Your Travel Guide to Quezon City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Quezon City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is the most common method. Major airlines operate frequent flights from key cities like Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo to Manila. You can find competitive fares, often ranging from PHP 2,000 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and how far in advance you book. Travel time from these cities to Manila is typically between 1 to 2 hours. Once you land at NAIA, you can take a taxi, ride-sharing service, or airport bus to reach Quezon City, a journey that can take approximately 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on traffic. Consider using Traveloka to book your flight for a seamless travel experience.

If you prefer land travel, bus services are available from various provincial hubs directly to terminals in Metro Manila, such as Cubao or Pasay. For example, a bus trip from Baguio City to Cubao might cost around PHP 500 to PHP 700 and takes about 4 to 6 hours. From these bus terminals, you can easily connect to Quezon City via taxi, ride-sharing apps, or the MRT/LRT train systems.

Driving your own vehicle is also an option, utilizing major expressways like the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) or South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) depending on your origin. Toll fees can add up, so factor this into your budget.

Quezon City itself is a major hub, and getting around is facilitated by its extensive road network and public transportation. The MRT and LRT lines are crucial for navigating between different districts efficiently, especially during peak hours. Jeepneys and buses also ply numerous routes, offering a very affordable way to travel within the city. For a more comfortable and direct journey from the airport or other parts of Metro Manila to your accommodation like The Sulo Riviera Hotel, ride-sharing services are widely available and offer transparent pricing.

Best Time to Visit Quezon City

The Philippines experiences a tropical climate, and Quezon City is no exception, with generally warm temperatures year-round. The dry season, typically from November to April, is often considered the best time to visit. During these months, you can expect less rainfall and more sunshine, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions. Temperatures usually range from 25°C to 32°C, with humidity levels being more manageable compared to the wet season.

The wet season runs from May to October, characterized by higher humidity and frequent rain showers, sometimes heavy and prolonged. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it can disrupt outdoor plans. However, the rain often comes in short bursts, and you can still enjoy your visit by planning indoor activities or being prepared with an umbrella and rain gear. The Christmas season, from September to December, is also a popular time due to festive decorations and cooler temperatures, though it can be crowded.

For travelers looking to avoid the largest crowds and potentially find better deals on flights and accommodation, the shoulder months of the dry season, such as November or February, can be ideal. These periods offer pleasant weather without the peak holiday rush. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Quezon City offers a dynamic experience with its blend of modern amenities and cultural heritage.

Food and Dining Near Quezon City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Quezon City, like the rest of Metro Manila, is a culinary playground for Filipinos, offering a diverse range of flavors that reflect the country's rich gastronomic heritage. One dish you absolutely must try is **Adobo**. Whether it's chicken or pork, the savory and slightly tangy taste derived from soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns is a national comfort food. You'll find countless variations, from the classic soy-based version to those with a touch of coconut milk.

Another Filipino favorite is **Sinigang**, a sour soup that comes in various broths, most commonly tamarind-based. It’s packed with meat (pork, beef, or fish) and an assortment of vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. The sourness is incredibly refreshing and pairs perfectly with steamed rice. It’s a hearty and flavorful dish that truly represents Filipino home cooking.

For those who enjoy grilled delicacies, **Lechon Kawali** is a must. This is deep-fried pork belly, resulting in incredibly crispy skin and tender, juicy meat. It's typically served with a dipping sauce of soy sauce and vinegar, often with chopped onions and chili. The satisfying crunch and rich flavor make it a popular choice for celebrations and everyday meals alike.

Don't leave Quezon City without trying **Kare-Kare**, a rich stew made with oxtail, tripe, and vegetables in a thick, savory peanut sauce. It's traditionally served with bagoong (fermented shrimp paste) on the side, which adds a salty counterpoint to the sweetness of the sauce. The combination of tender meat and the unique peanut flavor is a culinary adventure. You can find these dishes and more in local eateries and restaurants throughout Quezon City.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Quezon City

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals in Quezon City, a friendly demeanor and respectful attitude go a long way. It's common to use terms like "po" and "opo" when addressing elders or those in authority as a sign of respect. While English is widely spoken, learning a few basic Tagalog phrases like "Salamat" (Thank you) can be appreciated. Quezon City is generally safe for tourists, but like any large urban area, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places.

To ensure a safe and smooth trip, it's recommended to avoid displaying expensive items openly and to be cautious of your belongings, particularly in public transport and busy markets. Keep your valuables secure and be mindful of petty theft. For emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911. It's also a good idea to have the contact numbers of your hotel and the local police precinct readily available. Staying informed about your immediate surroundings and trusting your instincts are key.

For navigating and enhancing your travel experience in Quezon City, several mobile applications can be very useful. Ride-sharing apps like Grab are essential for convenient and relatively affordable transportation around Metro Manila. Google Maps is indispensable for navigation, helping you find your way around the city and estimate travel times. For food exploration, apps like Zomato or local food blogs can guide you to popular dining spots. Lastly, a reliable weather app will help you plan your day, especially during the unpredictable rainy season.

The place itself is beautiful like a hidden paradise in the middle of a bustling city. On the other hand, we were given a room without a window. We requested for a room with balcony and one that's next to the pool. The front desk staff willingly looked for another room to fit our preference but to no avail. Since we've already booked through app, we had no choice but to settle in the only available room which did not have a bathtub either (it was in the listings that the room has one) I hope they verified first if they can cater our special request before approving our booking. Nonetheless, we had a comfortable sleep that night and the buffet breakfast was fine. Also, the hotel needs a little refurbishing as the place is dated. The pool's floor needs repainting, too. Overall, we had a average hotel stay. Thank you, Sulo Riviera.

I'm with my wife for first time to Manila and enjoy the stay at this hotel. Great location, easy to find food, taxi and also Uber service. It was advised that we need at least 3 hours to reach airport and the location of the hotel is far from NAIA airport.

The tables/desk weren't properly cleaned. Some stuff inside the room were dusty even the bible they have inside the drawer was dusty. Sheets, towels and robes thou were clean thats the most important thing. The pool is not suitable for those who cant swim because acc to the staff its 5-10ft deep. For me its worth what I paid for... Breakfast buffet was okay and staff were awesome.

Staffs are friendly but is not overall worth it for the price, toilet flush not working, aircon leaking, computer monitor for a tv?!! Some irritating bugs

I had a great time and experience in staying at the hotel. They have a bar and restaurant if you need to entertain yourself and if you want to relax and unwind they also have a very nice and cozy swimming pool. The food is pretty much good and the staff are very accommodating and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone and will definitely come back again to book for another staycation here at The Sulo Riviera Hotel.

The hotel is simple yet elegant. The staffs are accommodating, gives good service, easy to talk with. Food: breakfast buffet is good enough fruits, cereals, coffee, breads, rice, viand. Room service food is good I recommend club sandwich. The housekeeper is nice. He makes an extra effort.

We booked 3 rooms for wedding prep. The reception attendants were very nice. Had a wonderful experience. Rooms are nice, better than it was before. Breakfast is good too but it would better if they have more choices.
