Your Travel Guide to Coron as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Coron from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most convenient way to reach Coron from Manila and other major Philippine cities is by air. Flights typically land at Francisco B. Reyes Airport (USU) in Busuanga, Palawan. From Manila, you can expect flight durations of around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Airlines like Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific operate regular flights, with fares often ranging from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 for a round trip, depending on booking time and promotions. It's always a good idea to book flight tickets in advance, especially during peak seasons.

For travelers coming from cities like Cebu or Clark, direct flights to Busuanga might be available, or you may need to connect through Manila. The travel time and cost will vary accordingly. Once you land at Busuanga Airport, you will need to take a van transfer to Coron town proper, which takes about 40-50 minutes and usually costs around PHP 150-200 per person. From Coron town, you will then arrange for boat transfers to your specific island resort, such as Two Seasons Coron Island Resort.

While flying is the most practical option, some adventurous travelers might consider a combination of ferry and bus travel, though this is significantly more time-consuming. This usually involves taking a ferry from Manila to Puerto Princesa or El Nido, and then a bus or van to Coron. This route can take over 24 hours and is generally not recommended for those with limited time. For most Filipino travelers, the efficiency and comfort of flying make it the preferred choice for reaching Coron.

Best Time to Visit Coron

The ideal time to visit Coron, Palawan, for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to May. During these months, the weather is generally sunny with calmer seas, making it perfect for island hopping, swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities. The months of December to February are particularly pleasant, with cooler temperatures and low humidity, offering comfortable conditions for exploration.

The shoulder months of November and May can also be excellent choices, often offering slightly lower prices and fewer crowds compared to the peak season of December to February. While the wet season (June to October) brings occasional rainfall, it doesn't necessarily mean continuous downpours. Some travelers prefer this period for its lush landscapes and potentially lower accommodation rates, but it's wise to be prepared for possible weather disruptions to your itinerary.

For those planning a visit to Two Seasons Coron Island Resort, aiming for the dry season ensures the best conditions for enjoying the surrounding marine environment and island attractions. This period maximizes your opportunities for clear skies, calm waters, and overall pleasant weather for all your planned activities.

Food and Dining Near Coron — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Coron's culinary scene offers a delightful array of flavors that reflect its coastal location and Filipino heritage. A must-try for any visitor is **Kinilaw**, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh, raw fish, typically tuna or tanigue, is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, offering a tangy and refreshing taste that perfectly complements the tropical climate. You can find excellent kinilaw in local eateries around Coron town.

Another local specialty that captures the essence of Palawan is **Tamilok**. This unique delicacy, often described as "woodworm," is actually a type of saltwater clam that bores into mangrove wood. It's usually eaten raw, dipped in vinegar with garlic and chili, and while its appearance might be unusual, its briny, slightly sweet flavor is a distinct experience for adventurous eaters. Many local restaurants and even some tour operators offer this as a unique tasting opportunity.

Seafood, naturally, is a highlight in Coron. Freshly grilled fish, prawns, and squid are readily available and prepared in simple yet delicious ways. Look for dishes like **Sinigang na Hipon** (shrimp sour soup) or **Ginataang Kuhol** (snails in coconut milk) for comforting and flavorful meals. These dishes showcase the freshness of the local catch and the rich flavors of Filipino home cooking.

Don't forget to try **Halo-Halo** for dessert. This popular Filipino treat is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It's the perfect way to cool down and satisfy your sweet tooth after a day of exploring the islands. Many small carinderias and restaurants in Coron serve this refreshing dessert.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Coron

Coron is known for its warm and hospitable local culture. The people of Palawan are generally friendly and respectful. When interacting with locals, a simple "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. Wonderful staff! The transport coming in and out of the island was excellent and everything is in order. The island itself is beautiful, accommodation is excellent and the staff are all courteous. Our kids love Evan , very nice and gentle with them. We will definitely comeback with our friends and families. Thank you so much for making our trip a wonderful vacation!!

This resort is incredible in many respects. The people are exceptional, the beds are plush and comfortable, they were wonderful about accommodating my food allergies, and took great care of us. The connection to nature was apparent and appreciated. The dive shop folks, spa staff, and nurse did a tremendous job too. The only thing I would recommend addressing would be the lack of magnifying mirrors in the bathroom and the REALLY dark area around the sink. This is several times better than a regular dive resort but those of us who need glasses would still like being able to see for personal grooming and makeup application. One poor gentleman was shaving outside his beautifully appointed room for the lighting. Other than this concern, we would like to thank everyone for a special and memorable experience! We had a lovely few days with you and so appreciated the obvious care that all of you put in to making the resort a special place.

This is a nice resort to stay over for a couple of days. It’s rather far from the main island and there is not a lot to do beyond sunbathing and swimming. The quality of accommodation is good, although the room seemed a bit small compared to others in the Philippines. Staff is polite but appears overworked. The food at the restaurant is passable for western standards. Overall, this is a good place to relax and unwind for 2-3 days

It was a wonderful experience from the staff and service, amenities, food, private tour, massage and the clinic. Thinking of coming back soon with family.

The property is outdated and poorly maintained with mold in the outdoor pool, glass on the beach and some of the cabin options had the bathroom in the bedroom without much privacy.

The food, while limited to the one restaurant, was amazingly good breakfast, lunch & dinner! Staff was quite hospitable! Recreation options were good No half day tours available and no hiking paths etc on island but beaches and sand bar to next island is available The exclusivity is nice but comes with cautionary note for weather and late arrivals from El Nido etc

The staff are excellent but many seem to have no specific duties and the property needs lots of maintenance. Tgere was mold in areas of the pool.

The spa was amazing and well priced . The service was wonderful everywhere from every single person. There is only one restaurant the food is about an 7-8/10 but service was amazing. Property views were unbeatable. Snorkeling in front of the resort amazing.
