The Hotel was very clean however i was 'bitten by ants' all the time & we were on the 2nd floor, so we had to change rooms halfway through the holiday. The breakfast was very basic not buffet like most Hotels. There were only 4 choices with lots of extra options we had to pay for. The Hotel swimming pool was open to the public so at times overcrowded..

Traveling to General Santos from Manila is most convenient by air. Several airlines operate daily flights to General Santos International Airport (GES). Bus journeys can range from 4 to 10 hours, depending on the origin city and road conditions. Fares are generally affordable, often falling between PHP 800 to PHP 1,500.

Driving to General Santos is also an option for those who prefer to travel by car. The city is accessible via the well-maintained national highways. From Davao City, for instance, the drive is approximately 3-4 hours. Be prepared for potential toll fees along the way, and ensure your vehicle is in good condition for the journey.

Best Time to Visit General Santos

The climate in General Santos is generally warm and humid throughout the year, typical of most Philippine destinations. The dry season, from March to May, offers sunny days and is ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions. This period can be considered peak season, so expect more crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices.

The wet season runs from June to February, characterized by occasional rainfall. While there might be some rainy days, they are often interspersed with sunny periods, so your travel plans don't necessarily have to be disrupted. Visiting during the shoulder months, like June or November, can offer a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer tourists.

For those interested in experiencing local festivals, the Tuna Festival usually takes place in September. This is a lively period with various events and activities celebrating the city's primary industry. If you plan to visit during this time, booking your accommodation and flights well in advance is highly recommended.

Food and Dining Near General Santos — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

General Santos is renowned for its tuna, so indulging in fresh tuna dishes is a must. Grilled tuna belly, known for its rich, succulent flavor, is a local favorite. You can find excellent preparations at local eateries and restaurants around the city, often served with soy sauce, calamansi, and chili.

Another local delicacy to try is Kinilaw na Tuna, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh, raw tuna is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, creating a tangy and refreshing dish. It’s a perfect appetizer or light meal, showcasing the freshness of the local catch.

Beyond tuna, explore other Mindanaoan flavors. Sinuglaw, a combination of grilled pork (sinugba) and tuna (kinilaw), offers a delightful mix of textures and tastes. Many local carinderias and restaurants serve this hearty dish, providing an authentic taste of the region.

Don't forget to sample local fruits and snacks. General Santos is surrounded by agricultural areas, so fresh mangoes, bananas, and other tropical fruits are readily available. Look for local delicacies like Puto Bumbong or Bibingka during festive seasons for a sweet treat.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for General Santos

General Santos is known for its friendly and hospitable people. While the primary languages spoken are Tagalog and Cebuano, English is widely understood, especially in commercial areas and hotels. A simple "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way in showing appreciation.

When it comes to safety, General Santos is generally considered safe for tourists, especially in well-populated areas like near KCC Mall. However, as with any city, it's wise to remain aware of your surroundings, avoid displaying expensive items openly, and stick to well-lit areas at night. For emergencies, local police can be reached at 911.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for finding your way around. Ride-hailing apps or local taxi booking services can be useful for getting around the city. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are widely used by Filipinos.

It's also helpful to have a currency converter app handy if you plan on shopping or dining extensively. Familiarizing yourself with basic Filipino phrases can also enhance your interactions with locals and enrich your travel experience.

The hotel is located in front of the newly opened Savemore Mabuhay branch. This hotel is an event venue so most of its area is "instagramable". Their room is well lighted and clean. The only problem is the water pressure. It is so low, that's why we had to adjust the heater all the time. Overall we had a great stay.

Hotel is jsut OK, a good shower always helps and a nice bathroom. Shower trickled out either boiling hot or cold....no in between. They offer the cheapest soaps money can buy and no floor mat which had to be requested and then it was an old ragged towel with holes. Room was basic and OK, bed and sheets nice but the bathroom was more like a dorm room in a college....at best. Staffe really nice!

The hotel is quite nice — comfortable bed and pillows. Adjoins a farmland so it is quiet. The doors do not block out noise completely so events outside along the corridor can be heard quite clearly (room was at the ground floor). The shower head needs to be changed so that it can be more serviceable. The free shuttle service to/from the airport is much appreciated.

Its very noisy outside the room maybe because there's a wedding happening outside during my stay but I understand. I left the room to have a meeting outside. When I came back my room is so clean like the first time I enter the room when I checked in. Good job to the housekeeping. I should have gave him/her a tip before I checked out but I'm in a hurry since I need to check-in at the airport. Also they serve my breakfast in my room. No hustle :)

I had booked this hotel for a 27 night stay as I was also getting married at the venue. the hotel was dirty with poor water pressure and poor wifi. The swimming pool was a health hazard. Ordering of food was very poor with long waiting times and the meal would arrive cold. For the wedding day and amongst other things the music list we chose for our wedding was not played and the master of ceremonies was poorly prepared and very rushed. Staff were generally okay but the management were very unprofessional!

Where to begin. Ants and pool fungus growing everywhere. Towels a luxury. No place to sun by pool and chairs had metal tubes protruding from fabric. Yikes.

Staff was incredibly polite and always willing to help with any request. Only complaint is the complimentary breakfast options were limited and there arent restaurants within walking distance I would definitely stay there again
