Your Travel Guide to Puerto Galera as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Puerto Galera from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Puerto Galera from Metro Manila is a popular choice for many Filipinos seeking a quick beach escape. The most common route involves taking a bus from terminals like Buendia or Cubao to Batangas Port. These bus rides typically take around 2 to 3 hours, with fares ranging from PHP 300 to PHP 500, depending on the bus company and type of service. From Batangas Port, you'll board a ferry or a fast boat to Puerto Galera. The sea journey usually lasts between 1 to 2 hours, with ticket prices varying from PHP 500 to PHP 700.

For travelers coming from other major Philippine cities, the first step is usually to reach Manila, either by book flight tickets to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) or by other land and sea transport. Once in Manila, you can follow the bus-to-ferry route described above. Some travelers might consider flying into San Jose Airport in Mindoro Occidental and then taking a land transfer to Puerto Galera, but this is generally a longer and more complex journey compared to the direct Batangas route.

Driving your own vehicle is also an option, offering more flexibility. The drive from Metro Manila to Batangas Port takes approximately 2 to 3 hours, depending on traffic conditions. You will need to factor in toll fees, which can add up. Once you reach Batangas Port, you can usually bring your car aboard a roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ferry, though this option might be more expensive and time-consuming than passenger ferries. Regardless of your starting point, planning your journey in advance will ensure a smoother trip to this beautiful destination.

Best Time to Visit Puerto Galera

Puerto Galera experiences a tropical climate, with distinct wet and dry seasons that influence the best times to visit. The dry season, generally from November to May, is considered the peak tourist period. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, calmer seas, and lower humidity, making it ideal for beach activities, swimming, snorkeling, and diving. The months of December to February are particularly pleasant, with cooler temperatures and minimal rainfall, though they also tend to be the busiest and most expensive.

The wet season runs from June to October, characterized by increased rainfall and occasional typhoons. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, outdoor activities can be disrupted by bad weather. However, even during the rainy season, there are often periods of sunshine, and the lush greenery of the island is at its most vibrant. For budget-conscious travelers or those who prefer a quieter atmosphere, the shoulder months of November and May can offer a good balance of favorable weather and fewer crowds.

For those craving something hearty, Adobo remains a beloved classic. While variations exist across the Philippines, Puerto Galera’s local eateries often serve a delicious rendition of chicken or pork adobo, simmered in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. Its savory and slightly tangy profile is a comforting taste of home for many Filipinos and a flavorful introduction for foreign visitors. You can find this dish in many local carinderias and restaurants.

Don't leave Puerto Galera without trying some fresh Buko (young coconut) juice or Buko pie. The refreshing coconut water is perfect for hydration, and the sweet, creamy Buko pie is a delightful dessert. Many roadside stalls and local bakeries offer these treats, providing a sweet and satisfying end to a meal or a perfect snack while exploring the town. These local delicacies offer a true taste of the Philippines.

I only stayed 1 night, but this hotel is a disaster . Barely any running water, no toilet paper or soap or shampoo. Blood stains on pillow and sheet. No dead bolt on door . But the staff were decent and the food was good in their restaurant.

Do not stay at White Beach Resort or White Beach Bar & Restaurant. Rooms are old, dirty and no room service. You'll be lucky if they give you 2 toilet rolls or if they provide you an extra towel. It just seemed like the owner of the hotel does not care how the rooms are being maintained. Terrible stink in the bathroom due to very bad and uncleaned drainage. Our room did not have hot shower and did not have a rack, ledge, table or any place to put your toiletries. No shower curtains, no hooks. Faucet and showers are old and dirty - water smells and tastes like rust. We only had one duplex socket for the TV & electric fan - had to buy an extensions cord to plug-in our phones.

The room was not clean at all. No amenity, no service. Good point is that there was an air conditioner and hot water. There were tiny insects and mosquitoes in the room.

A very good located hotel right in the middle of everything white beach has to offer.. And right on the beach.. Only a few bad things to note;..'the electrics were hanging out of walls.. The room only had 1 bulb and 4 fittings.. The shower only dribbled, the sink did,nt work.. The tv did,nt work, the air con had a 1inch gap all around it so we could see outside, the toilet was not attatched, there was a funny smell which was the stained mattress, and the room was only cleaned after a week n half. Other than that the staff were all happy and smiling, and all spoke english. Considering we paid for the best beach facing room it was a lovely location.

This is very basic. While the sheets were clean, the bedding, including pillows, were sodden with the sweat and grime of a thousand Filipinos who came to get away from the grind. One is not going to catch any disease here, but if your surroundings have anything to do with your ability to relax and enjoy your vacation, don't plan to spend anything but sleep time in your room. It seems popular with groups. And these groups have little concern for the comfort of other vacationers. So, bathing suits hang to dry everywhere, including across the stairs to the rooms (n.b. if you are taller than 5'1"!); screaming and yelling is a part of every group movement, no matter what time of the day, night or early morning; and just because the there is a table outside each room, don't assume that the one outside your room is reserved for you, and won't be used for a midnight conversation by other guests! The beach is crowded and boisterous, though not polluted. Food is not bad along the beach. Many possibilties to get away, but note that the price quoted leaves out lots of essentials, so count on doubling the advertised price for a trip, on land or sea, away from the beach.

After checking in (well after check-in time) my friend and I noticed that we did not have toilet paper or towels in the bathroom. We requested these items and decided to leave to grab a late lunch. Upon our return we hoped to have toilet paper and towels...but we did not. It took a few more hours and several more requests to receive the items. Soon after we were able to use the toilet, we realized that it was broken not clogged (we know not to flush toilet paper). They said they fixed the toilet, but it was not fixed at all. The toilet was running loudly all night. While the bedding seemed clean, nothing else in the hotel did. The cups provided were dirty, the bathroom was obviously not cleaned and there were cobwebs all over the ceiling. After one night of discomfort, my friend and I decided it was worth it to lose out on what we paid and we found different accommodation. Being so close to the beach is not worth the horrible condition and upkeep of this hotel.

The ferry from Batangas dropped us off at a pier with a free van shuttle to White Beach. This shuttle dropped us off right at the front door of the hotel, so the location is very convenient. The room was air conditioned, but very basic. We had to ask for towels and soap. They had wifi, but it only worked in the common area/dining room. The restaurant was pricey compared to other options on White Beach, but they did take MC/VISA if you spent at least 1500 PHP, which is on the high end of what meals cost there for a group of 4 people. The hot water in the shower was not working.

by far the worst experience ever. The hotels.com shows that is has wifi, private balcony, plasma tv, shower, breakfast and many more. DOES NOT HAVE THEM AT ALL. No check in desk or anyone to talk to. The room was hot, the lights didn't work. And you only get 1 towel

Given that this hotel is on white beach, think it be nicer... After check in which never asked for ID find rooms to be outdated, old small TV walls peeling and bathroom shower had no strong pressure. There was water heater from which didn't shutoff and water always hot. Stayed 2 nites where they never cleaned room or gave us new towels, I will Never go back to this hotel there's many around which better and newer. Overall hotel is 1 out of 10......

Got hotel fr expedia 3d2n 3double beds for 6pax. But the receptionist said our reservation was not coordinated with them, they don't have such room available for us till next day. Had to downgrade our room with no refund on 1st night, 2nd night had to stay on the same room bec the correct family room offered had defective aircon with muffler like sound. The rooms and CR are not clean and very outdated, can't even provide shampoo, no cleaning of room, no changing of towels, no extra soap given for next day. The receptionist said Expedia offered a non available room!!!! And they cant make any refund for that!!!
