Your Travel Guide to Puerto Galera as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Puerto Galera from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For the most convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For travelers coming from Manila and other major Philippine cities, reaching Puerto Galera involves a combination of land and sea travel. The most common route starts with a bus trip from terminals in Metro Manila (like Cubao or Pasay) to Batangas Port. These bus rides typically take 2 to 3 hours and cost around PHP 200 to PHP 300, depending on the bus company and class.

From Batangas Port, you will then board a ferry or a fast craft to Puerto Galera. Several shipping lines operate this route, with travel times ranging from 1 to 1.5 hours. Ferry fares usually fall between PHP 250 to PHP 400 per person, one way. For those flying into the Philippines, booking a flight to Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is the first step, after which you can follow the bus and ferry route.

If you prefer to drive, you can take the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then the STAR Tollway towards Batangas. The drive from Metro Manila to Batangas Port takes approximately 2 to 3 hours, with toll fees adding to the overall cost. Parking is available at Batangas Port for those who wish to leave their vehicles there during their stay in Puerto Galera. Planning your trip and booking a flight in advance can often secure better rates.

Best Time to Visit Puerto Galera

The ideal time to visit Puerto Galera for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which generally runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, calmer seas, and lower chances of rainfall, making it perfect for beach activities, diving, and island hopping. The peak tourist season falls between December and February, when the weather is most pleasant, but crowds and prices can be higher.

For those looking to avoid the largest crowds while still enjoying good weather, the shoulder months of November, March, and April are excellent choices. The period from June to October marks the wet season, characterized by occasional to frequent rainfall and rougher seas. While you might find lower prices and fewer tourists during this time, outdoor activities and sea travel can be significantly affected by weather conditions.

Therefore, for a reliable and enjoyable Puerto Galera experience, aiming for the dry season, particularly outside of the Christmas and New Year holidays, is highly recommended. This ensures you can fully appreciate the natural beauty and recreational opportunities the area offers with minimal weather disruptions.

Food and Dining Near Puerto Galera — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Filipino cuisine is diverse and flavorful, and Puerto Galera offers a chance to savor local specialties alongside popular dishes. When in the area, be sure to try fresh seafood, often grilled or prepared in various Filipino styles like *sinigang* (sour soup) or *kinilaw* (Filipino ceviche). Many restaurants along the beaches serve catch-of-the-day specials, offering a true taste of the ocean.

Another local favorite you might encounter is *Adobong Pusit* (squid adobo), a savory dish made with squid braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. It’s a classic Filipino preparation that highlights the versatility of squid. For a taste of something sweet, look for local delicacies or fresh tropical fruits like mangoes and pineapples, which are abundant in the region and often used in desserts and juices.

When dining near Verde View Villas, explore the various eateries in Sabang and nearby areas. You’ll find everything from simple carinderias serving home-style Filipino meals to more established restaurants offering a wider menu. Don’t shy away from trying local *ihaw-ihaw* (grilled food) stalls for an authentic and affordable culinary adventure. Exploring these food options is part of the travel experience.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Puerto Galera

Puerto Galera is generally a welcoming place for Filipino travelers. While it’s a popular tourist destination, respecting local customs and traditions is always appreciated. Simple courtesies like greeting people with a smile and being mindful of noise levels, especially in residential areas or during quiet hours, go a long way. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people.

Safety is a priority for any traveler. In Puerto Galera, it’s advisable to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas or at night. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying large amounts of cash. For any emergencies, local police assistance can be reached through standard emergency numbers, and it’s wise to have the contact details of your accommodation readily available. The local tourism office can also provide assistance.

To enhance your trip, consider downloading a few useful apps. A reliable navigation app can help you find your way around, while a translation app might be helpful if you encounter non-English speakers, though English is widely understood in tourist areas. Weather apps are crucial for planning outdoor activities, and ride-hailing apps or local transport apps can assist with getting around. Having these tools can make your journey smoother.

The customer service have been amazing. The staff have promptly replied to all of my inquiries through messenger. The location has a private beach and guests are free to use their snorkelling gear. Although the beach is a little bit rocky, the marine life underneath is alive, perfect to snorkel around. The food was great too! Overall, I would highly recommend this to my friends and family 10/10!

Really enjoyed this romantic stay at a smaller boutique hotel. The location is a challenge to get to and the beach is off site. But those both led to being less crowded and more personal care by the staff. Loved the views here. Well worth the visit.

