From Tacloban Airport, The Oriental Leyte is a relatively short drive. Taxis and private car hires are readily available at the airport. The journey to Palo takes about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic. This makes flying a convenient option for reaching your accommodation swiftly.

For those who prefer land travel or are coming from nearby Visayas provinces, bus services operate to Tacloban City. From Tacloban, you can then take a local jeepney or a taxi to Palo. While this option is more time-consuming, it can be a more budget-friendly choice for some travelers.

Best Time to Visit Palo

The period between June and October often brings more frequent rain showers, characteristic of the Philippines' tropical climate. While it might not rain all day, be prepared for occasional downpours. Traveling during the shoulder months, like November or May, can offer a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

Consider planning your trip around local festivals if you wish to experience the region's cultural celebrations. However, be aware that accommodation and transportation might be more in demand during these times. For a comfortable and enjoyable exploration of Palo, aim for the drier months.

Food and Dining Near Palo — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When in Palo, Leyte, be sure to sample some of the region's culinary delights. A local specialty you should try is Kinilaw, a Filipino version of ceviche, where fresh raw fish is cured in vinegar, often with ginger, onions, and chili. Don't leave Leyte without trying Binagol, a unique dessert made from taro, coconut milk, and sugar, often served in a banana leaf or a shell. Its rich, sweet, and slightly earthy flavor is a delightful end to any meal. You can find these dishes in local eateries and restaurants around Palo and Tacloban.

For a taste of the sea, grilled seafood is abundant and always a good choice. Freshly caught fish, prawns, and squid are often prepared simply to let their natural flavors shine. Exploring local markets and small carinderias will give you an authentic taste of Leyte's cuisine.

We stayed overnight got two quadruple rooms for my family. Our room is very far away from the entrance lobby and restaurant, considering we have two senior citizens and babies. Room is okay, Toilet Seat stained, No Fridge No miNi bar, No Slippers, They have complimentary coffee but No Electric kettle. The Breakfast buffet is Okay! But I think the fruits are not fresh. My Sister had a Diarhea from eating the Pancit canton. The swiming pool is not clean, water is itchy, the floor sides of the pool are slimy. there’s no Beach towel provided after you swim, I askd the hotel staff twice. They ignored me The towel Didn’t came. Security is strict, they keep on asking what is our room number and how many persons. We had our dinner in the restaurant, they had fire dance shows. We waited almost one hour before our food arrive. Food Menu prices are expensive, small serving and is good only for one maybe two people. I like the lobby and surroundings but the plants are not well maintained. Insects and mosquitoes are everywhere. Better bring some insect repellent if you are planning to stay here. They have water fountain in between two buildings but the water is green with fungus and had a bad smell. I would not recommend this Hotel to anyone.

We're ranking it 'awesome' more because of its potential, and given that we had it for a discount. The place is beautiful-- the lobby is inviting, very much like some resorts you would see in Phuket or Bali, but please be informed that the seafront view is being constructed so it distracts the whole appeal. Check-in was slow, it's as if they didn't know we were booked ahead. Internet was also slow. There were also limitations with food availability, because not everything in the menu is available when we asked. Breakfast the following morning, however, is superb. Our room was spacious and clean, and the big glass windows is refreshing. Other than these hits and misses the staff are friendly and polite. We believe it could get better once its fully operational.
