Your Travel Guide to Dagupan as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Dagupan from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

Traveling to Dagupan from Manila is a common route for many Filipinos, primarily served by bus. Numerous bus companies operate daily trips from terminals in Metro Manila, such as Cubao and Pasay, to Dagupan City. The journey typically takes between 4 to 5 hours, with fares generally ranging from PHP 400 to PHP 600, depending on the bus company and service class. Booking your bus tickets in advance, especially during peak seasons, is a good idea.

For those who prefer air travel, the nearest major airports are Clark International Airport (CRK) and Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. From these airports, you would then need to take a bus or arrange for private transport to Dagupan. While flying directly to Dagupan is not an option, booking your flight to Manila or Clark is the first step if you're coming from distant islands or international destinations. You can easily book flight tickets for your trip to the Philippines on Traveloka.

Driving to Dagupan from Manila is also a viable option, offering flexibility and the chance to explore along the way. The primary route involves taking the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and then the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) towards Dagupan. The total travel time by car is around 4 to 5 hours, excluding stops. Toll fees can add up, so it's wise to factor this into your budget.

Best Time to Visit Dagupan

Dagupan experiences a tropical climate, with two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season typically runs from November to April, offering generally sunny days and lower humidity, making it a pleasant time for outdoor activities and exploring the city. Temperatures during these months can range from the mid-20s to the low 30s Celsius.

The wet season, from May to October, brings more frequent rainfall, often in the form of heavy afternoon showers or typhoons. While this season might see fewer tourists, it can also offer lower accommodation prices. If you plan to visit during the wet season, it’s advisable to pack rain gear and keep an eye on weather forecasts. The city is known for its festivals, so checking the local calendar for events can enhance your visit regardless of the season.

For the most comfortable weather, consider visiting during the cooler months of the dry season, from November to February. This period offers a good balance of sunshine and moderate temperatures, ideal for sightseeing and enjoying the local attractions. However, the shoulder months of April and May can also be good, though they tend to be hotter.

Food and Dining Near Dagupan — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Dagupan is renowned as the "Bangus Capital of the Philippines," so sampling their famous milkfish is an absolute must. Try *Bangus sinigang* (milkfish in sour broth), *Bangus daing* (marinated and fried milkfish), or the local specialty, *Bangus sisig* (minced milkfish with onions and spices, often served sizzling). These dishes showcase the versatility and deliciousness of this local staple.

Another Pangasinan delicacy you should seek out is *Pancit Dagupan*. Unlike other versions of pancit, this one often features a distinct reddish-orange hue from annatto and is typically made with miki noodles, shrimp, and vegetables. It’s a flavorful and satisfying noodle dish that represents the local culinary identity.

Don't leave Dagupan without trying *Kaleskes*, a hearty soup made from boiled pork and beef innards, seasoned with ginger, onions, and chili. It’s a robust and flavorful dish often enjoyed as a breakfast or late-night meal. For a sweet treat, look for *Buchi*, glutinous rice balls filled with sweet bean paste and coated in sesame seeds, fried to a delightful crisp.

You can find these local specialties in various eateries around Dagupan, from small carinderias to more established restaurants. Exploring the local markets and food stalls is also a great way to discover authentic flavors. Many of these dishes are best enjoyed fresh, so seek out popular local spots for the most authentic taste of Pangasinan.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Dagupan

Pangasinan culture is a blend of indigenous traditions and Spanish influences, reflected in its festivals, cuisine, and community values. Filipinos are generally known for their hospitality, and Dagupan is no exception. A simple greeting like "Magandang umaga/hapon/gabi" (Good morning/afternoon/evening) goes a long way. Respect for elders and local customs is appreciated.

When it comes to safety, Dagupan is generally a safe city for travelers. However, as with any urban area, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places like markets and bus terminals. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. It’s also a good practice to use reputable transportation services. In case of emergencies, local police hotlines are available.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for getting around the city and finding your way to attractions and restaurants. Ride-hailing apps or local transport apps can be useful for getting around efficiently. A translation app might be helpful if you encounter phrases you're unfamiliar with, though English and Tagalog are widely understood. Finally, having the Traveloka app handy will allow you to manage your bookings and discover more local attractions and activities.

The moment we went inside the room the smell was bad. The AC was quite hot. The bedsheet was itchy. Disappointed with the serving of their breakfast food. It was really small and the price was like 110 pesos. For that kind of serving, the price must only be around 70-80 pesos. CR was a bit dirty and foul odor too. On the positive side, staffs were attentive and responsive. Budget hotel for those people who are looking for a cheap place to stay in Dagupan, Pangasinan.

Not enough parking space. The guard was rude. He didn’t even want us to park inside saying parking is full, we insisted to allow us to park inside as we need to sleep because we are attending a funeral the next day. That’s the only time he allowed us to park inside. Not going back for sure.

We arrived before 11pm, tired from a long day of touring. The washroom had a foul smell & walls were too thin I guess that you can hear the people talk in the other room which made it hard for us to get some sleep right away. The other bed in the room we stayed also made sound whenever you would turn on the other side.

Budget hotel for those people who are looking for a cheap place to stay in Dagupan, Pangasinan.

what you see is what you get. good for an overnight stay. staff are accommodating. I suggest that the management do some about the mosquitoes in a room. recommended for those looking for a budget overnight hotel.

The room we had is a so-so and still nice for a place to stay overnight. At least they have a great wifi connection and cable tv.

Noise from outside can be heard inside the room. Air conditioning unit was not bad and toiletries are not even complete and was even sold separately.

Okay for very short stay. we arrived at 1am and rooms are ready. A/C is working fine. We left at 8am for a business errand to Calasiao, so this inn is good enough to sleep in.