Nice building on top of the hill. Road to property is in very bad shape. No parking on property as mentioned. Great staff, very welcoming, especially Meean. They present you with many documents to sign including legal documents which I found very humiliating and intimidating. I didn't go there to review many pages of legal contract. The room is large, nice bed and linen, big tv with no cable but many movie options. No chairs to sit and watch tv. No hot water kettle (you ask and they bring you hot water). Shower either hot or cold (no or broken mixing valve). Looks like nice pool but we didn't use as it's located next to the outdoor restaurant and bar and many workers working, so it didn't feel comfortable being in the center while being watched. The room is dark and lacks lighting. If you open the curtain everyone can see you inside (villa room), so it wasn't comfortable to do that. Besides a good bed, the room is very uncomfortable. Their private beach is small, lots of rocks and require a very steep walk of around 300 steps. There's nothing to do outside the property, and I understand that they will give you rides to the town below (about 30 minute drive). Overall this wasn't a place I expected after reading the reviews.

Me and my wife had a wonderful stay and it exceeded our expectations. The resort was very clean and beautifully located. We stayed in villa 6 which offered a spectacular view of the sea and the mountains. I was very impressed by the customer service (especially would like to mention Meann and Myr for their service, right from the moment i booked the resort). Found the owners very friendly. We were also impressed by the things they have done in such a beautiful manner, such as rain water harvesting, solar cells back up. The staff helped us arrange a romantic dinner with country music, candles, flowers, and a lovely cake. There is nothing more you could have asked for to de-stress. The only cons is the private beach which is still not ready and the path to private beach is under construction for the moment. But nonetheless the hotel provided us snorkeling gears, such as life jacket, shoes, masks and it was all well maintained and pretty much new like.We managed to see the corals at the pvt beach. Lying in the pool on the swimming pool mattress under the stars added to the great experience. If you are looking for a place to relax and take time off from daily activities then it is a perfect place for couples and family.

I would strongly recommend the hotel. The service was professional, friendly and attentive - all the staff were absolutely excellent. The setting was beautiful and the room was very clean, chic and comfortable. A couple of negatives would be the location - it is quite a way out of town - however the setting is beautiful - and the shower only had hot water if the water trickled out - however it is a hot place so temperate showers are not a big issue. Curiously there was no access to live TV - however instead there was free access to hundreds of blockbuster films! Overall - due to the beautiful setting and the amazing staff I would strongly recommend the hotel.

This is the second time me and my partner have been to this wonderful and awesome resort. The staff and owners treated us like family and gold. Included us in their social gatherings. The rooms were absolutely gorgeous, beautiful and clean. They even had a beautiful welcome note in a picture frame, like which hotel does that!?!? *Grins* I highly recommend this resort to absolutely anyone who wants to get away from it all, see sunrises/sunsets, and stars. I will be coming back here for my honeymoon when my partner and I get married.

This boutique hotel was a amazing surprise. I really didn't like Manila, so when I took the road to go to take the ferry at Batangas to reach Sabang, I really didn't know what to expect. Once landed in Sabang, which seems to be a famous place for diving, I finally felt I arrived in a holiday destination. At the very end of a tiny road, I was not expecting to have such a nice place to stay. Located on the top of a cliff, the sunrise and sundown views have blown my mind. Room was spacious, clean, large bed, and having all the needed facilities. The swimming pool really helps to refresh and with a very nice view. There is an access to a private beach - very tiny way going down the cliff, the beach has white sand, corals, and many fishes making it a perfect place for snorkelling. Staff was friendly, and helpful. There is a bar, restaurant area which is really cute, however keep in mind breakfast is not included in the price of the room. From Sabang, you can also access Puerto Gallera, White Sand Beach and also the rest of Mindoro island. The easiest way is to rent a small motorbike or ask for the hotel to find you a driver. I am already planning to come back.

The hotel is nice and the staff was great. But the location was horrific. I was under the impression that hotel was located on the beach, not up in the hills. I might have still chosen the hotel if I had had a choice. Also the food was over priced. And last it had a roach problem..

