Restored and modernized. Spacious room. Great bathroom. Good TV. Comfortable bed. In the middle of the historic district and walkable to all of the historic sites. Calesas are plentiful should you want to go further. The restaurant serves a nice Filipino food at all three meals. WiFi in the room was weak though great in the lobbys and restaurant.

Your Travel Guide to Vigan City, Vigan as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Vigan City, Vigan from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Vigan City from Manila is a popular route for many Filipinos seeking a cultural escape. The most common method is by bus, with companies like Partas and Dominion Bus Lines offering direct trips. These journeys typically depart from terminals in Cubao or Pasay and take approximately 8 to 10 hours. Fares usually range from PHP 800 to PHP 1,200, depending on the bus type (e.g., regular, de luxe).

For those who prefer to fly, the nearest airport is Laoag International Airport (LAO). From Manila, you can book flight tickets to Laoag. Flight durations are around 1 hour. Upon landing in Laoag, you can take a bus or a van to Vigan City, which is about a 2 to 3-hour drive. This option is faster but generally more expensive than taking a bus directly from Manila.

Driving your own vehicle is also an option, offering flexibility. The journey from Manila typically involves taking the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and then the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) before heading north via the Jose Abad Santos Avenue and eventually the Ilocos Sur National Highway. The total travel time can be around 8 to 9 hours, excluding stops. Toll fees can add up, so it's wise to factor this into your budget.

Best Time to Visit Vigan City, Vigan

Vigan City experiences a tropical climate, with distinct dry and wet seasons. The best time to visit for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which generally runs from November to April. During these months, the weather is typically sunny and pleasant, with lower humidity, making it ideal for walking around the heritage sites and enjoying outdoor activities.

The peak tourist season often coincides with the dry months, especially around the Christmas holidays and the summer break from March to May. If you prefer fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as November or February. The months from May to October constitute the wet season, characterized by occasional to frequent rainfall, which can sometimes disrupt outdoor plans, though Vigan remains charming even with a bit of rain.

Vigan is renowned for its distinct Ilocano cuisine, offering flavors that are both comforting and unique. A must-try is the **Vigan Empanada**, a savory pastry filled with Vigan longganisa (garlic sausage), egg, and vegetables, all encased in a crispy, orange-hued dough. You can find these delicious treats from street vendors, especially around Plaza Burgos.

Another local specialty is **Bagnet**, crispy deep-fried pork belly that is a true indulgence. Its crunchy skin and tender meat make it a favorite among many Filipinos. For a taste of Vigan's unique sausage, try the **Vigan Longganisa**, a sweet and garlicky pork sausage that is often served for breakfast or as an ingredient in other dishes. It has a distinct flavor profile that sets it apart.

Don't leave Vigan without sampling **Pinakbet**, a hearty vegetable stew made with local produce like eggplant, bitter melon, okra, and string beans, flavored with bagoong (fermented shrimp paste). It’s a healthy and flavorful dish that showcases the region's agricultural bounty. For a refreshing dessert, try **Sinanglao**, a soup made from beef innards and blood, seasoned with local spices – an acquired taste for some but a true local delicacy.

For an authentic dining experience, explore the restaurants along Calle Crisologo and the surrounding streets. Many establishments offer traditional Ilocano meals, allowing you to savor these local flavors in a charming historical setting. Trying these dishes is an integral part of understanding Vigan's culture and heritage.

Great location with immediate access to tricycles and kalesa’s, local foods and national and international chains. Breakfast tickets provided daily and respected privacy. Breakfast by menu, portion size perfect and filling. A pleasant stay even if the hotel is old/historic (i.e. squeaky floors) the room was a good size compared to other hotels in the area.

I love the surroundings which have been maintained very well. The staff are amazingly attentive and extremely helpful. My room was generous in size and very clean

The hotel needs to improve access to the internet (wi-fi). We had better access/ signal in Pagupud, Ilocos Norte. It's not enough for the front desk staff to basically say "oh well" no internet!

It wasn’t bad at all. Checking in was a bit unpleasant. They weren’t able to locate my reservation until I showed them my expedia booking.Room was okay with regards to cleanliness, though the bed creates noise with each move.

Good location, nice old building. Very noisy and very limited breakfast. Airport shuttle service promised on the site but in practice not available, better arrange transport in Laoag (when arriving by plane), either partas regiional bus (to busstation with tricycle) or private van.

The hotel maintained the beauty of Vigan. The ambiance of the place will definitely make you relax. I have no bad comment of the place. This is the only place my family and I had a good rest.

Parking was about 1/2 mile away. Rooms small, no chair, poor internet, hot water intermittent. Bathroom was 3'X4' No hooks or shelves. Staff great. Location in old City was nice. A/C was fine.

Property was authentically fitting for the historic theme of Vigan. Also, it was very central to a lot of activities. You can easily walk to the Heritage village and surrounding restaurants as well as the Burgos and Salcedo Plazas. The Burgos and National Miuseims were just walking distance from the property.

Have stayed here before and it’s good to see that the standards have held up. The only comment is that in the bathroom there should be hooks to hang towels.
