Your Travel Guide to Quezon City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Quezon City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For many Filipinos traveling from other parts of the country, flying into Metro Manila is the most efficient option. The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) serves as the main gateway. From various Philippine cities like Cebu, Davao, or Iloilo, you can find frequent flights. Prices can vary significantly based on the season and how far in advance you book, but budget-friendly options are often available if you plan ahead. Consider using Traveloka to book flight tickets to find the best deals.

Once you land at NAIA, you have several choices to reach Quezon City. Taxis and ride-sharing services are readily available, offering direct transport to your accommodation. The journey can take anywhere from 45 minutes to over an hour, heavily depending on traffic, which is a well-known characteristic of Metro Manila. For a more economical option, you can take an airport bus or a combination of LRT/MRT lines, though this requires more transfers and navigation.

If you are traveling from nearby provinces or cities within Luzon, taking a bus is a common and cost-effective method. Numerous bus terminals in Metro Manila serve routes from various regions. From these terminals, you can then take a taxi, ride-sharing service, or local public transport like jeepneys or buses to reach your specific destination in Quezon City. Bus fares are generally much lower than airfare, making it a popular choice for many Filipino travelers.

Best Time to Visit Quezon City

Quezon City, like much of Metro Manila, experiences a tropical climate. The best time to visit for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. During these months, you can expect less rainfall and more sunshine, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions. Temperatures are warm year-round, so light clothing is always recommended.

The period from December to February is often considered the most pleasant, with slightly cooler temperatures and lower humidity compared to the hotter months of March to May. While this is also a peak tourist season, especially around the holidays, the weather is generally more comfortable for sightseeing. If you prefer to avoid the largest crowds, consider visiting in November or late January to early February.

The wet season, from May to October, brings frequent rain showers, which can sometimes be heavy and prolonged. While this might deter some outdoor plans, it also means fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices. If you don't mind carrying an umbrella and are prepared for occasional downpours, visiting during the wet season can still be a rewarding experience, allowing you to discover the city's indoor attractions and enjoy a more relaxed pace.

Food and Dining Near Quezon City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Metro Manila is complete without indulging in classic Filipino dishes. Adobo, a savory and tangy dish of meat (often chicken or pork) braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a national favorite. You can find excellent versions in many local eateries and restaurants throughout Quezon City, offering a comforting taste of home.

Another must-try is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, typically made with tamarind broth, meat (like pork or fish), and a variety of vegetables such as kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. Its distinct sourness is incredibly refreshing, especially on a warm day. Many carinderias and restaurants serve this hearty soup, providing a delicious and authentic culinary experience.

For those with a sweet tooth, Halo-Halo is an iconic Filipino dessert that you absolutely must sample. This colorful concoction is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It's the perfect way to cool down and satisfy your cravings after a day of exploring. Look for it in dessert shops or even some restaurants.

Don't forget to try Lechon Kawali, crispy fried pork belly that is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. The crunchy skin and tender meat make for an irresistible dish, often served with a side of dipping sauce. It's a popular choice for celebrations and casual dining alike, and you'll find it readily available in many Filipino restaurants. Exploring these flavors is a key part of the travel experience.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Quezon City

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals, a polite greeting like "Magandang umaga" (Good morning) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. Respect for elders is also important, so using terms like "po" and "opo" when speaking to older individuals is a sign of good manners. Embrace the friendly atmosphere and engage with the local community.

When it comes to safety in Quezon City, like any large urban area, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. Stick to well-lit and populated areas, especially at night. If you are using public transport, be mindful of your belongings. For any emergencies, the national emergency hotline number is 911.

For navigating the city and staying connected, several apps are highly recommended for Filipino travelers. Grab is essential for booking rides and food delivery, making transportation and dining convenient. Google Maps is invaluable for directions and public transport information. GCash or Maya are useful for mobile payments, allowing you to pay for goods and services easily without carrying too much cash.

Familiarizing yourself with basic Filipino phrases can also enhance your interactions and show respect for the local culture. While English is widely spoken, making an effort with the local language is always appreciated. Understanding local customs, such as removing your shoes before entering someone's home, will help you navigate social situations smoothly and ensure a more pleasant and respectful visit.

we actually left a day early because this place was so nasty. the couch was disgusting, it looked like it had hosted a few 70s swinger parties with the love stains to prove it. bathroom had little to no water in the shower, toilet wouldnt flush for us. had roaches and lizards running around. the location was bad as well. couldnt get a taxi or a trike at all. so we ended up booking another room some where else and left a night early. i will say the staff was super friendly and helpful though, not their fault the hotel is run down and needs to be updated.

The staff were very helpful. It was easy access and the food was nice snd cheap. For the price, it is okay. Don't expect a 5 star accommodation. Issues: no hot water (shower), no elevator (you can't have heavy luggages if you will be on the higher floors), it can be noisy but it all depends on your sleeping habits. Overall, it is Good for transit stays.

we actually left a day early because this place was so nasty. the couch was disgusting, it looked like it had hosted a few 70s swinger parties with the love stains to prove it. bathroom had little to no water in the shower, toilet wouldnt flush for us. had roaches and lizards running around. the location was bad as well. couldnt get a taxi or a trike at all. so we ended up booking another room some where else and left a night early. i will say the staff was super friendly and helpful though, not their fault the hotel is run down and needs to be updated.
