The 3 of us stayed there for 2 nights. Food: The pizza was quite good, although a bit oily, and the pasta was edible, but the french toast I had for breakfast was bland. On top of that, there was an insect stuck inside the lid of our coffee pot (they apologized and said it wasn't there when they made the coffee and that the insect must've flown inside while we were having breakfast). I would appreciate it more if they just apologized and not made any excuses because we would've seen a flying bug enter our coffee pot. And we have already drank our insect-infused coffee, so that just made it worse. The owner gave us drinks on the house later that afternoon and apologized for the inconvenience. Cleanliness: The room and common areas were clean enough for an eco resort. Bugs are to be expected and we honestly did not mind them since we knew what we were signing up for when we booked a room at an eco resort. Service: Most of the staff were unfriendly and unhelpful except for this one girl who tried her best to substitute for her coworkers' lack of service. Location: You need to take a boat to get there which was a bit of a hassle since we went there during a thunderstorm and the seas were quite rough (our bags were all wet and we were soaked from head to toe) but the view from the resort, especially our room, was amazing. Activities: They offered a range of activities and we signed up for one - the island hopping tour. Although it was more expensive than most of the tour offered by other agencies, it was worth it. We went to a few lagoons and islands on a speedboat and had our lunch served on one of the islands. This was the only enjoyable part of our stay there.

Romantic Proposal Dinner!
We were greeted by our host, Roy. Roy made our stay worthwhile and catered to all our needs. He was a fantastic host! From the moment we arrived he started the 'secret' planning for a proposal dinner on a private secluded beach. The setup of the dinner was absolutely romantic and I couldn't have asked for more. The decorations were lovely and so much effort was put in to make my now fiancé feel special. I also had the best massage I have ever had by the certified masseur, Marlin. My fiancé got her massage from a lady called, Dhawn, which was equally exceptional. We valued their talents so much that we specifically requested them again the next day even through they were both not rostered on; Roy made this possible. On a side note, some improvements need to be made given the premium you pay to stay here. Which would have made this review 5 stars. - Walking in the water from La Plage to the boat and then again from the boat to Vellago beach. - Rooms need a little more attention in regard to insects and bugs - Shower curtin needs to be charged from cheap plastic to a glass door or premium material - Full time electricity because it does get humid and hot without fan or aircon We send a massive thank you to Roy and all the lovely, attentive and kind staff of Vellago. Thank you for making our stay worthwhile!

Good, could be great
The property is what really attracted us and when you arrive it really is a wonderful place. Quality rooms and great views. Place is let down big time by management. Pros. Great private tour! Great accommodation. The beach dinner set up is really very nice. Electricity runs now until 8am which is perfect. Cons Service was lacking for the price you pay. The pickup was forced at La plage even though we stayed at outpost the night before which meant carrying bags down the beach, up the stairs an additional tricycle ride and more bag lugging. Despite being informed in advance we were there for our 1 year anniversary they made no attempt to make it special... I wanted a romantic dinner on our balcony and management said we should go for a walk along the beach so they can prepare something special. On returning to our room for dinner they had literally done nothing except light the candles that were already present on the table....wow! the explaining and make up i had to do for that! Our private tour we were given mouldy snorkel sets which we obviously didn't use. On returning I informed the management. No apologies given or any compensation for the poor quality. Next day went to go snorkelling and you wouldn't believe it every single snorkel set was mouldy, so clearly did not listen or care what i said. Overall happy with the place but very much let down by management.

You are in middle of paradise...with some minor annoyances
Just spent 6 nights at this beautiful resort. (For those reading this review, let me say that my wife & I are very picky & prissy Filipino/Americans so please be forewarned) I can totally recommend Vellago to those who are already considering it. The location is breathtaking & beautiful. The resort is actually situated on one of Tour A's stops, 7 Commando Beach so you know it's a beautiful place. Here is my readers digest version. Pros: Staff was great. Marie is the Manager & very friendly & really works hard to make sure you are happy. The entire staff was always open to any requests & were great our whole stay. It was awesome that there are only 4 rooms so the entire staff is totally dedicated to you 4. An incredible location. One that any person who sees the pics would love to stay. Snorkeling right off beach was really nice too. Didn't compare to Tour C snorkeling, but having that coral 30 meters out was awesome! Our Tours A & C were set up by Marie & the vendor was outstanding. We had the same crew, headed by Elmar, on both tours. HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU HAVE A PRIVATE BOAT. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE! Picked up on shore at La Plage as they were waiting for us even though we were a little late. This was really important as we didn't have a clue after arriving after a grueling 7 hour van trip from Puerto Princesa. (We had to use Miroju...Daytripper was sold out...) Cons: No electricity from 6am - 6pm. This only caused us a problem when we got back from the tours by 3 pm. We were both tired & it's too hot to go to room. We don't drink so Bar wasn't our thing. So we waited around till electricity kicked on. Will make you really appreciate electricity! This is the main reason for the 4 stars. You will notice when the AC cuts off at 6 am though. Bugs - I know, we are in the middle of a deserted tropical area. Just saying, be forewarned. Ants, mosquitoes, flies, moths are sharing the space with you. We used the mosquito net every night. (Not a lot of bugs in room, but they're sneaky little guys) We are City dwellers, not used to this environment. No Sprite or 7-up!!! - just Coke & Coke Lite....okay, I'm being really nit picky, but having a little more variety in soft drinks would have been lovely Food: It was good. We mainly ate in our room. We had dinner on beach one night which was great! But weather prohibited more of that. So overall, I highly recommend Vellago if you get the chance. We feel very fortunate to have stayed here. We know we are blessed to afford this luxury. In our younger days, we probably would not have minded the inconveniences, but as we age, we become used to a certain level of comfort. When the Tour A bankas dock, you have loads of visitors taking photos of your balcony wishing they could stay there. We saw the other places in town to stay; nothing even close to Vellago. You could be honestly staying at one of the most beautiful areas in the world, (small Lagoon on Tour A was just incredible)...just know it has some small peccadilloes attached.

Beautiful location with only 4 rooms
Location is beautiful. Service is great and also the rooms are great with a view you thought you would see only in your dreams. Really a paradise and worthwhile to stay here for couple of nights to relax and snorkeling.

The staff were very helpful during our stay, however, the hotel failed to communicate with us that they did not have a card machine for additional payments for the bill. This meant a daily visit to the mainland by boat - Not ideal. The max cash withdrawal was 10,000 peso so multiple trips were required. They had building work going on - It was very loud. Again this was not communicated with us. They had no toilet facilities by the beach/bar/restaurant which meant all visitors had to walk back to their rooms everytime we needed the bathroom. Being pregnant this was very frustrating for me. The kitchen was not able to offer the entire menu. More often than not the menu was very limited. Unfortunately, the food was nothing to be desired I would highly recommend the hotel to gain a qualified chef that can prepare a continental menu for his/her guests. Our breakfast orders were incorrect all but one day of our stay. The shower water was very salty. On a more positive note, I believe the hotel will eventually be one of the best in El Nido but it is definitely work in progress. The views were beautiful and the staff were helpful. The rooms are pretty and comfortable but not as private as I was expecting.