We stayed here for two nights and it was the best resort we have stayed at in a long time. It is extremely tranquil there with only a few guests around and the staff and service was world class. Everything is personalized and everyone was very friendly. We had one of the villas by the pool and the rooms were large and spacious. The private beach is small but the snorkeling there is wonderful with lots of coral and sea life to be seen. We even joined some of the staff at a street party and felt extremely welcome. Definitely would recommend to anyone who wants a quiet getaway whilst also being 5 minutes away from bars/nightlife/dive shops.

All started when the staff and owner communicated with us in regards to organizing transportation as week before we were to arrive at the resort. They were attentive, organized and thoughtful to ensure that we get to Verde Villa with no issues. We got to the Puerto Galera port, and a lovely staff member was there to greet us and take us to the resort location on the island. The resort was amazingly beautiful. We felt very welcomed and supported. The rooms were very clean, staff was very attentive. I had to get used to having the staff ask me if there was anything I wanted constantly which I was not used to but thoroughly enjoyed. The FREE iced tea was heaven enough. At night: very quiet, here the chirping of the crickets and the cute mating calls of the geckos made it memorable. Staff were also eager to ensure that our breakfast, lunch and dinner was made to our fullest satisfaction. KUDOS to the chef!!! The staff also did an amazing job of the laundry. The swimming pool was beautiful, clean and comfortable. Security was awesome, I didn't have to worry about my safety. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel to anyone who would love to just get away from it all, in fact I already did and I believe on their next trip to the Philippines they will take my recommendation.

I don't even know where to begin there's so many good things my girlfriend and I want to say about this place. 1. Location - the view is amazing. Every time we open our curtains we can see the ocean, mountains and lush trees. Very private and somewhat secluded about 10 mins away from local stores. 2. Food - my goodness the food was so tasty. The chefs were on point and the way they presented the food made it taste that much better. Also they grow or raise most their own products so you can really taste the freshness. Price of the food is on the medium high end but so worth it. 3. Staff - let's start with Anthony the owner. He was very busy with work and running the place yet he made time for us. He toured us around the entire place and made us feel like family. Next is Chrisma the manager she is the living embodiment of customer service, there isn't enough room here to mention all the awesome things she has done to make our stay magical. She took care of us so well it was unbelievable. You could really see that not only her but the entire staff would go above and beyond just so you could really feel you were on vacation. They made it as stress free and it could posibly get. This place set a new standard our eyes and we are definitely coming back. If you are reading this review all I can say is go visit and experience the magic.

Tranquility is what you get here. A rare commodity in Puerta Galera. The owner and staff are creating a quality environment based on individual service, which when complete, will be special, although when I was there it was still a work in progress. Minor problems, that I reported re shower water temperature, and Internet access, should already be sorted. The remoteness means that a bike or jeepnie transfer is necessary to get anywhere, although easily arranged. A piece of advise before coming contact the property for a full detailed explanation of exactly where to go, and how to get there, including ferry/bus transfer times. My arrival/transfer was tortuous and and a little expensive, (mainly as we were trying to communicate where phone connection and Internet are not reliable). Messages on both sides did not get through. The ferry timetable also necessitated unscheduled accommodation stops on arrival and departure via Manila. Notwithstanding this I was very happy that I chose this property. Good food, service, and beautiful vista providing ample compensation. Thanks to all.

My first trip to the Philippines and Puerto Galera. I hired a private taxi to take me from Manila to Batangas Pier. Cost 3000 php. When I arrived on Puerto Galera, I was treated like family coming home for a visit. The owner Anthony and his beautiful talented chef Chrisma picked me up and drove me in a luxurious 4x4 vehicle up to their resort. My four days there I had no desire to leave. It was home away from home. I swam for excersize and lounged in the beautifully spacious deep pool. The view of Verde island off in the distance across the bay was breath taking. All my meals were specially prepared by chef Chrisma. It was truly fine dinning with a touch of home cooking. The staff were all very nice friendly and very accommodating to your needs. I brought along my personal masseuse. But than I gave her 4 days off to be pampered. The resort arranged for both of us to receive a massage by a professional masseuse. Overall the experience staying at Verde View Villas is priceless. I wanted to keep it a secret from the world. But some secrets are best shared with all of the world, and this is one of them. I was born and raised in Hawaii where most people go for vacation. I'm looking forward to returning to Verde View Villa's for mine. Aloha

Yes, ocean is visible in the room, we didn't try the pool, but seems good. The only problem is the road going to the hotel, too stiff and narrow, you have to be a good driver. Everything is excellent, especially the staff, food is also good and so fresh when serving.
