Your Travel Guide to Quezon City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Quezon City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is the most common method. You can often find competitive fares if you book flight tickets in advance, with prices potentially ranging from PHP 2,000 to PHP 6,000 or more, depending on the origin city and booking time. Travel time from major hubs like Cebu or Davao is typically around 1 to 1.5 hours.

From NAIA, you can take a taxi or a ride-sharing service directly to Quezon City, which might cost between PHP 400 to PHP 700, depending on traffic and your exact destination. Alternatively, you can use public transport by taking an airport bus or shuttle to a point where you can connect to the MRT or LRT lines that serve Quezon City.

If you are traveling from nearby provinces like Pampanga or Laguna, bus travel is a viable and economical option. Bus terminals are located throughout Metro Manila, and buses heading to various points in Quezon City are frequent. Fares typically range from PHP 150 to PHP 300, with travel times varying from 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

For those driving their own vehicles, major expressways like the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) connect to Metro Manila. Navigating through the city involves using major thoroughfares like EDSA and Quezon Avenue. Be prepared for potential toll fees, which can add up, and always factor in significant travel time due to Metro Manila's notorious traffic.

Best Time to Visit Quezon City

Quezon City experiences a tropical climate, with two main seasons: the dry season from December to May, and the wet season from June to November. The coolest months are typically from December to February, with average temperatures around 27°C, making it a pleasant time for outdoor activities and exploring the city.

The hottest months are usually from March to May, where temperatures can soar to 35°C or higher. If you prefer to avoid the heaviest rains and potential typhoons, the dry season, particularly from December to April, is generally considered the best time to visit. However, this period also coincides with peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices.

For travelers seeking a more relaxed atmosphere and potentially better deals on accommodation, the shoulder months or even the early part of the wet season can be appealing. While rain is more frequent, it often comes in short, intense bursts, and you can still enjoy many indoor attractions and activities.

Food and Dining Near Quezon City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Quezon City, like the rest of Metro Manila, is a culinary melting pot offering a wide array of Filipino flavors. When you visit, make sure to try Adobo, the national dish, a savory and tangy stew of meat (usually chicken or pork) braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. It’s a comforting and universally loved dish.

Another must-try is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, typically made with tamarind broth, meat (pork, beef, fish, or shrimp), and a variety of vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. Its distinct sourness is incredibly refreshing, especially on a warm day. You can find excellent versions in local carinderias and restaurants throughout Quezon City.

For a taste of something sweet and satisfying, Halo-Halo is essential. This popular Filipino dessert is a delightful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s a perfect treat to cool down with after a day of exploring. Many restaurants and street vendors offer their own unique take on this beloved dessert.

Don't leave without sampling Lechon, a whole roasted pig with incredibly crispy skin and succulent meat. While often a centerpiece for celebrations, you can find restaurants serving Lechon portions daily. Its rich flavor and satisfying crunch make it a true Filipino delicacy that you should experience.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Quezon City

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals, a polite demeanor and a smile go a long way. It’s customary to show respect to elders, and using terms like "po" and "opo" (yes, respectfully) is appreciated. While generally safe, it’s always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas.

Keep your valuables secure and be mindful of pickpockets in busy markets or public transport. For emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911. It’s also a good idea to have the contact numbers of your hotel and any local friends or contacts readily available. Walking in well-lit areas at night is advisable.

For navigating the city and staying connected, several apps are highly recommended. Ride-sharing apps like Grab are essential for convenient and relatively affordable transportation. Navigation apps such as Google Maps are invaluable for finding your way around Quezon City's complex street network.

Other useful apps include those for food delivery, like GrabFood or Foodpanda, which can bring a wide variety of local dishes right to your hotel. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are widely used by Filipinos. Having these tools at your disposal will greatly enhance your travel experience.

- In 1 room, the socket where the aircon was plugged in was not working so the aircon was not working. They had to change the socket so the aircon would work - there was no microwave in the room as supposed to what was in the picture, looked like the kitchen was incomplete too - the other room smelled funky, like wet wood - the remote to the cable box wasn't in the room so we had to ask for one, it didn't have the lid at the back - there were stains on the linens and on the sofa - there was only 1 trash can which was in the bathroom. There should've been 1 in the kitchen for meal-related trash - the slippers were very thin and costs 50 pesos each

We got the Studio Suite and it was a great price for the size of the room. Location of the hotel is good since there are restaurants and cafes nearby other than the ones in the building. I don't recommend getting the breakfast together with your room since it's just plated and limited. Waitstaff needs more training to be more service-oriented, courteous and be more mindful of the guests. Before you go there, make sure that you're clothes are already ironed. Requesting for a flat iron was so much hassle since there were only 3 available for the entire hotel. We have to follow up a few times just to get it. Overall, our stay was just okay. Nothing too extraordinary about it.

No chair, I requested, they said no available, the floor is messy, bed sheets not cleaned as white, they even charged me 500php for they said blood stain. but When they showed me the video ,its not even red as blood stain, its dark white as if body fluids or wet stain. Very disappointed with my stay at this Hotel. I'm a regular guest but this time I am very much disappointed. 0 raring for now

Their suite room is worth it for it's price. This is perfect for a get-together celebration with big group like with friends or family. Can accommodate 7-9 persons. The bed's capacity is for 4 persons. The room is clean and comfy.

AC unit can be a bit bothersome, as they would have old units installed. And luckily, we got those. We had a good night sleep still, with slight inconvenience due to Warm AC temp. Can't be adjusted even after maintenance came in.

Hotel looks good however the room is dirty. I’m not satisfied with the stay. The trays are dirty. They to have more training on how to handle cleanliness.

If rate for the room, I'll rate 9.7 out of 10 considering it is new and looks like a bachelor's pad. For food and hotel services are all good.
