spa is small but provides high quality service. The central restaurant is beautifully decorated, but I’ve had more lavish spreads at other Oriental properties. There is not much sightseeing in the area, so come if you want to just unwind, swim in the pool, and get a massage.

The staff were amazing!!! We made some request that we thought they could not deliver but they did. The only thing that I am not satisfied is there pillow, it had a hard cover and should not be intended to use for sleeping. Those pillows look like throw pillows only. But they only had 1 soft pillow per guest. Requesting for additional soft pillow will run you 200 pesos each

The hotel really was wonderful however the property appears to have no maintenance, upon arrival the room safe did not work the refrigerator did not chill even water, the air cons grill was broken. The staff was apologetic and they fixed what they could but it just seemed this could be taken care of prior to arrival of customer. The food layout was wonderful. We did arrange for their spa services but when arriving for our appointment the appointment was never booked, they offered services but had only one massagist to accommodate so they did not have an opening until 9 pm we thought despite confusion this could have been avoided by bringing in another massage assistant. Over all grade is fair for price.

It was really a nice and cozy place at an affordable booking price. The location was just only too far. We travelled from Manila to Mariveles for 5 hours by bus and rode a tricycle to the hotel. There are no near convenience stores around the area of the property but they are offering a free shuttle service until 12 midnight if you want to go out. The personnels were all accomodating. Food was pricey but tasted good. We loved the free breakfast buffet that came with our booking. The room is clean and comfortable. My friends and I had a great staycation experience.

Uncomfortable stay. So noisy even at late night. People were playing billiards, Wooden football. We asked the people at the front desk to address our complain, but they did nothing. Even during our breakfast, kids were moving around with their bikes at the restaurant, but nobody stop this boy! Sad to say we had to leave this hotel...Never again

Property not value for money. Poor cleanliness. With mice and cockroaches. Shower are not safe. Buffet food are not good. They should maintain the hotel if they want guests to stay. Not recommended.

I need to check out early so I can go get my required COVID 19 RT PCR TEST for my return to the US, credit was not given and no receipt of my stay. Reason: booking was made online. Complimentary coffee- 2package and 1 little bar soap for the whole stay. Exhaust Blower in bathroom very noisy. Dissapointed. Never again...
