Your Travel Guide to Masbate City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Masbate City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

Traveling to Masbate City from Manila and other major Philippine hubs is primarily done via air or sea. For air travel, flights are available to Moises R. Airport (MBT) in Masbate City. Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific often operate routes, with fares typically ranging from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 for a round trip, depending on booking time and promotions. The flight duration is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. You can easily book flight tickets to Masbate through Traveloka.

Alternatively, ferry services are a popular and more economical option for many Filipino travelers. Ferries depart from various ports, including Manila, Cebu, and Sorsogon, heading to Masbate City's port. Travel time by sea can range from 8 to 15 hours, depending on the origin port and vessel type. Ticket prices generally fall between PHP 1,000 to PHP 2,500 for a standard or economy class seat.

For those who prefer to drive, reaching Masbate involves a combination of land travel and a ferry crossing. You would typically drive to a port like Matnog in Sorsogon, then take a roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ferry to Masbate City. This journey is considerably longer, often spanning over 24 hours, and involves various toll fees and ferry charges.

Best Time to Visit Masbate City

The ideal time to visit Masbate City generally falls within the dry season, which typically runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and lower chances of rainfall, making it perfect for outdoor activities, exploring the beaches, and enjoying the city's attractions. The weather is usually pleasant, with average temperatures ranging from 25 to 32 degrees Celsius.

The period between December and February is often considered the peak tourist season due to the favorable weather and holiday celebrations. While you'll find the most agreeable conditions, expect slightly higher accommodation prices and more crowds. For travelers seeking a more tranquil experience and potentially better deals, the shoulder months of November and March to May can be excellent choices.

The wet season, from June to October, brings with it increased rainfall and the possibility of typhoons, which can disrupt travel plans. While the province remains accessible, outdoor activities might be limited. However, this period also sees fewer tourists, offering a more intimate exploration of Masbate City for those who don't mind occasional rain showers.

Food and Dining Near Masbate City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Masbate City offers a delightful culinary scene that reflects its coastal location and agricultural roots. A must-try for any Filipino traveler is fresh seafood, prepared in various local styles. Look for dishes like grilled fish (isda inihaw), kinilaw (Filipino ceviche), and sinigang na hipon (shrimp sour soup), which showcase the bounty of the surrounding waters.

Another local specialty to savor is Bicol Express, a spicy dish made with pork, coconut milk, and chili peppers, reflecting the culinary influences of the Bicol region, which is geographically close. While not exclusively a Masbate dish, it is widely enjoyed and prepared here with local flair. You can often find this and other Filipino comfort foods in local eateries and restaurants.

Don't leave Masbate without trying some of the local delicacies and snacks. Look for freshly baked pan de sal for breakfast, often enjoyed with local coffee. For a sweet treat, try some of the local fruits or perhaps some homemade pastries. Exploring the local markets and smaller carinderias will often lead you to the most authentic and delicious culinary discoveries.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Masbate City

Masbateños are known for their hospitality and strong sense of community. When interacting with locals, a polite greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. Respecting local customs, such as dressing modestly when visiting religious sites like the Masbate Cathedral, is appreciated.

For safety, Masbate City is generally considered a safe place for travelers. However, it's always wise to exercise standard precautions: be aware of your surroundings, avoid displaying excessive wealth, and keep your valuables secure. In case of emergencies, local police can be reached at their hotline numbers, which are usually available at the front desk of your hotel.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for getting around. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Messenger are widely used. Not worth the aggravation. Photos, dining inside, room service, air conditioning, hot water are extremely poor. Serious issue with reservations. I booked through Expedia for 3 nights and the hotel had the wrong dates and never mentioned it until the last night so I had to purchase an extra night. Seriously stay away from this place! I stand by my review because its accurate and true. Going through Expedia for a refund on that extra night the hotel charged me.

Poor management Stupid systems the customer has to comply Overstaffed entrance Creepy manager Poor service No attention to customer experience or needs. The customer is there in boot camp to fill out all the steps demanded never mind help to get up huge ramp at entrance with no drive up no stalls and no bellman. Ramp is a death trap slick and wet with no cover. Room had no locks yes busted door Four people sent to verify Yup it doesn’t work But “there is cctv so it’s ok “ Um no Finally switched room Downgraded to room that was not cleaned - shavers in the shower etc smaller room with missing tv box so no tv and no this door also did not have a working card but rather given a master key which solves everything magically. Bellman threw a tantrum when I didn’t have pesos to tip him btw ihadone little carry on and didn’t request him - he didn’t demo the ac or wifi or the lock which was busted but did have a visible mini tantrum when I told h8m I don’t have change. I would have tipped him on the way out but his unprofessional reaction made me glad there was no tip. I’m not sure why there broken doors mean I get downgraded to a smaller used room with no tv but I’m telling you this place doesn’t care about service. The manager should have been on top of these maintenance matters and making it right but instead he lurks up front and sends rookies who clearly have not been trained to handle issues There were more issues…

My kids enjoyed the gigantic slide and mostly explored the pirate themed cave. Their hotel is very Disney coded!! They also have a pool for adults like me. I definitely loved their infinity pool which has water body massage beds in it. I had the pool all by myself since it’s only exclusive for checked-in guests.  So far, I have loved our stay here. Will definitely recommend it here.

I didn’t use any of the facilities except the room. The room was fairly small but comfortable. The air conditioning worked well. The water pressure in the bathroom was very good. They were able to provide me with a parking space which was very helpful. It’s a clean comfortable hotel near the airport with a pleasant staff.

Overall, the hotel was great. The staffs were very kind and courteous. The only thing that i would like to mention was the water pressure. Some times it was very low and the next day it was good.

Booked and paid for a deluxe room and since my wife was solo, I feel they did a bait and switch.

The room was nothing like in the photo. It was small for the price I paid. It did have nice hot water shower. It was quiet. The front desk gurl was very polite and helpful. I would stay here again if I could have the room in the photo.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great stay from start to finish! The staff was friendly and welcoming, the room was spotless and comfortable, and everything felt well maintained. The location was convenient, and the service really stood out. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

The staff are very nice , but the rooms amenities are not kept up to codes . There is no hot water, the towels are hard , the tv doesn’t work , you have to asked for a box to make it work . They are considered 4 star on comments i will only give them 1/5 star

Perfect spot for some fun! I was looking for a place to relax and enjoy and with my luck this hotel has it all. Now, it’s my go-to during the holidays when I’m spending time with family. Tip: Bring the kids, they will definitely enjoy the different types of swimming pools here.

Dirty stains on bed sheets, giant cockroaches and bugs in room, very hot and they want to charge you $ for water, the room was ready 2 hours early but they made me pay $ per hour to check in early after sitting in the hot sun all day! Terrible, will NEVER stay here again!
